Chapter 1620: Chapter 1619: Don’t Force Her

“So, you came to G City not to win back your money, but to see Xiaoxiao, right?”

Wen Jin asked with a smile. It’s been so long, and he only comes to win back his money now.

Who would believe that!

“How did you know Bai Xiaoxiao was returning home today? It seems even Meng Ke didn’t know.”

Qin Mu narrowed his sharp eyes, gazing directly at Luo Haofeng.

Luo Haofeng ate leisurely and instead of answering, he asked, “Do you want to eat more with me? Come on, eat a bit more. You can accompany the Meng, but not a brother like me. How heartless.”

Mo Xiuchen smirked indifferently, “If we were heartless, would we care about you?”

“It’s not caring, it’s gossiping!”

Luo Haofeng pouted, not being naive.

If he hadn’t answered their questions just now, they would have certainly kept asking until dusk.

“No good deed goes unpunished.”

Gu Kai sighed and shook his head while speaking, “I just said, Ah Feng definitely wouldn’t appreciate it.”

“Had we known, we wouldn’t have put Meng Ke on the spot at the table.”

Wen Jin chimed in agreement.

Luo Haofeng’s eyes flashed with doubt, still skeptical about what they said.

“Since Ah Feng said so, next time Meng Ke approaches you guys, try being more approachable.”

Mo Xiuchen’s words made Qin Mu burst into laughter, “Xiuchen, it seems like you’re the most arrogant.”

“Can I be like you guys?”

Mo Xiuchen leaned back leisurely against the chair and explained slowly, “I’m speaking on Ranran’s behalf.”

On the way back, Bai Xiaoxiao kept her eyes closed.

She wasn’t asleep; her mind was just wandering, not wanting to face Meng Ke.

The car stopped slowly in front of her house, and before Meng Ke could speak, Bai Xiaoxiao opened her eyes, “Meng Ke, thank you for bringing me home.”

“I’m your boyfriend; doing things for you is what I’m supposed to do.”

Meng Ke smiled, his tone cheerful.

Though he had seen Luo Haofeng earlier and had doubts, he didn’t mention it.

He spoke, then got out to open the car door for Bai Xiaoxiao.

Bai Xiaoxiao unbuckled her seatbelt and bent to get out only after he opened the door.

“I need a good sleep at home, so I won’t invite you in.”

Bai Xiaoxiao smiled slightly apologetically. Meng Ke glanced at her villa, then looked back at her face.

“There’s plenty of time. I’ll wait for your call when you’re refreshed.”

Bai Xiaoxiao chuckled, “Alright, I’ll call you after I’ve slept well.”

She spoke, yawning tiredly.

Meng Ke’s eyes filled with a trace of tenderness; his voice grew softer, “Go in and rest quickly.”

“Bye!”

Bai Xiaoxiao waved at him and turned to leave.

“Xiaoxiao.”

Meng Ke called to her just as she reached the door.

“What is it?”

Bai Xiaoxiao turned around, smiling at Meng Ke.

Meng Ke pursed his lips and took a step forward, looking down at her, “Xiaoxiao, I’ve told my parents about your return. Once you’ve rested, come over for a meal.”

“Ah?”

Bai Xiaoxiao looked surprised for two seconds.

She came to her senses, smiled, and nodded, “It’s only right for me to visit your parents. I’ll go tomorrow.”

“Alright.”

Meng Ke had worried Bai Xiaoxiao might be unhappy or refuse.

But she agreed so readily, which pleasantly surprised him, his delight showing unabashedly on his face.

“Xiaoxiao, thank you.”

Bai Xiaoxiao couldn’t handle the intense look in his eyes filled with excitement and joy, possibly too close, and instinctively took a half step back.

She said, “I’m going in now,” and turned into the villa before Meng Ke could say more.

Upon returning home, Mother Bai and Mr. Bai were sitting on the living room sofa, drinking tea.

“Xiaoxiao, why are you alone? Didn’t invite Little Meng in?”

Mother Bai saw her daughter return alone and immediately waved her over to sit.

Bai Xiaoxiao shook her head wearily, “Dad, Mom, I didn’t sleep on the plane, I’m really tired. I’ll go to my room to sleep first, let’s talk after I’ve rested.”

“Alright…”

Mother Bai frowned, about to speak, but Mr. Bai gently nudged her, signaling her to stop.

Watching Bai Xiaoxiao’s silhouette disappear up the stairs, Mother Bai withdrew her gaze and asked Mr. Bai beside her, “Old Bai, why did you nudge me just now?”

“I think our Xiaoxiao doesn’t really like Meng Ke.”

Mr. Bai hesitated and shared his thoughts.

His words earned a disdainful look from Mother Bai, “Of course, I know, but feelings develop slowly. Xiaoxiao doesn’t like Meng Ke now because she doesn’t want to. Once she figures it out, she’ll like him.”

Mr. Bai sighed, “I’m just worried that Xiaoxiao won’t be happy.”

As a father, Mr. Bai’s greatest wish is for his daughter to marry a good man she loves, who would treat her well her whole life and give her happiness.

Talking about this, Mother Bai’s face changed.

She knew whom Xiaoxiao still couldn’t let go of in her heart.

But that’s impossible.

“Xiaoxiao will be happy. Meng Ke’s feelings for Xiaoxiao are clear to us. Even though Xiaoxiao was abroad for the past two years, he never had any scandals.”

At this, Mother Bai paused before continuing, “Now that Xiaoxiao’s back, Meng Ke will definitely get along well with her. Give her some time, and she’ll like Meng Ke.”

“I hope so. During dinner, Meng Ke’s parents expressed their wish for him to settle down soon.”

Mr. Bai furrowed his thick brows slightly, “Regarding this, we can’t follow the Meng family in pressuring Xiaoxiao, we must give her plenty of time.”

Mother Bai nodded, “Don’t worry. She’s my daughter, wouldn’t I wish her happiness?”

Though Mother Bai spoke about wanting Bai Xiaoxiao to marry soon, she wouldn’t push her into an unhappy marriage.

“That’s good.”

Mr. Bai smiled in relief, glancing towards the second floor, and said to his wife, “Go upstairs and check if Xiaoxiao’s asleep.”

“Alright!”

Mother Bai smiled, got up, and went upstairs.

Bai Xiaoxiao had just finished showering and had come out of the bathroom, when she heard a couple of knocks on the door, followed by Mother’s voice coming through, “Xiaoxiao, are you asleep?”

“Mom, I just took a shower, about to sleep.”

Bai Xiaoxiao walked over to open the door, then turned back to the dressing table.

“How can you sleep with wet hair? Dry it first.”

Mother Bai glanced at her damp hair and frowned immediately.

Bai Xiaoxiao smiled and explained, “I’m not a child anymore. But, Mom, since you’re here, help me dry my hair.”

“Just this once since you’ve just returned home today.”

Mother Bai gave her a playful scolding look, walked over to plug in the hairdryer, and started drying Bai Xiaoxiao’s hair. While doing so, she asked, “On the way back, did Little Meng say anything to you?”

Bai Xiaoxiao looked at her mother in the mirror and replied casually, “He said his parents know I returned today and that I should go to his house for dinner tomorrow.”
