Chapter 522 522: Asasiel Island [IV]
Chapter 522 522: Asasiel Island [IV]
"Well…" Rain let out a deep breath with a sigh of her own. "That's very ominous… but it wasn't directed to us."
Azel bent over and looked down below that inscription, squinting in the fading light.
There was still more text carved into the stone base.
"Yes, even you Hero and Saintess… Your souls will be very nutritional."
Azel took a deep breath and Rain's breath hitched as the words sank in. The enemy was aware that they were going to sneak in… They'd known from the start.
This whole thing was a trap within a trap.
'Well it doesn't really matter.' He thought, though his jaw tightened slightly.
They needed to leave here after getting more information about what was really happening. The only problem was where to get that information from.
The half-demons that were talking around here were saying some incomprehensible jibberish mixed with their words and holding an actual conversation wouldn't work as it would only stress him out even more trying to decipher their broken language.
'I'm wondering if we can get some useful information here from these dumbasses…' He scanned the settlement carefully, noting guard positions. 'I'm sure going deeper into this place, there will be magic sensors to detect intruders.'
'Well, I can always read their memories.' Rain suggested through their mental link and he gave her a look of surprise.
'What kind of Saintess can read minds…?'
'Memory extraction. If you have high mental fortitude, you're immune but these demons have pathetically low fortitude.'
She scanned the demons milling around.
'If we isolate one of the smarter ones, I can get the one leading the strike team. The one coordinating the beam attacks.'
She had noticed it during the explosion… There was a demon leader giving orders, significantly more intelligent than the fodder.
'If it's a distraction you need… I'll give it to you.' He thought. 'Retrieve the information and send holy magic into the sky when done. I have a camp location in mind.'
Gwendolyn had gone ahead using Shadow Jump to scout… The sun was beginning to set over the island.
'You better not die out there…' She relayed to him. 'If you die then you won't get the chance to feel my amazing hands.'
His expression didn't change.
'If-If you don't die then I'll use my hands AND my mouth…' She blurted out before she could stop herself.
He gave her a smile as he placed his hand on her head gently, running his fingers through her blonde hair.
It was soft and still damp from the ocean but she didn't pull away.
'I told this to my kids but you don't need to worry about me…' He thought. 'I'm strong. I'll thin out this army while providing your distraction.'
'Okay… and get your hand off my head.' She said while pushing his hand away, though her face was red.
Azel broke free and ran toward the main gate. He punched a clean hole through the guard's chest before the demon could react, then moved into the shadows.
The half demons were instantly riled… They scrambled and shouted, rushing toward the sea.
'These people are really dumb…' Rain thought while using her illusion to hide near the settlement center.
She half-expected some would search the area but they didn't. Their gazes were entirely focused on where Azel had gone which meant she needed to do her part quickly.
…
Azel flew over the sea near the burning wreckage as he summoned his bone daggers from the Winter Region.
They had been enhanced by Aurum's Hand, and now he wreathed them in his destruction affinity. Dark purple energy crackled along the blades like living lightning.
His destruction affinity had gotten significantly stronger after the Underworld but he hadn't checked the full extent yet.
'I also need to sort out that reward screen.' He thought.
The system had new rewards waiting. Right now though, several demons were flying toward him in attack formation.
Half-demons and full demons, their leathery wings spread wide. A concentrated beam of demonic energy came forward, tearing through the air directly at him.
He covered his dagger with destruction magic and slashed through the beam effortlessly. The attack split apart and the two halves crashed into the wreckage behind him, causing more explosions then he moved forward with an explosive burst of speed.
The first demon came at him with claws extended. He swung his leg upward and covered it with destruction energy.
His shin connected with the demon's jaw and there was a sickening crunch as bone shattered. The creature's head didn't just break… it disintegrated from the point of impact, flesh and skull turning to golden particles that scattered in the wind.
The headless body tumbled into the water below and blood mist hung in the air where the head had been.
He threw his dagger, covering it with the same destructive magic. It spun through the air like a sawblade and tore through the first demon's chest, then the second's wing, then straight through the third's torso.
Each impact left gaping holes that leaked black blood before the bodies dropped. The weapon returned to his hand with a wet sound.
A demon dove at him from above with a screech. His holy wings extended and he caught it by both arms.
The demon struggled for half a second before he ripped its arms clean off at the shoulders with a spray of arterial blood. It screamed as it fell, armless and dying.
Another came from the side with talons aimed at his throat.
He deflected the strike with his dagger and carved upward through its chest cavity. His blade split sternum and ribs like they were paper.
The demon's torso opened like a grotesque flower, organs spilling out, and it was dead before it hit the water.
