Evolving My Undead Legion In A Game-Like World

Chapter 976: Plans

Chapter 976: Plans

Michael slowly steadied his breathing while Wisdom continued clinging proudly to the back of his neck.

The owl clearly had no understanding of how absurd what it had just done was.

Michael, however, understood perfectly.

Michael reached up and grabbed the now much larger owl before pulling it in front of him.

Wisdom puffed its chest out proudly.

"Wisdom strong now."

"Yes," Michael admitted honestly. "Very strong."

The floating feathers behind the owl shifted slightly as if reacting emotionally. Tiny cracks appeared in the air around them before healing instantly.

Hmm, seems like it still needs time to control its powers.

That much was quite understandable. After all, it had jumped an entire major rank.

This was also not the result Michael had expected.

Originally, he had estimated that merging all the materials with Wisdom would at best push it into the Extraordinary rank with a one-star rating.

If things went especially well, then maybe two stars.

But three stars?

And not only that, but directly reaching the peak of Rank 2 immediately after evolving?

Evolution also did not need to be direct. Just like his High Drake, the moment something fundamental about them changed positively it counted as an evolution.

Regardless, the current outcome genuinely exceeded Michael’s expectations.

Of course this was good news, but at the same time it also created another problem.

Initially, Michael’s plan had been that after Wisdom completed its race evolution, he would evolve it one more time and use that second evolution to push it fully into Rank 3.

Even if Wisdom had only reached one-star Extraordinary rank, Michael was confident the level increase from the merge alone would have pushed it past Level 40.

So in Michael’s calculations, one more evolution afterward should have been enough to smoothly complete the breakthrough into Rank 3.

But all those calculations had collapsed completely the moment Wisdom’s race rating reached three stars, because now the next evolution was Epic-grade.

Michael’s expression became slightly pained.

This situation was actually very similar to Jester’s.

Jester had also reached the threshold where its next evolution would step into the Epic category to advance to Rank 3.

Epic-grade evolutions were also absurdly expensive.

Michael simply did not have enough.

Of course, the situation was not truly hopeless.

Thanks to his current daily Evolution Point income, he was already receiving more than four thousand points every single day from his undead legion.

In three more days, the accumulated amount would cross the threshold needed for an Epic-grade evolution.

Fortunately, Wisdom’s situation was not urgent.

Beside him, Wisdom tilted its head slightly after noticing Michael staring at it.

"Master sad?"

Michael shook his head.

"No. Just poor."

Wisdom blinked in confusion.

"Don’t overload your brain with matters like this. Come, show master how fast you are so I can copy, cough, examine your abilities."

Soon the Everlong Forest once again cried in pain.

Meanwhile, Michael in Aurora was currently meditating to achieve a better understanding of his law.

After all, though levelling up was nice, at Rank 3 it acted more like a qualification to break through to the next rank. Why this qualification mattered to awakeners was because as long as they could fulfil their task, they could achieve an easier breakthrough compared to ordinary supernaturals while still earning some rewards.

In actuality, levelling up did not give an instant boost to one’s power. The only levelling up that counted starting from Rank 3 was Origin’s acknowledgment of one’s comprehension of their law at their current stage. The boost gained from this understanding of the universe was also somewhat more pronounced than what ordinary supernaturals received.

If Michael could not level up through experience points, he could do so through comprehending his law. This way, by the time his task came, if another requirement to level up arose, he would already have a head start and could afford to focus more on the other requirements.

This was also another advantage awakeners who levelled up through law comprehension had over those who focused on experience points.

It could not be said that one was better than the other, as both had their pros and cons.

After all, comprehending one’s law took a significant amount of time even for a genius like Rynne, Teacher Brian, or his former classmate Brian. For some it might be better to spend a couple of years reaching max level, learn one’s requirements for the next rank, and focus on that instead.

[A/N: Am I really that bad at names, guys?]

After another few minutes of meditation, Michael finally came out of the state with a sigh.

"Even if I reach max level tomorrow, fully comprehending my law at Rank 3 will keep me in this stage for a while."

At that thought, the slight recklessness that had been in Michael’s heart since levelling up started to fade somewhat.

Standing up from his meditative pose, Michael made his way up to the surface from underground. Right now he was in one of the two-seater dorms, similar to Rynne’s apartment.

After being inspired by Rynne, Michael couldn’t help but wonder if he could score some benefits for himself even without being the disciple of a demigod.

With nothing to lose, he had gone to see the instructor in charge of allocating dorms and stated his purpose. To his surprise, it had gone fairly well.

It was at that point Michael realized that maybe he was actually a second-generation person without knowing it.

Michael had ended his meditative session not because he couldn’t continue, but because he had decided to check in with Director Lin for updates. He knew they would conduct some investigation first, so he wanted to gauge how far along they were and get a sense of when the academy and Federation would make their move.

However, he had only just returned to the surface when he sensed a presence in front of his door.

A familiar one.

Michael immediately appeared at his door, and before the person could knock it was already open.

"Good day, Teacher Brian."
