Chapter 1392: 1391 Ah Kai has excessive internal heat
Gu Kai couldn’t help but frown.
Of course, he understood what Mo Xiuchen meant by “concern” in his words.
He thought angrily to himself, this schadenfreude guy better not fall into my hands one day.
In the living room, Wen Ran was answering a call. At the foyer, Mo Xiuchen and Gu Kai could hear her voice: “Xiaocha, the fact that you’re asking me means you still want to take care of Zhang Minghui. Do what your heart tells you. If you need any help, you can let me know…”
Seeing them come in, Wen Ran ended the call.
“Brother, what happened to your mouth?” It wasn’t that Wen Ran was particularly sharp-eyed, but Gu Kai’s injured lip was so obvious that it was noticeable to anyone who wasn’t severely shortsighted.
Hearing her question, Mo Xiuchen immediately burst into a laugh.
He strode over to Wen Ran and said meaningfully, “Ranran, Ah Kai is overheated, so his lip is cracked. Where are the little ones?”
Wen Ran glanced at Mo Xiuchen’s smile, her eyes flickering. Suddenly catching his meaning, she smiled knowingly.
Gu Kai shot Mo Xiuchen a glare and also asked, “Ranran, is Tongtong still here?”
“Mm, Yiyi hasn’t come to pick her up yet. Brother, didn’t you come back with Yiyi?”
Wen Ran maintained a radiant smile, her sparkling eyes fixed on Gu Kai’s injured lip. It seemed her brother had taken some liberties.
Gu Kai’s face darkened slightly. The mention of Bai Yiyi made his tone stiff. “She didn’t come back.”
“Brother, did you have a fight with Yiyi?” Wen Ran stepped forward two paces, tilting her head and squinting her eyes as if trying to glean some clues from Gu Kai’s handsome face.
Gu Kai let out a deep sigh, walked over to the sofa, and slumped into it gloomily. “She said she was leaving G City after the New Year and would leave Tongtong with me.”
Wen Ran blinked in surprise. Mo Xiuchen pulled her down onto the sofa next to him and asked, puzzled, “Brother, why does Yiyi want to leave G City? Is it because of her mother? If you don’t want her to leave, then talk to her properly. If you keep acting proud, you’re going to lose your sister-in-law.”
“Ranran is right.”
Mo Xiuchen draped his long arm over Wen Ran’s shoulder, his expression fully supportive of her.
Gu Kai frowned, “What is there to talk about with her? I really don’t know what’s going on in her head. Isn’t it enough that I’m not holding her accountable for what happened back then?”
“Enough for what?” Wen Ran feigned ignorance.
“Ah Kai, you really don’t understand women. Bai Yiyi doesn’t just want you to not hold her mother responsible; she wants to see you take a stand.”
Mo Xiuchen shook his head, openly mocking Gu Kai’s ineptitude in matters of the heart.
“And you think you understand women?” Gu Kai asked irritably. Suddenly, as if realizing something, his eyes narrowed. “By the way, the woman who was talking in the background during your call the other day, who was that? As soon as I asked, you hung up.”
“A secretary.”
Mo Xiuchen kept his reply brief.
“Then why did you hang up?”
“Ah Kai, stop trying to change the subject. We’re talking about you and Bai Yiyi. Back then, I hung up because I was watching the progress of that post.” Mo Xiuchen looked down at Wen Ran. “Ranran, don’t listen to Ah Kai’s nonsense.”
“I wasn’t!” Wen Ran chuckled.
Just as she finished speaking, her phone rang.
“It’s Yiyi calling. Brother, do you want to take it?” Wen Ran asked Gu Kai with a smile when she saw the caller ID.
Without thinking, Gu Kai grabbed the phone and answered it.
His silence made Bai Yiyi on the other end assume it was Wen Ran who had picked up. “Ranran, I’ll come back a bit later. Let Tongtong have dinner at your house. If she gets sleepy, let her sleep there for now.”
“Where are you?”
When Gu Kai heard Bai Yiyi’s words, his eyebrows immediately knit together, and he asked gloomily.
“Why is it you?” Bai Yiyi’s startled voice came through. After a brief pause, she answered, “I’m out dealing with something. Since you’re there, take Tongtong back to your place.”
“Where are you?”
Gu Kai insisted on knowing her whereabouts.
On the other end, Bai Yiyi sounded a bit irritated. “Where I am is none of your business. I’m hanging up now.”
“Bai—”
Gu Kai had just started to speak when the call was abruptly ended.
Anger flickered in his eyes, and his grip on the phone tightened slightly. Beside him, Wen Ran said softly, “Brother, Yiyi must be busy with something. Don’t be angry.”
Bai Yiyi had made the call from a shopping mall.
After taking a taxi and deciding not to go home, she ended up at the mall.
After hanging up, she wandered around aimlessly for a while but couldn’t calm her frustrated mood. When she finally reached the checkout counter with a shopping cart, she realized she had only bought meat.
She cursed under her breath in frustration, abandoned her selections, and left the store empty-handed.
Still distracted, she took the elevator to the first floor and walked out of the mall. Hearing someone call her from behind, Bai Yiyi turned to see Zhang Siming.
Carrying two bags, he quickly approached her and asked with concern, “Yiyi, in this snow, why are you wearing so little?”
Bai Yiyi’s eyes swept over the bags in his hands, and she replied indifferently, “It’s fine. I’m not cold.”
“Yiyi, did you drive here yourself?” Zhang Siming glanced toward the parking lot and asked gently.
Bai Yiyi’s eyes flickered. “No, I took a taxi.”
“Then let me drive you home. It’s hard to get a taxi in this snow, and it’s not safe either. My car’s over there.”
Hearing that she hadn’t driven, Zhang Siming felt a bit pleased inside but kept a warm smile on his face. Gesturing with a bag-laden hand, he pointed in the direction of the parking lot.
“No need. I’ll just call another taxi. It’s very convenient.”
“Yiyi, I happen to have something to discuss with you. Come on, I’ll take you home.” Zhang Siming spoke decisively and started walking first. Bai Yiyi frowned slightly, then reluctantly followed.
Walking slower, Zhang Siming deliberately waited for her so they could walk side by side. “That case is going to court soon…”
As they chatted, Bai Yiyi didn’t notice the Maybach approaching from afar on a nearby street. The man in the driver’s seat glanced through the window, and when he saw her walking with Zhang Siming, his eyes darkened with anger.
He stepped hard on the gas, and the Maybach sped off into the distance.
“Yiyi, where do you live?” After driving for a while, Zhang Siming finally asked for Bai Yiyi’s address.
Bai Yiyi hesitated briefly before giving him the address.
“Yiyi, that’s a villa complex. You live there?”
Having been in G City for a few months, Zhang Siming was familiar with the luxury of that villa district. Hearing that Bai Yiyi lived there, he widened his eyes in surprise, his mind instantly filled with countless thoughts.
Bai Yiyi caught the surprise and doubt in his expression, then replied calmly, “I’m just renting it. It’s quieter in the suburbs, and Tongtong likes it.”
“Yiyi, I didn’t mean anything by it. They say Madam Meng moved three times to find a good environment for her son. Choosing the right environment for Tongtong shows that you’re a great mom.” Zhang Siming smiled again, trying to smooth things over after hearing her explanation.
Bai Yiyi blinked, puzzled. “What else could you have meant? Did you think I was being kept as someone’s mistress?”
