Chapter 2301: Chapter 105: Does This World Really Have…
Mo Xiuchen nonchalantly said, “Winning and losing depend on skill. They can’t win just because they want to.”
“Aren’t you afraid?”
Qin Mu chuckled, glancing toward the kitchen.
The meaning behind his words couldn’t have been clearer.
Mo Xiuchen curled his lips, ready to say something, but at that moment, he saw Wen Ran and Jing Xiaocha coming out of the kitchen with fruit platters.
The words he was about to say stuck in his throat. He turned and walked over to Wen Ran in a few steps, taking the fruit platter from her hands, “Ranran, let me help.”
“No need.”
Wen Ran shook her head with a smile.
A moment later, Bai Xiaoxiao and Bai Yiyi each brought out a plate of fruit.
Wen Ran brought out some more nuts and snacks.
The men started playing mahjong.
The women sat beside them, watching the game.
The game wrapped up at ten in the evening, with Gu Kai the sole winner. Mo Xiuchen neither won nor lost, and Wen Jin and Luo Haofeng both lost.
Qin Mu was the first to stand up, “Time to head home.”
His parents and in-laws had already strolled back to the Qin Family home after dinner, and Qingqing and Mo Ziye had gone out after the meal.
Qin Mu walked home but didn’t enter the living room. Instead, he drove a car from the garage to the cemetery.
The cemetery at midnight was naturally quiet, and in the cold of winter, it was even more deserted.
Qin Mu tightened his coat and went to the gravesite. He turned on the flashlight on his phone, illuminating the tombstone with An Lin’s serene and gentle smile.
In the stillness of the night, one could almost feel that she hadn’t left, but was smiling at him from right there in front of him.
Qin Mu gazed at the woman on the tombstone, a wave of warmth rising in his lonely eyes.
A warm smile gradually appeared on his lips. After a long time, he lifted his hand to caress the cold tombstone.
The chilling touch seeped through his skin straight to his heart, and a tinge of pain bled into his smile.
Suddenly, he felt a coldness envelop him.
“Lin, are you doing well on the other side?”
The wind whisked away the words he spoke, but it couldn’t blow away the sorrow between his brows, nor the longing for his beloved in his eyes.
“Time flies; it’s been over four years since you left in the blink of an eye.”
He spoke of time passing quickly, yet every moment of these four years had felt like a prolonged eternity.
Since An Lin left, he hadn’t spent a single night sleeping through till dawn. Initially, insomnia plagued him every night.
Gu Kai prescribed him traditional medicine, but it had no effect.
A heart’s ailment can only be cured with a heart’s remedy.
His friends watched him sorrow and wither away day by day but were helpless.
A year later, he gradually accepted the fact of losing her and took three more years to finally adapt to living alone in this world.
“Do you know?”
He gazed at the woman on the tombstone with eyes filled with longing, wishing he could be with her.
“I’ve always wanted to join you, but I couldn’t let go of Qingqing. If I left, her heart’s knot would never be untangled.”
“But I can’t bear to leave you all alone there… Qingqing and Ziye should have come to see you. They’re back to the way they were, and Ziye is still our son-in-law—the one you claimed more than twenty years ago.”
He vividly remembered how An Lin liked Ziye and was eager to claim him as a son-in-law back then.
Afraid that if she delayed, some other girl would snatch Ziye away.
“Entrusting Qingqing to Ziye sets our minds at ease. Just three days ago, Xiuchen and I avenged you, taking care of the sniper who killed you back then. But the revenge isn’t complete; the real mastermind hasn’t been punished yet… Once I avenge you fully.”
His eyes welled up with tears.
He wanted to say, “Once I avenge you fully, I’ll come to join you.”
But he couldn’t speak those words.
He knew very well in his heart.
Even when An Lin is avenged, he can’t go to her.
Though she departed, he must live on alone.
It’s not fear of death, but the inability to die.
They still have their parents to whom he must fulfill his filial duties, and if he recklessly left her, she would surely hold it against him.
Suddenly, a deep sorrow surged in his heart.
Qin Mu’s lonely figure slowly crouched down in front of the tombstone, his voice so low it was almost inaudible, “Lin, if you miss me, come find me in my dreams. Someday, I will come to be with you.”
After speaking, he steadied his emotions, then sat down against the tombstone, quietly staying with her without saying another word.
He didn’t know how much time had passed when his phone rang.
Qin Mu turned slightly, taking out his phone.
Seeing the caller ID, his eyes flickered, and he pressed the answer button, “Hello, Ah Jin.”
“How long are you planning to stay with An Lin?”
In the deep of night, Wen Jin’s voice gently came through.
Qin Mu felt a slight shock in his heart and glanced towards the direction of the cemetery’s entrance.
“Ah Jin, are you at the cemetery too?”
“Yes, I’m waiting for you in the car. If you don’t come out soon, I’ll come in to find you.”
A few minutes later.
Qin Mu got into Wen Jin’s car.
In the heating car, the chill of winter was shut out, warming him quickly.
Wen Jin, sitting in the driver’s seat, slightly turned and looked at Qin Mu with a furrowed brow, “You’ve an injured arm, instead of resting at home, you stay at the cemetery till the dead of night. If Qingqing finds out, she’ll be sad.”
“How did you know?”
“I saw you driving in this direction, and coincidentally, Xiuchen called me, so I came to find you.”
Listening to Wen Jin’s words, warmth surged in Qin Mu’s heart, previously filled with sorrow.
He lowered his eyes, staring at the dashboard in front of him, “It’s been a few days, I came to see An Lin.”
Wen Jin’s eyes slightly changed, but he didn’t speak.
He didn’t know what to say.
Four years had passed, yet Qin Mu hadn’t moved on from An Lin’s death.
He felt that any words would be hollow and powerless.
He had arrived after Qin Mu but didn’t disturb him, instead waiting quietly in the car.
Waiting for him.
“How long have you been here?”
Looking up at Wen Jin, Qin Mu asked with a smile.
Wen Jin raised an eyebrow, “As long as you’ve been here. If I hadn’t called you, were you planning to spend the night here?”
“How could I? It’s winter, not summer.”
Wen Jin coldly snorted, “You do realize it’s winter, yet you dress so lightly for the cemetery.”
“Ah Jin, do you think there’s really everything in this world?”
“What do you mean by that?” Wen Jin looked at Qin Mu, perplexed. Confused by his seemingly nonsensical words.
Qin Mu smiled.
He rephrased, “Do you think there’s really clairvoyance? Do you think the dead have souls and can meet the living?”
Surprise flashed in Wen Jin’s eyes, “Ah Mu, you don’t think you can see An Lin, do you?”
Qin Mu wore an expression that said exactly that, “If there’s truly clairvoyance in this world, I’d like to try it.”
“Aren’t those just scams?”
“Maybe they’re real. If you know anyone in that field, let me know.” Qin Mu said, patting his shoulder before dropping a final remark, “Let’s head home.” Then he opened the car door and got out.