Blood sprayed across his face but before it could stick, the liquid simply ceased to exist, turning into harmless golden freckles that dispersed.
He glanced at the shoreline as he defended a vicious talon strike from another attacking demon and carved through its chest in one smooth motion.
There was a lone demon standing on the shoreline with its eyes wide open and staring directly at him with unusual intelligence... However he wasn't interested in that one yet.
A demon charged a powerful strike directly in front of him, demonic energy building in its hands. His holy wings shot forward and caught the creature at both sides of its torso. The appendages turned into crushing vises that dug into flesh.
He pulled in opposite directions and the demon came apart at the waist with a wet tearing sound.
The upper half hit the water separately from the lower half, intestines trailing between them, then another demon came toward him, followed by several more in a coordinated attack.
His eyes glowed bright red as he shot out the elven royal beam from both eyes simultaneously. The twin lances of concentrated magic punched through demon flesh like hot wire through butter and bodies fell in pieces to the ground.
…
Rain walked slowly toward the demon captain still on the ground, watching the battle.
"You, what are you doing here?" He turned to face her suspiciously. "Aren't you supposed to be attacking with the others?"
Rain did not reply.
Fia did… The phoenix soared off her head and burst out of the illusion in blue flames before spinning and releasing azure fire at the demon.
Before the flames hit, Rain made a quick sign with her hands, forming them into a circle.
"Extract." She muttered.
An orb of pure white light appeared in her hands, pulsing with stolen memories, while Fia's flames burned the demon thoroughly, turning him to ash in less than a minute then she looked toward where Azel had been, only to find herself in a princess carry without noticing the transition.
"Done?" He asked and she nodded meekly.
Fia landed on his head and shadows wrapped around them as they warped away through the Shadow Realm.
He had killed the remaining demons and more were coming.
When Rain opened her eyes, she found herself staring at his face or rather the massive mountain behind it.
They were high up now in an incredibly good clearing. She got off and looked around with wonder.
"This is where we'll be sleeping tonight?" She asked, finding it hard to believe this place was unoccupied.
It was too beautiful… The clearing was surrounded by tall pines and the soft grass felt amazing beneath her feet and a small stream bubbled nearby.
"Yes." He replied. "Demons aren't interested in mountains. Now sort through those memories while I set up our tent… We'll be sleeping here tonight, and these memories will tell us if we attack tomorrow or find another way out."
She nodded and sat on the soft grass. The illusion magic faded while Azel brought out tenting supplies from his spatial inventory.
He worked efficiently, clearing the area of rocks and pine cones then he laid out the waterproof ground cloth, making sure it was taut. The tent poles clicked together with ease.
The canvas went up smoothly, and he secured each corner with stakes driven deep. He tested the tension, making adjustments until everything was perfect.
"Did I look good as a half-demon?" She asked suddenly.
"You were ugly, but all of them are." He said bluntly while adjusting a tent rope and she felt the urge to hit him with the orb.
However he continued.
"I still thought you were cute as usual though."
Rain didn't reply but her face turned perfectly red. After a moment, she looked down at the glowing orb.
'Read.' She thought and her eyes began glowing with holy magic as she filtered through the stolen memories.
"Right, I only have one tent." He looked at her while rolling out sleeping bags inside. "Would you mind sharing?"
She bobbed her head in a nod, distracted by the extraction.
"I see… nice then." He said and looked at the phoenix on his head. "So you're Fia?"
He looked at the small bird more carefully. For now just a cute chick but it would soon become a legendary phoenix.
"Alright, I'll gather firewood while you work."
He disappeared into the treeline. Rain dove deeper into the demon captain's memories, filtering through battle plans and troop movements, searching for anything useful about—
Her face suddenly turned bright red and her eyes widened.
'Oh goddess, why.'
The memory she'd just accessed was of the demon captain having extremely enthusiastic sex with another demon.
A female demon that was genuinely one of the ugliest creatures Rain had ever seen. She had three eyes, scales in random patches, and tusks.
And the captain was REALLY into it.
'I did NOT need to see that.' She thought while quickly skipping past that memory. 'Why is that even stored in the same section as battle plans?! That's not how memory organization works!'
She could feel her eye twitching.
'Apparently demons think about sex and war with equal priority… Fantastic, just fantastic.'
She aggressively filtered past several more intimate memories… seriously, this demon got around, before finally finding the actual useful information.
…
Rain's face paled as she dropped the orb, letting it shatter after she'd extracted everything she needed.
Well, her face had been red from the unwanted demon pornography, but now it was pale from what she'd learned about tomorrow.
