Gu Kai’s mouth curved into a mischievous smile, his handsome brow raised, agreeing quite readily.

Bai Yiyi frowned. She’s not dumb; how could she not catch the deliberate emphasis he placed on the word ‘discuss’? She glared at him, then turned to look out the car window.

She knew she shouldn’t continue the conversation.

If she did, who knows what mischievous remarks he’d have next in store for her.

“Yiyi, before the New Year, didn’t you agree to only help Ah Jin for a few days? How about not going to work?”

After a few minutes of silence in the car, Gu Kai turned to Bai Yiyi while waiting at a red light.

Bai Yiyi retracted her gaze from the window, looking towards him.

Before she could speak, she heard him again, “How about not going to work and coming with me to the hospital instead?”

“I’m not a doctor; why would I work at a hospital?”

Bai Yiyi thought that Gu Kai stopping her from working at the pharmaceutical factory meant he wanted her to work at a hospital, which amused her.

Gu Kai’s lips curled alluringly, his voice lowered enticingly, “Not to work at the hospital. If we spend more time together, you could quickly give Tongtong a little brother or sister, which is much more meaningful than working at Ah Jin’s pharmaceutical factory.”

“Get out of here.”

Bai Yiyi laughed and reprimanded, “I previously said I wouldn’t go after the New Year because I want to leave G City. If you agree to let me leave now, then I won’t go.”

Gu Kai’s eyes dimmed as the car in front started moving, and his Maybach got back on the road.

Seeing him so gloomy, Bai Yiyi pursed her lips and said softly, “Maybe it really is possible to give Tongtong a little brother or sister; those couple of days were not safe days.”

Upon hearing this, Gu Kai’s dark eyes were instantly replaced with brightness, as he turned to look at her for two seconds, a mischievous idea brewing, his lips forming a smile as he silently turned his head away.

The exuberant expression was worlds apart from the gloomy look he had earlier.

Bai Yiyi watched this childish side of him and felt a sudden softness in her heart.

After dropping her off at the factory, Gu Kai thoughtfully got out to open the car door for her. After she got out, he reminded her, “Don’t work too hard.”

“You should hurry to the hospital.”

Bai Yiyi waved at him and quickly walked through the factory gates.

Gu Kai’s tall and handsome figure stood in front of the car, watching Bai Yiyi until she entered the office building. He pursed his lips and bent to sit back in the car.

He didn’t drive away immediately but instead took out his phone and dialed Wen Jin’s number.

After a few rings, Wen Jin’s voice came through, “Hey, Ah Kai.”

“Yiyi is back at work, Ah Jin. Don’t make her work too hard. Keep her away from any medication she shouldn’t be handling. If things get too busy for her, hire another secretary.”

“What’s wrong with Yiyi? Is she sick?”

Wen Jin was puzzled by Gu Kai’s words.

“She’s not sick; just that she shouldn’t exert herself too much right now. She can’t touch any medicines like musk.”

Gu Kai frowned, annoyed at how clueless Ah Jin was.

At this point, Wen Jin chuckled knowingly, “Haha, I get it. Don’t worry, I won’t make Yiyi work too hard.”

“Hmm, if anything goes wrong, you can expect me to hold you accountable.” Gu Kai didn’t forget to add.

Wen Jin ended the call with a chuckle. Just as he stepped away from his desk, there was a knock on his door. He called for whoever it was to come in, and it turned out to be Bai Yiyi.

“President Wen, Happy New Year!”

After Bai Yiyi spoke, Wen Jin smiled back with “Happy New Year,” his gaze somewhat cryptically amused.

“President Wen, is there a problem?”

Bai Yiyi blinked at Wen Jin in confusion, “Isn’t Xiaocha coming today? I didn’t see her.”

At the mention of Jing Xiaocha, the enigmatic smile on Wen Jin’s face faded a bit, as he returned to his desk, “She didn’t take leave. Yiyi, starting today, leave any work involving medication to Jing Xiaocha. Don’t go to places like the lab or workshop anymore.”

“Huh?”

Bai Yiyi was thoroughly baffled.

Wen Jin spoke in a gentle tone, “Soon, let Xiaocha go to finance to get the red envelopes for all the employees. These are your red envelopes.”

As he said that, he took out two red envelopes from his drawer.

Though puzzled, Bai Yiyi accepted the envelopes, just as there were two more knocks on the door—it was Jing Xiaocha.

“President Wen, Sister Yiyi, Happy New Year.” At work, Jing Xiaocha calls Wen Jin ‘President Wen,’ but privately, she calls him ‘Brother Wen.’

Bai Yiyi handed the red envelope to Jing Xiaocha, “This is from President Wen.”

Wen Jin reiterated the instructions he just gave Bai Yiyi to Jing Xiaocha, and seeing their mutual confusion, he laughed and added, “Yiyi, I’m really grateful that Ah Kai let you come back to work. You’re in a special condition now, so you shouldn’t handle those things. Xiaocha, make sure not to bring those medications to Yiyi…”

“President Wen, wait a moment.”

Bai Yiyi finally started to grasp that this was all Gu Kai’s doing.

Wen Jin paused his words, “What’s up, Yiyi?”

“Misunderstood?”

Wen Jin frowned, recalling what Gu Kai had said, “That can’t be right, Ah Kai specifically told me this, even saying he’d hold me accountable if anything went wrong.”

Though just a young girl, Jing Xiaocha wasn’t oblivious. Having listened on, she smartly caught on, her eyes lighting up with joy as she asked, “Sister Yiyi, are you pregnant?”

“No.”

Bai Yiyi felt even more embarrassed, silently cursing Gu Kai and his wild ideas.

“Could Ah Kai have tricked me.”

Upon hearing her denial, Wen Jin didn’t think she was lying, though her awkwardness made Wen Jin squint playfully, “Yiyi, even if Ah Kai deceived me, we should still heed these cautions. Xiaocha, remember what I said.”

His implication was that whether she was pregnant or not, whether Gu Kai tricked him or not, Bai Yiyi should stay away from those items.

Jing Xiaocha earnestly promised, “Don’t worry, President Wen. I’ll take good care of Sister Yiyi.”

Bai Yiyi felt a twitch at her mouth, thinking she’s here to work, not as some precious treasure being tended to.
