Chapter 1950: 1949 I'll Come Back In a Bit
Chapter 1950: 1949 I’ll Come Back In a Bit
Kangning Hospital delivery room.
It had been two hours since Bai Xiaoxiao entered the delivery room.
The cervix wasn’t dilated enough yet, and Luo Haofeng stood beside her, accompanying her for the entire two hours without letting go of her hand.
Even when he wiped her sweat, he used his other hand.
After another wave of contractions, Bai Xiaoxiao noticed Luo Haofeng’s face was slightly pale, and sweat was faintly appearing on his forehead. She furrowed her brows and asked worriedly, “You’ve been standing for so long, are your legs hurting?”
Luo Haofeng’s eyes flickered slightly, and he forced a smile. The pain in his legs was indeed becoming more and more unbearable.
A hundred days to heal after bone and muscle injuries, and he hadn’t rested that long. He was overly tense when driving her to the hospital in the afternoon. Ever since he saw her squatting by the roadside to now, lying on the delivery bed, Luo Haofeng’s heart had been hanging in suspense.
But unless she gives birth, he won’t be at ease.
“Xiaoxiao, I’m fine.”
“You should go out and wait for me. I don’t know when the baby will be born.” Bai Xiaoxiao had been in pain for so long, she was already exhausted.
Even speaking felt tiring.
Luo Haofeng shook his head without thinking, gazing at her eyes tenderly and deeply, “I’m staying here with you.”
Perhaps this was the last time he could accompany her.
Bai Xiaoxiao felt a pang in her heart and said softly, “You should go out and rest for a while, then come back in. If you faint from exhaustion, how can you stay with me?”
Although Bai Xiaoxiao’s voice was soft and her expression calm, the concern in her tone was unmistakable.
Luo Haofeng hesitated for a few seconds, then nodded lightly, “Alright, I’ll come back in a while.”
“Go on.”
After Bai Xiaoxiao said this, she gently closed her eyes, no longer looking at Luo Haofeng.
Feeling his warm hand leave hers, Bai Xiaoxiao felt a brief emptiness in her heart and instinctively wanted to grab his hand back, not wanting him to leave.
But thinking about his leg, the fingers of her free hand slowly curled up into a small fist.
Luo Haofeng gave her a deep look before dragging his heavy steps, limping out of the delivery room.
His footsteps were light, but Bai Xiaoxiao, with her eyes closed, could tell from the slightly uneven sound of his steps how much his leg hurt.
Her heart ached again, and she recalled the scene in the afternoon outside the café when Luo Haofeng ran towards her.
Luo Haofeng didn’t go outside to rest; he just went to the restroom and said a few words to Qiao Xiuyun and Wen Ran, who were waiting outside the door.
Qiao Xiuyun noticed his leg pain and was worried about Bai Xiaoxiao’s condition but didn’t ask Luo Haofeng why he was with Xiaoxiao.
“How is Xiaoxiao?”
“Don’t worry, Aunt. I’ll stay with Xiaoxiao.”
Luo Haofeng’s tone was gentle, and his expression was firm. Even though she knew he was with another woman, Qiao Xiuyun couldn’t stop him from staying with Xiaoxiao at that moment.
Ten minutes later, he returned to the delivery room.
Bai Xiaoxiao was in severe pain, and upon hearing the familiar footsteps at the door, she instinctively looked towards the entrance.
Under the light, Luo Haofeng limped towards her, his brows slightly furrowed, his narrow almond eyes filled with heartache.
“Xiaoxiao.”
Seeing Bai Xiaoxiao in such pain, Luo Haofeng quickened his pace to her side.
He reached out to grasp her damp little hand.
Bai Xiaoxiao’s slender fingers gripped his hand tightly, clenching her teeth to keep herself from crying out.
Luo Haofeng’s heart ached terribly, yet he was powerless and could only ask the doctor beside them, “Can’t she give birth yet?”
Compared to Luo Haofeng’s anxiety, the doctor was extremely calm. Hearing his question, the doctor put down what he was holding and got up to check Bai Xiaoxiao.
He lifted the blanket covering her to see if she was ready to give birth.
**
Outside the delivery room.
With Mr. Bai accompanying Mother Bai, Mo Xiuchen called Wen Ran to Gu Kai’s Office, and she didn’t refuse.
Upon exiting the elevator, she saw Mo Xiuchen waiting outside.
Wen Ran blinked in slight surprise, “Xiuchen, why are you here?”
“I’m waiting for you here.”
Mo Xiuchen smiled slightly, stepped forward, and held Wen Ran’s hand, saying gently, “I’ve ordered takeout. Go to Ah Kai’s office and eat something. You can see Xiaoxiao later.”
“Aunt Qiao and Uncle Bai are still outside the delivery room.”
Wen Ran blinked and whispered.
“I asked Uncle Bai earlier and ordered takeout for him and Aunt Qiao. It should arrive soon.”
Mo Xiuchen led Wen Ran to Gu Kai’s office. Gu Kai was sitting behind his desk, watching a film. Seeing them enter, he set down the film and got up to wash his hands.
As he washed, he said, “Ranran, it’s so late, aren’t you hungry?”
“If Xiuchen hadn’t mentioned dinner, I wouldn’t have felt hungry,” Wen Ran replied with a cheerful smile.
Gu Kai finished washing his hands and sat down on the sofa beside them, “I was hungry earlier. Unfortunately, Xiuchen said no one could eat until you came, so I had to wait with an empty stomach.”
Wen Ran smiled at Mo Xiuchen.
Mo Xiuchen returned her smile with a doting one, released her hand, and opened the food box.
“Ah Kai, as an elder brother, do you dare complain while waiting for Ranran?”
“Can’t you tell I was speaking well of you in front of Ranran?” Gu Kai glared at Mo Xiuchen, feeling unrewarded for his good intentions.
Mo Xiuchen nonchalantly raised an eyebrow, “I treat Ranran well; she knows it without you saying so.”
“Tsk, Ranran, I ordered these dishes, they have nothing to do with Xiuchen.” The table was filled with dishes Wen Ran liked.
Once Mo Xiuchen opened the food box, the office was filled with the aroma of food.
Wen Ran cheerfully said, “Then I’ll thank you first, brother.”
“Ranran, chopsticks.”
Mo Xiuchen kept a gentle smile on his lips and handed her a pair of chopsticks, “Indeed, Ah Kai ordered these dishes, Ranran, don’t be courteous with him. We don’t have him treat us often throughout the year.”
“So, tonight’s meal is on my brother.”
Wen Ran giggled.
Gu Kai raised a handsome brow, “Of course, Ranran, if you want something else, I can order more. The restaurant isn’t far from here, and the delivery is quick.”
“No need, with just this, the three of us can’t finish, ordering too much is wasteful.”
“Is Ah Feng still in the delivery room?”
Gu Kai picked up a pair of chopsticks and served Wen Ran first before taking a bite himself, asking casually.
Mo Xiuchen carefully deboned the fish for Wen Ran, placing the tender fish meat on the plate in front of her after ensuring it was bone-free.
“Luo Haofeng just came out for a bit and then went back to the delivery room. I don’t know when Xiaoxiao will give birth.”
After answering Gu Kai’s question, she turned to Mo Xiuchen, “Xiuchen, don’t just take care of me, eat something yourself too.”
“I’ll get it ready for you first. It won’t taste good if it gets cold.” Mo Xiuchen replied while continuing his actions.
