Chapter 977: Brian
Chapter 977: Brian
Teacher Brian didn’t look surprised that the door had opened before he knocked.
"Good day," he replied with a faint smile.
Michael stepped aside.
"Please come in."
Teacher Brian entered calmly while his gaze swept briefly across the apartment. After closing the door behind them, Michael led Brian toward the sofa area.
"Please sit."
Teacher Brian nodded and took a seat leisurely.
Michael walked toward a nearby dispenser before pausing slightly.
"Would you like some water, Teacher Brian?"
Brian waved his hand lightly.
"No need," he said with a smile. "I only came to talk with you for a bit."
Hearing that, Michael nodded calmly and sat opposite him.
Truthfully, he already had a rough idea why Brian was here.
It probably had something to do with the information he had given Director Lin, or the connection they both felt between them. Most likely it was the latter.
Still, Michael did not rush the topic.
Instead, he leaned back slightly and casually asked,
"How did you find the apartment, Teacher Brian? I don’t remember telling you where I’d be staying."
Michael was quite curious about this. It had to be that Teacher Brian had used tracking magic or something along those lines, right?
"The academy instructor in charge of allocating dorms told me."
Michael’s mouth twitched slightly. Wasn’t that instructor being a little sloppy with their work?
Brian continued calmly,
"Of course, it was only after convincing them I was trustworthy that I even got your address."
At this, Michael felt a little better.
After the brief exchange, the apartment became quiet for a moment.
Then Michael finally asked directly,
"So what did you want to talk about, Teacher Brian?"
The old man’s expression gradually became more serious.
He took a slow breath before looking directly at Michael.
"Be honest with me for a moment."
Michael’s eyes narrowed slightly.
Teacher Brian continued quietly,
"Have you already stepped into the King rank?"
King rank. Rank 3 for awakeners.
Michael stared at him for two seconds before nodding honestly.
"Yes."
Teacher Brian closed his eyes briefly.
When he opened them again, there was no shock inside. Only something closer to awe.
As though he had already known the answer beforehand and merely came to confirm it personally.
"...Unbelievable."
He shook his head softly.
"You awakened two years later than the others, yet you still reached this stage so fast."
Michael stayed silent.
Teacher Brian looked at him carefully before speaking again.
"You should be proud of yourself. Truly."
Then his tone shifted slightly.
"But remember this, Michael. The path toward supreme power is still very long."
"Haste can create waste."
"Sometimes the fastest geniuses are also the ones who collapse the earliest."
"What matters at the end of the day is the final result, not who runs ahead temporarily."
Hearing those words, Michael seemed to understand something and gave a sincere nod.
"...Thank you."
Teacher Brian waved it off casually.
"There’s no need."
Then his gaze sharpened slightly.
"Now let’s talk about the more important matter."
Michael straightened faintly.
Without waiting for him to reply, Teacher Brian asked quietly,
"Michael... are you also one of Aurora’s candidates to become the next Realm Master?"
Hearing that question, Michael immediately understood something.
Teacher Brian knew.
Or at least, he knew the reason behind the strange connection both of them felt toward each other.
Michael slowly nodded.
"I am."
Teacher Brian’s expression immediately grew grave.
For a few seconds, the old man remained silent before speaking again.
"Then you should already know the benefits tied to that title."
Michael nodded faintly.
"A Realm Master candidate receives amplification from the realm itself. The most obvious is roughly a two hundred percent increase in law power. And if the candidate is ultimately acknowledged by the realm..."
Brian’s voice lowered slightly.
"They can ascend directly into godhood."
Michael was not particularly shocked by this information.
He had already guessed most of it.
But then Teacher Brian’s expression suddenly darkened.
"However..."
Michael’s eyes narrowed slightly.
Teacher Brian stared directly at him.
"Never let anyone know you are a candidate."
His tone had completely changed.
It was no longer advice.
It sounded more like a warning carved in blood. This much was obvious as killing intent immediately radiated from the old man in front of him. Even though it was not directed at him, Michael felt the rage within it.
"If one day you feel this same connection toward another person again..."
A terrifying pressure suddenly leaked faintly from Brian’s body.
"If you can kill them, kill them."
"If you cannot..."
"Run."
Michael’s pupils constricted slightly.
The sudden killing intent in Teacher Brian’s voice genuinely startled him.
Teacher Brian slowly closed his eyes briefly before continuing.
"You are not the only candidate. Realm Master candidates are natural enemies."
"The closer one gets to becoming the true Realm Master, the stronger the instinct becomes."
Michael’s expression slowly turned serious.
"So the connection we feel..."
"...Is recognition," Brian answered quietly.
"Recognition between competitors chosen by the same world."
The apartment suddenly felt far colder than before.
Michael remained silent for several seconds before finally speaking.
"But do we really need to become enemies?"
Teacher Brian looked at him quietly.
Michael continued calmly,
"Can’t all the candidates simply ignore each other until the realm itself finally chooses someone?"
Hearing that, Brian slowly shook his head.
Though the old man smiled faintly, there was no amusement in his eyes.
"You are powerful, Michael. Perhaps even stronger than me already."
"But..."
"You still haven’t lived long enough to understand people."
Michael frowned slightly.
Teacher Brian leaned back into the sofa slowly.
"Do you know you are not the first Realm Master candidate I’ve met?"
Michael’s eyes narrowed immediately.
Brian’s gaze became distant.
"The first one I encountered was just three days ago."
Michael continued listening silently.
"He’s already dead."
Michael’s expression changed slightly.
Teacher Brian looked directly at him.
"I killed him."
