Chapter 1916: 1915: I Want to See Mom
Chapter 1916: Chapter 1915: I Want to See Mom
After breakfast, Mother Bai accompanied Bai Xiaoxiao to the hospital for a check-up.
Before leaving the house, Bai Xiaoxiao said to Mother Bai, “Mom, I’ll call Ranran to see if she has time to go to the hospital with us.”
“Okay, call Ranran then. It’ll be more convenient if she goes along.”
Mother Bai nodded with a smile. She knew that Xiaoxiao and Ranran were like sisters, and she wouldn’t oppose letting her accompany her.
“I’ll wait for you outside first, come out after you finish the call.”
Mother Bai suddenly remembered something, picked up her bag, and left the living room first.
Bai Xiaoxiao’s eyes flickered as she watched Mother Bai leave the living room. She took out her phone and dialed Wen Ran’s number.
The phone rang a few times before Wen Ran’s slightly sleepy voice lazily came through, “Hey, Xiaoxiao.”
“Ranran, you’re not still in bed, are you?”
Bai Xiaoxiao asked with a teasing tone, laughing.
“I was exhausted from horseback riding yesterday afternoon, and ended up oversleeping today.” Wen Ran explained over the phone, though it was unclear whether it was the horseback riding or someone tiring her out last night.
Which resulted in her lingering in bed in the morning.
Bai Xiaoxiao chuckled, not entirely convinced by Wen Ran’s words.
But remembering the purpose of her phone call, she directly said, “Ranran, I’m going to the hospital this morning. Do you want to come with me?”
“What are you going to the hospital for? Are you not feeling well?”
Since it was not during the pregnancy check-up period, Wen Ran immediately grew concerned.
The sleepiness was also chased away by her worry.
Hearing the concern in her tone, Bai Xiaoxiao quickly explained, “Don’t worry, I’m not unwell. It’s just that my dad wants to know whether I’m having a baby boy or girl, so I thought I’d get checked out, since I’m free anyway. Once we know, we won’t have to keep guessing every day.”
“Oh, so that’s it. I thought you weren’t feeling well. Okay, let’s meet at the hospital later; I’ll get up now.”
Wen Ran laughed with relief and, after agreeing with Bai Xiaoxiao, didn’t chat further and hung up the phone.
Turning her face to the side, she saw Mo Xiuchen sitting on the edge of the bed, laughing softly, “Ranran, let’s go horseback riding every week.”
His words earned a glare from Wen Ran.
This man is really exasperating.
Mo Xiuchen laughed happily, picked up the clothes he’d found for her, and affectionately said, “Ranran, let me dress you. Get up and have breakfast.”
“When did you get up?”
Wen Ran grabbed the clothes from his hands, asking with annoyance.
It was really amazing—every time he’s the one exhausting her, yet it’s always her who can’t get up in the morning.
Mo Xiuchen affectionately patted her head, ignoring her resentful gaze, and his voice was deep and gentle, “I got up and made breakfast, letting the three little ones eat first, then came upstairs to call you.”
“You go downstairs and have breakfast, I’ll come down in a bit.”
Wen Ran felt frustrated and didn’t want to pay attention to this man.
Mo Xiuchen noticed her displeasure and a delighted smile played at the corners of his lips, “Ranran, let me help you.”
He said, leaning in to help her get dressed, and to distract her from resisting, he asked, “What did Bai Xiaoxiao call you for?”
Wen Ran furrowed her brows, looking at his approaching hands, struggled but to no avail, and eventually gave in. Anyway, they were old married couples now, no matter how shy, it couldn’t change him.
“Xiaoxiao said she’s going to the hospital for a check-up to see if it’s a boy or girl, and asked if I wanted to go with her.”
Mo Xiuchen’s handsome brows raised slightly, just as he was about to say something, there was a knock on the door from outside.
Then, Ziyi’s voice came through the door, sounding childlike, “Dad, is Mom awake yet? Can I come in?”
Wasn’t Ziyi supposed to be downstairs having breakfast? Why did he come up?
Wen Ran used her eyes to ask Mo Xiuchen.
Mo Xiuchen helplessly shrugged, he didn’t know either.
Seeing that he neither responded nor moved, Wen Ran signaled for him to quickly go out with her eyes.
Mo Xiuchen responded, dipped down to steal a quick kiss from Wen Ran’s lips, then rose to open the door just a little, looking at his mini version outside, and with fatherly authority, asked solemnly, “Ziyi, why aren’t you downstairs eating breakfast? What are you doing upstairs?”
Ziyi blinked his pretty eyes and craned his neck, trying to see into the room, but the door was too slightly ajar and his dad blocked his view like a wall.
He couldn’t see his mom.
He furrowed his elegant brows, trying to act grown-up, but his voice was still tender and childish, “Dad, has Mom not gotten up yet?”
“Your mom is getting dressed, go downstairs and eat breakfast obediently.” Mo Xiuchen maintained his fatherly posture, his handsome brows carrying a hint of seriousness.
“I’m full.”
Though Ziyi was much shorter than Mo Xiuchen and couldn’t compete with him in maturity, his cute and lively demeanor was no match for Mo Xiuchen, but he was bold and not at all afraid of his serious father.
Mo Xiuchen laughed inwardly, but his expression remained unchanged, “If you’re full, go downstairs and keep your two sisters company.”
“Dad, I want to see Mom. I have something to tell her.”
Ziyi glanced left and right, unable to see the scene inside the bedroom.
Inwardly, he complained about his dad’s meanness—yesterday afternoon, his dad had promised him and Momo and Xinxin that they’d take turns riding on the same horse with mom.
In the end, his sneaky dad claimed that the three of them were too small to care for mom and would tire her out, and occupied their mom all afternoon by himself.
Later in the evening, after dinner, he ordered them to go to bed without letting them ask for their mom to accompany them.
“If you have something to say, tell me, and I’ll pass it on to mom later.”
Mo Xiuchen observed his son’s dissatisfaction, his eyes squinting slightly, and spoke nonchalantly.
