Chapter 1333: Gene Class Harmony [Bonus]

Sylas’ gaze flashed.

This wasn’t as simple as he was making it out to be. The feeling had been so subtle that even with an E-Grade Taboo Bond, he hadn’t felt it at all while it was happening. If not for the {Empty} slots that appeared in his status screen, he wouldn’t know that this was happening at all.

In fact, Sylas had a feeling that the only reason he could feel it now was precisely as he had guessed: his body had evolved, allowing the loosening to become more obvious because he was naturally evolving toward a state where he could take in those Genes anyway.

That was to say that even if he focused on this now, it was hard to say just how much he would benefit—if he would benefit at all.

However...

[Madness Control (F-) (Growth Skill)](Progenitor Mastery)Your body is your temple and it listens to no commands other than your own. Now you have grasped a much deeper meaning of this truth. Feeling the very essence of Will and how it directs your body, you extend control from yourself much the same way you exert control over others.

[Talents: Adaptation]

It seemed that it was time for him to find a way to upgrade [Madness Control] again.

If he could craft it to get rid of all the weaknesses of his lower starting position, then there was no reason he couldn’t improve it even further.

However, this would likely be even more difficult by several orders.

This most recent upgrade was just getting rid of weaknesses while using the body’s natural processes. But this one would be trying to take advantage of the system and a Legendary Profession, all while pushing his body beyond what it was capable of.

One was just taking advantage of a template that already existed; another was trying to rewrite things to forge something new.

But Sylas... had already decided that that was exactly what he would be doing.

He clenched his fists. The fury of that day was still coursing through his veins, and he had no intention of allowing that flame to die down.

"What’s Gene Class Harmony?" Sylas asked.

"Pay up."

Sylas just casually did as he was told.

"A Gene Class Form is a free-flowing Skill that lacks structure, and it’s more so used like a martial art in battle. Its floor is far lower than a usual Gene Skill, but the ceiling is also much higher by extension. For example, your Glassvolt Prism Art basically allows you to use your Glassvolt Aether like weapons, armors, shields, attacks, defenses... basically free-flowing from any form you can think of mid-battle rather than requiring a specific Skill for each individual action.

"A Gene Class Harmony is a step beyond that. Its existence basically takes into account all of your Gene Class Forms in a single bundle, allowing you to free-flow between them all.

"For example, [Primal Gut], [Primal Step], and [Chaotic Menace] are all Gene Class Forms for your Chaotic Sovereign Gene Class and can usually only be used separately.

"[Primal Gut] allows you to digest high forms of energy and disperse it efficiently into your body for energy, strength, or improvement. How you use that energy is dependent on you, which is what allows it to be a Gene Class Form.

"[Primal Step] is a chaotic movement method that makes your movements unpredictable but also highly reliant on your bestial instincts. This causes your movements to be unconventional and harder to track. This can be parlayed into attack or defense, making your attacks more unpredictable or your body far harder to touch. This is what allows it to be a Gene Class Form.

"[Chaotic Menace] allows you to channel your power into your hair, your claws, your teeth even, making your body a true lethal weapon. That chaotic energy is especially good at breaking things down and forcing them to deconstruct beneath your influence. I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you how this makes it quite a free-flowing Skill as well.

"All of these Skills have their free-flowing nature in common, but they’re not actually meant to be used together, and as you know, casting multiple Skills at once is usually impossible.

"A Gene Class Harmony skips over that weakness. Basically, you can use all three Gene Class Forms at once. You could swallow an enemy’s attack with [Primal Gut], channel it into [Chaotic Menace], and slash from an angle they never see coming with [Primal Step]. There’ll be a seamless integration between all of your related Gene Class Forms.

"The better your Mastery of each one, the stronger the Gene Class Harmony will become. I’d probably advise you get on that soon. Honestly, you’ve been slacking. I can’t even remember the last time you improved the Mastery of a Skill. You’re more interested in using them like chess pieces in battle than actually improving them the way you should."

Sylas didn’t deny it. It was true, and also he didn’t care to anyway. His improvement had been too fast to focus too heavily on it, while he was more interested in improving his Rune Mastery.

But now, things were a bit different. He wouldn’t be able to reach the E-tier until he gathered the materials he needed for Tier 4 Eyes or improved his foundation enough that his Will wouldn’t eat him alive from the inside out.

So... the only immediate paths he had to improvement were either improving his Gene Class Forms or... [Madness Control].

Sylas took a breath and exhaled. Then he walked out.

...

The beaming sun hit his gaze, causing him to squint a bit. Something about the air felt refreshing.

"Hey, who’s this naked dude?"

Sylas looked over to see a young woman squinting down at him from the mountain cliffs above, looking more than a little bit groggy.

He wasn’t naked at all. Though, he wasn’t wearing much more than a pair of white linen shorts. But maybe she couldn’t see that considering her state.

"Wait, is that my junior?"

Sylas could hear Khan’s near-audible groan as though he could already see the future.

"Hey, hey! How about we spar a bit?!"

Gwenu didn’t wait for Sylas’ reply as she launched herself from above, her fatigue falling off in waves as she whistled through the air.
