Chapter 1428: 1427 I love you
Hearing Tongtong say this, the corners of Bai Yiyi’s mouth twitched, while Gu Kai laughed loudly, “Tongtong, Daddy will drive to go pick up Grandma with you and Mommy, okay?”
“Okay.”
Tongtong nodded heavily, looking at Bai Yiyi with bright eyes, happily saying, “Mommy, Daddy will go together.”
Bai Yiyi chuckled softly, and said to Gu Kai, “Tongtong is speaking more fluently now, I’ve only been away a few days, and she can actually say a complete sentence.”
“Well, of course, you have to see whose daughter Tongtong is.” Gu Kai replied without humility. After speaking, he bent down to pick up Tongtong, placing her on the chair by the dressing table.
“Tongtong, sit still, Daddy will braid your hair, and then we’ll go pick up Grandma.”
The last time Bai Yiyi left for those ten days, Gu Kai learned to braid Tongtong’s hair, and now he was even more skilled at it.
Bai Yiyi stood by, watching Gu Kai’s gentle and skillful fingers busy with Tongtong’s hair. His handsome brow was gently curved with a warm smile, his expression focused and irresistibly charming.
Her heart unwittingly warmed, and the gaze she fixed on them became gradually tender.
Once her hair was done, Gu Kai carried Tongtong back to the children’s room, dressed her, and the three of them went downstairs together to the station to pick up Bai Yuqin.
Though Tongtong was young, her perceptiveness allowed her to sense the difference between her parents now and a while ago.
Along the way, she was especially excited, chattering nonstop with Bai Yiyi. Gu Kai would occasionally glance through the rearview mirror at the cheerful duo conversing in the back seat, their radiant smiles reflecting in his eyes as he silently swore to himself:
No matter what obstacles lay ahead, he would never separate from Yiyi again, never again let Tongtong only be with her daddy or her mommy. He wished for Tongtong to always remain as joyful and happy as she was now.
When they arrived at the station, Bai Yuqin was already waiting there.
Gu Kai, carrying Tongtong, walked side by side with Bai Yiyi into the station, until he saw Bai Yuqin and hastened his pace, walking ahead of Bai Yiyi.
A flicker of astonishment appeared in Bai Yiyi’s eyes, but she quickly understood Gu Kai’s thoughts, her lips curling gently as she looked on, warmth slowly coloring her gaze.
“Grandma, Grandma.”
Though still several steps away, Tongtong’s crisp and sweet voice rang out, calling and waving to Bai Yuqin.
When Bai Yuqin saw Gu Kai, she initially showed a hint of discomfort, but under Tongtong’s voice, her face soon broke into a broad smile.
“Aunt Bai, have you been waiting long?”
Gu Kai spoke politely, smiling.
Bai Yuqin paused first, then shook her head with a smile, “Not long, not long, I just got off the bus a moment ago.”
Perhaps due to excitement, she coughed a bit after finishing her sentence.
Seeing this, Bai Yiyi hurried forward to gently pat Bai Yuqin’s back, while beside her, Gu Kai put Tongtong on the ground, picked up Bai Yuqin’s water bottle, unscrewed the cap, and handed it to her, “Aunt Bai, have some water.”
Gratefully, Bai Yuqin glanced at Gu Kai, took a couple of sips to stop her coughing.
“Tongtong, you and Mommy help Grandma, we’ll go to the hospital first for Aunt Bai’s check-up, then head home.”
With that, Gu Kai bent down to pick up Bai Yuqin’s luggage.
Following orders, Tongtong immediately went forward, grabbing her grandmother’s hand with her little one, “Grandma, I’ll help you.”
“Thank you, Tongtong.”
Though Bai Yuqin could walk on her own, she didn’t feel it was necessary to refuse the help since it was Gu Kai who suggested it, fearing that if she rejected, it might upset him.
She could tell that Gu Kai was more enthusiastic towards her today than before.
Her gaze shifted between him and Yiyi, and a smile touched her heart as she sensed that Gu Kai and Yiyi were getting along well.
In Gu Kai’s eyes rested undisguised traces of tenderness that spoke volumes to Bai Yuqin about what it meant.
And as Yiyi looked at Gu Kai, Bai Yuqin recognized that familiar gaze—a woman’s unguarded admiration for the man she loves.
With the luggage in hand, Gu Kai walked ahead. Bai Yuqin deliberately slowed her pace, trailing a few steps behind, then, amid the stream of people leaving the station, softly asked, “Yiyi, are you and Ah Kai back together?”
A tinge of shyness flickered in Bai Yiyi’s eyes, but for her mother’s peace of mind about living with them, she didn’t hide it and nodded gently, “Yes, I’ve gotten back together with him.”
Upon hearing this, Bai Yuqin’s face immediately blossomed into a smile, “Yiyi, do take good care of Ah Kai.”
She initially thought to add: The debt your father and I owe him, you can make up for it on our behalf. But upon reflection, she reconsidered, realizing it would be inappropriate, potentially burdening Yiyi with pressure.
So she swallowed the words.
Bai Yiyi smiled and said, “I know, Mom, don’t worry, this time I’ve truly committed to being with him, and we won’t split up easily.”
As she finished speaking, her mind echoed with the passionate moment earlier that afternoon, recalling what Gu Kai had whispered in her ear during their embrace, “Yiyi, I love you.”
She had heard before that men often express love during intimate moments.
Yet, once their clothes are back on, they forget those words and promises.
However, she believed Gu Kai’s declaration of love was sincere, not a fleeting indulgence.
Giving herself to him earlier today, Bai Yiyi did not regret it; she loved him regardless of whether they would grow old together. She was willing to give herself to him entirely, body and soul.
“Mom, I talked to Ah Kai about your wish to stay at a hotel, but he disagreed, saying it’s not good for your health to stay alone in a hotel. So, after the hospital check-up later, you should come home with us instead of thinking about staying in a hotel.”
Bai Yuqin looked at her daughter in shock, barely able to believe it.
The change was too significant.
As she glanced again at Yiyi’s slightly flushed cheeks, she hesitated and softly asked, “Yiyi, did you and Ah Kai do that?”
“Mom.” Bai Yiyi called out, embarrassed.
She then explained, “It’s not because of that, that Ah Kai wants you to stay at our home. Ah Kai is genuinely trying to let go of the past, and wants to honor you as he did before.”
As they exited the station, Bai Yiyi glanced ahead, seeing Gu Kai carrying the luggage towards the parking lot, across a few figures.
He turned back, their eyes meeting just in time. With a subtly raised eyebrow and a charming curve to his lips, he pointed to the side of the road.
Signaling her to wait there with Bai Yuqin and Tongtong, as he went to get the car.
Bai Yiyi responded with a smile, nodding, before Gu Kai turned to leave.
“Yiyi, maybe it would be better to wait a little while; Ah Kai may have a hard time accepting me all at once,” Bai Yuqin worriedly suggested, feeling a pang of guilt when she faced Gu Kai, unable to act as natural as before.
Bai Yiyi frowned, “Mom, I’ll be returning to work in a couple of days, and you’ll need to help take care of Tongtong. If you stay at a hotel, what will happen to Tongtong being home alone?”
In fact, Gu Kai mentioned they could hire another nanny to take care of both her mother and Tongtong, but Bai Yiyi amended her words to persuade her mother.
