Chapter 2471 - 275

Chapter 2471: Chapter 275

"If you keep disregarding your injury like this, when will you be able to get out of bed to save Momo?"

Mo Xiuchen’s voice suddenly tinged with a hint of sarcasm and a faint anger.

Ye Zhan’s face stiffened.

The next second, Mo Xiuchen reached out to help him lie back down.

"Uncle Mo, can you tell me about what’s been happening these days?"

Ye Zhan lay back on the bed, sweat constantly rolling down his forehead.

His injuries were so severe that even without moving, the pain was intense.

And moving made it immeasurably worse.

But, even with cold sweat pouring from the pain, he forcibly restrained himself from uttering a sound.

Mo Xiuchen looked at Ye Zhan’s pale face and couldn’t hide the urgency in his eyes. He sighed quietly, suppressing the anger in his heart.

The man before him was the one his daughter loved, after all.

"These past few days, your father has been looking for Momo, and I’ve been searching for her too. We got information twice, but it led to nothing. Now, Momo might not be in the Imperial City anymore. As for her exact location, I’m not sure."

Ye Zhan’s face changed again, emotions surging like waves in his eyes, only to be extinguished moments later.

He could hear the indifference in Mo Xiuchen’s tone, as well as the unspoken meaning in his words.

Since the last time Momo flew from L City to the Imperial City to find him, Mo Xiuchen, though displeased, didn’t oppose their relationship.

But just now, when Mo Xiuchen mentioned Ye Zhangming searching for Poison Eagle, and that he was also searching for Momo,

Ye Zhan understood what was conveyed in those indifferent words.

"Take good care of your injuries. Don’t let Momo’s sacrifices for you be in vain." Mo Xiuchen observed Ye Zhan’s uncontrollable emotions with an even cooler tone.

This young man was his daughter’s affection, so no matter how upset or angry he was, there was nothing he could do.

"Momo, you’re wasting your effort. You can’t escape."

In a villa in the outskirts of a small town hundreds of miles from the Imperial City, Yin Shao, with a cold smile in his gloomy eyes, watched the girl who had tried countless ways to escape over these days.

The soft, warm crystal light in the room shone on her flushed, damp face, clearly reflecting the annoyance in her watery eyes. Her hair was slightly disheveled, still wet from the rain, and though she had taken off her coat, her sweater was still half-wet.

"If I can’t escape, why are you so angry?"

Thrown roughly onto the bed by him, Momo pulled her sweater’s neckline back up while provocatively and sarcastically glaring at the man with a stormy expression standing by the bed.

"Don’t test my patience."

Whether it was her provocative gaze that irritated his nerves or her current appearance—hair drenched, cheeks flushed, half-lying on the bed—that heated his blood.

A glimmer of heat rose in Yin Shao’s gloomy eyes, his expression deepening.

Momo frowned slightly. Seeing his gaze change, she hurriedly stood up.

"I’m hungry."

She patted her flat stomach, saying displeasedly, "I want noodles. Can you cook?"

Yin Shao’s half-narrowed eyes flickered with mixed hues. Looking at the girl standing on the bed, just slightly taller than him, her tiny expressions shifted from anger to annoyance with a touch of frustration, unintentionally tugging at a string in his heart.

Amazingly, all the anger dissipated.

"I can cook."

Just when Momo thought he would not agree, his deep voice with indistinguishable emotions sounded.

Momo nodded, "Add two eggs. I’ll change clothes and come down."

"Alright."

Yin Shao glanced at her, adding, "Our wedding is set for the tenth day of the lunar year."

"..."

Momo acted as though she hadn’t heard, pursing her lips, staring down at her feet sunk in the bedspread.

Her shoes had been removed when he threw her upstairs. On the way back, his stormy expression scared her.

At the moment he threw her onto the bed, she was truly afraid...

Yin Shao noticed she no longer threw a fit at the mention of marriage, his lips curling into a satisfied arc, thinking she’d abandoned all hopes of escape and accepted his arrangements.

After he left, Momo got off the bed to find clothes to change into.

As soon as she changed her clothes, a maid knocked on the door. She opened it to see the maid holding a new bed set, smiling politely, "Miss Momo, Young Master Yin asked me to change you into a dry set. Sleeping in the wet one easily catches a cold."

As she spoke, she glanced at Momo’s damp hair, "Your hair is still wet. Let me dry it for you."

Momo stepped aside, watching her skillfully swap the bed sheets and duvet cover, then declined the maid’s offer to dry her hair.

After the maid left, Momo thought about the wedding set for three days later, losing the mood to dry her hair.

Thinking about the past few days... her eyes involuntarily welled up.

She had tried every method she could think of, escaping dozens of times in just a few days, causing his subordinates to be on high alert at the sight of her.

Yet every time, that bastard dragged her back.

No one knew that each time she was caught, her fear grew, now engulfing her entirely.

He severed all connections with the outside world, erasing any traces she might have left as clues.

She finally understood why he had evaded capture all these years against Ye Zhan.

She was no match for him at all.

These days had passed, and apart from knowing Ye Zhan was out of life-threatening danger, she hadn’t heard a thing about him.

But whenever she thought of him, her heart still ached unbearably.

She was scared, increasingly petrified.

If he truly did something to her one day, she and Ye Zhan would have no future.

Besides the fear, she felt immense guilt towards her family.

She didn’t need to know the outside world to understand that her family was undoubtedly searching for her everywhere; her mother, already frail in health, burdened with worry for her...

As these thoughts carried on, tears fell.

Yin Shao, carrying a bowl of noodles upstairs, opened the door to see Momo sitting on the bed in tears, an unexpected pang seizing his heart.

He tightened his grip on the bowl, frowning as he strode in with a stern expression.

Momo heard the noise, took a tissue from the bedside table, and dried her tears.

He placed the noodles on the coffee table without calling Momo, sat down on the sofa, irritably rummaged for a cigarette, intending to light it, only to recall how two days ago she had brazenly told him to take it far away to light up.

He furrowed his brow and returned the cigarette to his pocket.

The noodles were what Momo had asked for; having barely eaten any lunch, she wouldn’t let her growling stomach suffer.

Approaching the sofa, Momo reached for the noodles, intending to sit on another sofa.

Unexpectedly, Yin Shao seized her hand, pulling her to sit beside him. If not for her instinctively bracing herself, she would have fallen onto him.

Momo’s face turned colorless, her breath faltering.
