Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 1427: For Her

Chapter 1427: For Her

Bai Yiyi’s heart, which had just calmed down slightly, was thrown into chaos again because of his ambiguous words.

She furrowed her brows and turned her head slightly to the side, trying to evade the warm breath that Gu Kai exhaled near her ear.

Her gaze landed on the mirror and caught sight of the charming and enticing smile on Gu Kai’s lips. Her heartbeat skipped uncontrollably again.

“Let me comb it myself.”

Just as the comb in Gu Kai’s hand touched her hair, Bai Yiyi, feeling a bit uncomfortable, raised her hand to take it back. However, Gu Kai dodged her and let out a low chuckle above her head. His voice was light and pleasant, “Your hair got messy because of me. It’s my responsibility to fix it.”

Bai Yiyi shot him a playful glare, but deep down, her heart felt as sweet as if it had been dipped in honey.

Seeing her reaction, Gu Kai laughed even louder. His already handsome features became even more dazzling and captivating with his smile.

The ringtone of her phone on the bedside table suddenly broke the moment. Bai Yiyi blinked and was about to speak when Gu Kai gently said, “I’ll get it for you,” and walked over to pick up her phone.

“…”

Bai Yiyi’s eyes flickered slightly, as if she wanted to say something. In the end, she held back, simply pressing her lips together and quietly watching him.

When Gu Kai saw the caller ID, a subtle emotion flashed across his eyes—so fleeting that it disappeared within an instant, and his expression quickly returned to normal.

“It’s Aunt Bai. You should answer it.”

Handing the phone to Bai Yiyi, Gu Kai’s tone was calm and even. Compared to last night, he was clearly making an effort to accept Bai Yuqin.

Bai Yiyi detected the serenity in his voice, and a trace of surprise crossed her eyes. “Ah Kai, when I called her earlier, my mom was stuck on the highway. I asked her to call me once she was close so I could go pick her up.”

Gu Kai smiled faintly. His large hand continued combing her hair as he spoke gently, “Take the call. I’ll go with you later to pick up Aunt Bai.”

Looking at his handsome face in the mirror, Bai Yiyi was deeply moved. She answered the call in his presence. Bai Yuqin informed her that she’d reach the station in about twenty minutes.

“Mom, I’ll head to the station now to pick you up. Once you’re there, don’t leave; wait for me inside…”

After hanging up the phone, Bai Yiyi turned to Gu Kai gratefully and said, “Ah Kai, thank you, but I can go on my own. Stay here with Tongtong. If she wakes up, no one will be here for her.”

She didn’t want to make things difficult for him.

Her mother’s words from last night still rang clear in her mind. She wanted to give him more time—time to let go of old grievances before seeing her mom again.

Gu Kai also gazed at Bai Yiyi through the mirror. “Tongtong’s been sleeping for quite a while. She should wake up soon. We can all go together to pick up Aunt Bai. She’s here in G City for a health checkup, and it wouldn’t make sense for her to avoid going to Kangning Hospital and choose another one. So sooner or later, I’ll have to meet her.”

“Ah Kai, my mom isn’t planning to go to Kangning Hospital.”

Bai Yiyi’s lips pressed together, her voice soft.

Gu Kai’s brows knitted slightly, and his movements while combing her hair paused. His defined fingers rested on her shoulder as he leaned down, staring at her reflection earnestly. “Yiyi, earlier, when I wanted you, it wasn’t just out of physical need.”

“…”

Bai Yiyi looked at him in astonishment.

“I truly want to spend my life with you,” Gu Kai’s gentle voice resonated in her ear. “That’s why I don’t want to avoid things anymore. For you, starting today, I’ll try to get along with Aunt Bai.”

“Ah Kai.”

That one phrase, “For you,” made Bai Yiyi’s nose sting with emotion.

For some reason, she had the sudden urge to cry.

He was willing to make the effort to treat his enemy like a family elder. In the future, he would even acknowledge this woman as his mother-in-law and treat her with the same respect as his own mother.

For anyone, such a thing would be immensely difficult.

If Gu Kai didn’t love her, why would he compromise himself like this?

Bai Yiyi looked into Gu Kai’s gentle eyes. In that moment, her emotions felt as complex as a spilled bottle of spices—bitter, sweet, sour, all mixed together.

Gu Kai’s long fingers tenderly brushed through her hair. He pulled over a nearby chair, put down the comb, took one of her hands, and said softly, “Yiyi, for a while, I might not be able to treat Aunt Bai like I used to. When I see her, I’ll still feel uncomfortable. But I’ll do my best to adjust my emotions.”

Bai Yiyi shook her head. “You don’t have to force yourself. You don’t have to make yourself uncomfortable for me. Last night, my mom even told me not to make things hard for you. When I said those things to you back then, I know I went too far.”

“You were just concerned about Aunt Bai’s health, which is why you said what you did. I understand and won’t hold it against you.” Gu Kai didn’t want their conversation to turn heavy, so he deliberately curved his lips into a smile, adding a playful tone to his words.

“Where do you plan for Aunt Bai to stay while she’s in G City?”

Gu Kai paused slightly before continuing, his concern evident in his question.

Bai Yiyi’s gaze flickered. “My mom said she wants to stay at a hotel.”

“No way. Aunt Bai should stay here. Her health isn’t in a good place. You definitely wouldn’t feel at ease with her alone at a hotel.”

Gu Kai’s words were gentle yet filled with an undeniable assertiveness that left no room for disagreement.

Bai Yiyi stared at him in surprise. “Didn’t you just say that you’re not ready to face my mom? Let’s just have her stay at a hotel for now.”

“Yiyi, are you saying that I’ll stay here while Aunt Bai stays at a hotel?” Gu Kai’s eyes narrowed slightly, and a smirk spread across his face, glinting with a certain dark charm.

Bai Yiyi frowned. “Wasn’t that what you said?”

“Yes, I did mention that I wanted to stay here. But since Aunt Bai is already here, I’ll hold off on moving in for now. Once some time has passed, and if you want to live together, we can move back in then.”

As he finished, a trace of teasing and ambiguity colored the laughter in Gu Kai’s eyes.

“I don’t want to live with you!”

Bai Yiyi threw him a coquettish glare, her cheeks flushing red.

“But—”

Gu Kai was about to joke with her again when suddenly, there was a knock at the door. Following that, Tongtong’s childish voice sounded through the door. “Daddy, Mommy.”

Bai Yiyi’s expression shifted in surprise. She pulled her hand away from Gu Kai’s grasp and stood up immediately, saying, “Tongtong, you’re already awake.”

As she spoke, she jogged to the door and opened it for Tongtong.

Outside, Tongtong was rubbing her eyes with one hand and yawning.

When she looked up at Bai Yiyi standing in the doorway, her drowsiness disappeared instantly, and a happy smile spread across her face. “Mommy.”

“Tongtong woke up and came to find Mommy without crying. Such a good girl.”

Bai Yiyi planted a kiss on Tongtong’s forehead and took her hand, leading her into the room.

Tongtong raised her little chin proudly, her smile radiant. “Tongtong is all grown up now and won’t cry.”

“Haha, Tongtong really is such a good girl. She’s grown up and doesn’t cry anymore.” Gu Kai’s laughter brimmed with pride and delight, as if Tongtong’s good behavior were entirely his doing.

Seeing his smug expression, Bai Yiyi chuckled softly as well. “Tongtong, Grandma has arrived at the station. Would you like to go with Mommy to pick her up?”

“Yes! Daddy and Tongtong will go together,” Tongtong answered without hesitation, speaking for her father as well.