'No…' She thought and turned around only for the paleness to be wiped off her face as she saw Azel laying on the grass with one leg over the other, the skies were dark too… and she could see stars glimmering in them.
A small fire crackled nearby… He must have built it while she was reading.
"Hey, you're finally done? How was it?" He asked and she looked at his chest, for some reason, it looked extra inviting today.
"Hey, can I lay on your chest?" She asked while crawling over to him.
"Sure." He said and Rain settled with her face on his chest, some of her hair spreading over his face too. "So the memories…?"
"This place is meant to be a distraction, the barrier that we're inside is unbreakable until we kill every last one of the Demon Lord's army in this place including the Demon Kings. Tomorrow, they are planning to raze the Capital to the ground too." She said, "The whole Demon Lord's army…"
Azel gritted his teeth but calmed down.
"I guess that settles it. We will kill all of them tomorrow and rush back." He said, he wanted to get back as soon as possible… he had a family to protect after all.
"Okay, I hope we make it." She pushed more of her face into his chest. "Hey Az, I can call you that right?"
"Sure…"
"Sorry for treating you rudely ever since we met…" She said softly, her voice barely above a whisper. "I've been a complete jerk to you for no good reason."
"But I'll tell you why now. I've told some of the other girls too, and they understood."
"That you're a regressor?" Azel raised an eyebrow calmly, showing no surprise at all.
Sylvia had told him during their flight to Elun'varis weeks ago.
"H-how did you know?"
"Sylvia told me… being a regressor means you're actually older than you look, right? Lived a whole other life before this one."
"Yes, far older than you." She said quietly. "The Demon Lord didn't appear in the original timeline until two years later, so I think I've completely messed up the timeline with my presence and actions."
She paused and took a breath to steady herself.
"But I prefer it like that… now that bastard Reinhardt won't be able to mess anything up. I also need to tell you something else important…"
Her voice got quieter.
"In my last life, I was in love with Reinhardt along with several of the other girls."
He pretended to be surprised.
"With Reinhardt?" He raised an eyebrow and she let out a bitter chuckle.
"Yes… he did a lot of terrible things. I can't even remember why we were all so obsessed with him." She said somberly. "But after we defeated the Demon Lord, he manipulated the church and had me burned alive at a stake."
Azel patted her head gently, not sure what else to say.
"I've gotten over that trauma though…" She continued. "But what I've been trying to hide from you are my growing feelings for you."
Her blue eyes lifted to his face and looked directly into his crimson ones.
"That's why I haven't gotten together with any girl… or man or whatever—"
Then her hand hit his chest.
"Stop making me sound cheesy…"
"I didn't even do anything." He let out a small sigh and her lips trembled.
"Do you like me too?" She asked, though that was probably a dumb question at this point. Why would he, after everything she had done to him?
"Yes I do…" He said sincerely. "You're a genuinely good person, no matter how haughty or prickly you act sometimes."
Her face reddened intensely and Rain shifted on his body, making sure she straddled him properly with her legs on either side.
"Uh, Rain?"
"I want you to make me one of your wives." She said firmly.
"Sure… but why are you suddenly on top of me?"
"What?" Her voice rose slightly. "You were flashing your dick right in my face earlier in the forest… What did you think would happen? You're going to take my first time in this world tonight."
She honestly missed the physical feeling of sex though she would absolutely never admit that out loud to anyone.
Like Sylvia used to tell her bluntly in the past, she was a very horny woman deep down and though she had managed to restrain herself for a long time… being alone in the mountains with someone she genuinely loved seemed like the perfect moment.
"B-but… you're not going in my ass or tying me up or using your full strength to ram into me, because it hurts." She said while deliberately not looking at his eyes while her face burned. "I shouldn't be talking about other experiences while I'm with you like this but I'd prefer if you don't try and kill me during… Why do you look so smug right now?"
"It's fulfilling to see the normally haughty Rain acting so innocently flustered." He simply said and Rain immediately took off her shirt in response.
Her breasts bounced upward as she freed them and then she pressed them directly into his face, completely smothering him with soft flesh.
"This is for looking at those demon statue breasts earlier!" She said indignantly. "I can't believe that you had me standing right next to you and you're still looking at another woman's breasts like that!"
"Again… you're completely misunderstanding the situation." He said in a muffled voice and managed to remove her breasts from his face.
But before she could protest, he pulled her down and they began kissing deeply.
Gwendolyn watched them from a respectful distance with a victorious sigh of satisfaction.
'Now after he's done with her… he'll finally do the same with me.' She thought contentedly. 'It's a win-win situation for the both of us.'
She returned to Azel's soul to give them privacy.
A small price to pay for salvation, she supposed.
