Chapter 1397: 1396 Forever Love

Bai Yiyi placed Tongtong on the sofa, then lifted her gaze toward Gu Kai, who was walking over with Ziyi in his arms. His lips curved into a gentle arc, and under the soft indoor lighting, his refined and handsome features exuded an indescribable warmth.

Her chest tightened inexplicably, a surge of sourness welling up inside.

The thought of leaving and not returning wavered because of this man walking toward her.

Without her brain’s permission, she heard herself say, “I’ll come back before the fifth day.”

Hearing her words, Gu Kai, who was still two steps away from the sofa, paused slightly in his stride. A fleeting emotion flashed in his deep eyes—was it surprise, joy, or perhaps satisfaction with her response?

The curve of his lips deepened compared to before, and the smile spread beyond the corners of his mouth, lighting up his handsome features as he replied softly:

“Alright!”

Bai Yiyi felt a surge of emotions flooding her heart. Caught in Gu Kai’s warm smile, an unconscious smile also emerged on her delicate face.

In their gaze, it seemed as if their unspoken thoughts had become crystal clear to one another.

By evening, as Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran returned home together, the sight that greeted them was Gu Kai and Bai Yiyi playing games with four little ones, filled with lively joy.

Before they even stepped into the living room, they could already hear laughter echoing.

Wen Ran tilted her face to look up at Mo Xiuchen, who, sensing her gaze, lowered his head, his eyes brimming with tenderness as he looked at her.

“My brother and Yiyi seem to have reconciled?”

Wen Ran lowered her voice, her eyes holding a trace of delight as she asked.

Mo Xiuchen chuckled warmly, raised a hand, and fondly ruffled her hair. After a moment’s thought, he took her hand and turned around to exit the living room again.

“Xiuchen, aren’t we going in?”

Wen Ran blinked in puzzlement.

Mo Xiuchen draped the coat she had just taken off back over her shoulders and asked softly, “Ranran, are you hungry?”

“Not really.”

Wen Ran shook her head, allowing him to guide her. The two walked side by side along the pebble path toward the front gate.

Mo Xiuchen’s lips curled into a gentle smile. “Then let’s take a walk outside. Even though snowy days are cold, at least there isn’t much wind today.”

“Are you trying to give my brother and Yiyi more time alone together?” Wen Ran smiled at Mo Xiuchen, with a knowing look in her clear, bright eyes.

“Mm, it’s rare for them to have such fun together. Even though there are a few little ‘light bulbs’ around, they’re precisely the right wattage. It’s better if we don’t join in. Let them enjoy themselves for a while longer.”

Mo Xiuchen entwined his fingers with Wen Ran’s, then adjusted his grip to wrap her small hand in his palm. When Wen Ran moved slightly, he murmured, “This way, it won’t feel so cold. Your hands are freezing.”

“Xiuchen, when did you hire a new secretary?”

That afternoon, after leaving Fang Zhiwei’s house, Wen Ran had called Mo Xiuchen and then went to find him, only to see his new secretary accompanying him for an engagement.

Mo Xiuchen’s deep eyes narrowed slightly as he gazed at Wen Ran and chuckled lightly. “Ranran, are you jealous?”

“Of course not. I just thought that new secretary was really pretty and capable. I heard she came back from abroad.”

“She was recommended by Secretary Lin. When Secretary Lin’s husband got into trouble, she resigned and recommended the current secretary to me before she left.”

Mo Xiuchen explained softly, his eyes remaining fixed on Wen Ran as his low, warm voice brushed against her ear. “Ranran, Lina is a secretary. If she weren’t capable, why would I spend money hiring her?”

“Xiuchen, promise me you won’t get mad at what I say.”

Wen Ran bit her lip and lowered her gaze to her toes. “It’s just that the way she looks at you makes me uncomfortable.”

Wen Ran recalled the time her brother, Gu Kai, had asked Mo Xiuchen a certain question. Thinking back, the woman who spoke on the phone back then must have been the Lina she saw today.

For all this time, Xiuchen hadn’t mentioned her at all.

“Ranran, it makes me happy when you’re jealous, but I don’t want you to feel upset. So don’t let your thoughts run wild. The reason I brought her along today was because of certain connections she has. Ah Jin was also there today. If you’re uneasy, you can ask Ah Jin. Just see if I have even the slightest intention toward Lina.”

Mo Xiuchen stopped in his tracks, holding one of her hands in his while his other hand rested on her waist, making her meet his gaze head-on.

“I didn’t say you have feelings for her; I was just talking about her gaze. Forget it, let’s not discuss this anymore.”

Wen Ran smiled nonchalantly, pulled her hand out of his grasp, and turned to walk ahead.

Mo Xiuchen’s tall figure stood in place, watching as Wen Ran walked ten paces ahead. A trace of pain flickered in his deep eyes. He took out his phone and dialed a number.

Wen Ran squatted down, tracing letters in the snow with her finger. The low sound of Mo Xiuchen’s voice carried through the wind to her ears, making her pause in her actions.

She turned her head, looking at him in surprise.

Mo Xiuchen offered her a tender smile. After uttering a few brief words, he ended the call and strode over to where she was, squatting down in front of her.

“I never meant for you to ask me to let her go.”

Wen Ran tilted her head slightly, her delicate face looking up at Mo Xiuchen.

He chuckled softly, took hold of the hand she had been using to write in the snow, and noted how cold it had become in just a short while.

“Ranran, I’ve said it before—nothing is more important than you. I initially hired Lina for her abilities and connections. But if she makes you uncomfortable, then I can’t keep her here.”

“I…”

Wen Ran wanted to explain, but Mo Xiuchen gave her no opportunity to do so. “Ranran, I know what you’re about to say. You don’t need to feel guilty. Lina may indeed have a bit of interest in me.”

“You knew?”

Wen Ran blinked her eyes in surprise.

Mo Xiuchen merely smiled silently, turning slightly to imitate her, using his finger to write in the snow.

Wen Ran squatted quietly beside him, watching his fingers move nimbly across the snowy surface. Moments later, a string of words appeared in the snow: “Mo Xiuchen will always love Ranran!”

Mo Xiuchen turned to her, his smile warm. “Ranran, read it out loud.”

Wen Ran shot him a playful glare. In that instant, her heart overflowed with emotion—jealousy and unease dissipating as though they had never existed the moment those words were written.

Her eyes glistened slightly with moisture.

“You’re so easily moved.”

Mo Xiuchen whispered lovingly into her ear, his low voice thick with affection.

“You read it to me,” Wen Ran said playfully, grabbing his arm. Her clear, sparkling eyes brimmed with smiles. Mo Xiuchen’s gaze deepened. Suddenly, he cupped her head, leaned down, and kissed her lips, murmuring with deep affection, “Mo Xiuchen will always love Ranran.”

Wen Ran’s smile grew wider, but Mo Xiuchen seized the moment to pry her lips apart, delving deeper and tasting her sweetness.

“Xiuchen.”

Wen Ran let out a soft moan, regaining her senses. She began to push him away. Though twilight had deepened and there was no one around, they were still outside.

Mo Xiuchen chuckled softly as he let her go, his lingering expression evident as he licked his lips. His voice was slightly hoarse as he said, “Ranran, if there’s ever anything on your mind, don’t suppress it. Just tell me directly.”
