Chapter 529: Civil Unrest
Chapter 529: Civil Unrest
"What the hell is happening?! What do you mean you don't know?! I'm not paying you bastards to slack off! Find out what's currently happening at the capital!"
"Dammit! How were they able to hide this?!"
Benny angrily hung up the call after giving a tirade of scolding to his subordinates.
"What are you even getting angry about? It's not like this would even affect you at all" Monk casually said after seeing Benny seething with anger.
"Shut up! My stock investments are currently losing money because of this stupid civil unrest!" Benny yelled and the thought of his stocks taking a downward dip is giving him a headache!
"Then pull out!"
"It's too late, I can only pray that the market would quickly bounce back after this"
'Huh? Even if you have taken significant losses, Isn't pulling out the most sensible thing to do at this point?' Monk thought in confusion. He didn't know much about the stock market, but he's at least sensible enough to know that it's better to take a small loss than to lose it forever.
"But is it possible that what happened that day was the reason behind this?" Genesis asked while generously sipping a cup of coffee and leaning against the sofa.
"It could have been, since that bastard was the one who was leading the reinforcements that night. Unfortunately, everyone was caught off guard by his recent actions and now the nation is on the verge of civil war!"
Bam!
Frustrated, Benny angrily kicked the sofa that Genesis was on, causing him to receive a sharp glare from him.
During the night of their escape, the three of them were already prepared that the army will be able to track them down since they only needed to sniff around and they'll eventually find out where they are hiding, but they didn't expect that nothing would happen even after a day had passed, but what certainly caught them off guard was the night of the second day!
The army who was supposed to be looking for them suddenly mutinied and started arresting government officials, indiscriminately!
Even the President of the Nation was placed under house arrest!
And now the three men are watching the result of their "hard work" that could have been one of the major causes that lit the fuse of rebellion in the nation!
"It seems this had been planned for a very long time and very secretly at that since none of my informants even managed to catch wind of it" Benny said, his expression filled with a looming seriousness and frustration.
"Maybe they just sucks?" Uncertain, Monk replied with a shrug.
"Shut up, if they want to. They can even find out what color of underwear you wear for every specific day. Want to try it?" Benny rebuked him with a smirk on his face.
Monk's expression immediately became clouded as he knew that it wasn't impossible since he also has its own network of informants that are very capable.
Genesis shook his head and said, "Enough, but it seems our reason for coming here is already over since someone had graciously did it for us"
"When will you leave then?" Benny asked while sorting out the products that were delivered earlier.
"The day after tomorrow,"
"Where are you going? You didn't forget that the country is currently under martial law, right?" Benny said when Genesis suddenly jumped over the counter and started making his way outside.
With his back turned towards them, Genesis waved his hand and said, "I know, I'm just gonna walk around the neighborhood and check some places. After all, it has been years since the last time I came here, so I at least want to see the changes during those years"
Cling! Cling!
"Changes? Yeah, a lot has changed since then" Benny murmured to himself, suddenly reminiscing the times from long ago. Though it only lasted for a moment before he immediately turned his attention to Monk and said, "What about you? Are you gonna stay at my shop the whole day?"
"Yeah, I'm gonna sleep all day. Wake me up when it's lunch time, okay?" Monk replied as he got up and made his way at the back.
"Damn freeloaders" Benny cursed while glaring at him, then he turned his attention to the news being broadcasted on the television with worry.
[A report just came that another senator, Senator Rostova who had long been rumored of embezzling government funds has been killed by the military. Making her the 57th senator that was arrested and was killed for resisting the army, making her the 11th senator to die during this time of unrest! What will be the future of this nation after these events?
Will our beloved Motherland remain a nation of Democracy or a nation ruled by Stratocracy?]
"Damn, I didn't expect I'd get to live to see this country slowly fall" Benny mumbled.
"Though with how things had been going lately, I think this nation needs this for a better tommorow"
Hours earlier before the current events, the military convoy led by the colonel had long returned to their base.
"Colonel Ivanov, are you sure about this? There is no going back after this colonel"
Colonel Ivanov looked at the old general before him and replied with a voice of conviction, "This is the best time to strike, General. While those people are occupied by their fears that they might get assassinated because of the appearance of those three assassins, so we should take this opportunity to get rid of them.
This is the most opportune time to get rid of these pesky "tumors" that had been sucking the Motherland dry!"
"I'm tired..I'm tired seeing our comrades dying because of their stupid games! It's time for us to flip the board and f*cking do something!"
The old general released a sigh after seeing the determination in his eyes, and he said, "Alright, but we'll do this with a vote"
"I understand sir"
Soon after that, special agents were secretly dispatched all over the country and covertly met the recipients of the package and delivered it to them and waited as those people read the contents of the package.
"Finally, I've been waiting for this day"
"My beloved, finally this day has come. Revenge is within grasp"
"For a new tomorrow!"
Colonel Ivanov accompanied the old general in his office as both waited for the results of the voting.
There was only silence between them, no one bothered to talk after their earlier discussion. It's not because they were being awkward or shy with each other, but because they didn't really have anything to talk about and in addition, the old general was also busy with the paperworks piled up on his desk.
The old general looked up from his desk and suddenly said, "If you have nothing to do, mind helping me with these documents?"
Ivanov turned towards him, then to the piled up documents and said, "Will that be fine?"
"It's just normal documents. Besides, are you seriously asking me that at this point? I'm too old for this, I really need to retire soon"
Ivanov didn't say anything and just immediately started helping the old general sort out the documents in silence.
"You're really boring colonel"
"So I've heard"
Knock! Knock!
Two hours later, someone knocked at the door and it was obviously a coded knock with that short and long pause in between.
"Come in!"
A soldier carefully entered the office and slowly closed the door behind him and with a salute, he said, "General"
After saying that, he grabbed something under his uniform and pulled out an envelope and respectfully handed it towards the direction of the General.
"Take it, Ivanov. The future of this nation is now on you" the general said and urged the colonel to take the letter in his stead.
Colonel Ivanov stared deeply at the old general and answered him with a nod moments after.
He turned his attention back to the soldier before he grabbed the letter and ripped it open.
