Chapter 1560: Threats (1)

Chapter 1560: Threats (1)

Sylas landed, the scent of humid air hanging heavily on the wind.

Casstle Main was still in the depths of the Amazonian Wilds, and it could be said that the territory had truly become their own now, having undergone many changes since.

The irony of Sylas going halfway across the world to challenge the City of Glass was that barely a few kilometers from here was the location of the City of Gold.

However, the City of Gold was a completely different beast. The leap from Grade to Grade was anything but linear. If that was the case, given the strength of the City of Glass, there was no way the Grimblades of the past would have been able to claim a Bronze City Stele.

As exponentially more difficult claiming a Silver City Stele was compared to a Bronze one, claiming a Gold one was probably even more exaggerated.

It wasn't that Sylas alone wouldn't be a match for the threats that spawned, but that he wouldn't be a match for the sheer number of them there were not unless he had an army that could at least somewhat keep up with him.

If he wanted to be able to claim a Gold City Stele, he couldn't just be at a Gold Grade threat level, and maybe not even a Legendary Grade threat level would do. He would also need a sea of other Gold Grade threats with him.

The question, though... was if he could bend the rules by facing F-tier threats with E-tier support. In which case... that just might change things.

The moment Sylas opened the door to enter the Casstle Main City Lord Mansion once more, he was greeted by a chest rippling with more muscle than his own.

He indifferently looked up, finding Kael Darkmane standing there and his little sister sitting on one of his shoulders.

Sylas gave Elara a raise of his eyebrow.

"Don't judge me. I've been looking for a cute Mount."

Cute?

Sylas waved a hand, and Elara was grasped by a telekinetic wave she tried to break but ultimately failed to, landing in their father's embrace.

Kael's expression didn't change, but Sylas could see the shift in the depths of his eyes. The large man was practically an open book to Sylas' senses. So, Sylas could tell that he was a bit helpless in this situation.

Elara was nothing if not a troublemaker. But Kael had little idea about how Sylas would react to this situation.

A man with a great deal of power often had the most trouble controlling the women in his life. Or, more accurately, the women he actually cared for.

Elara was only coming up on her fifteenth birthday. If Sylas wanted to be enraged by her actions and take it out on Kael, he certainly could.

However, Kael had yet to grasp one thing.

Under usual circumstances, Sylas might raise an eyebrow at this. But Cassarae was here.

Kael was under the impression that no one in his family dared to stop Elara from causing a fuss because they were scared of his strength. But he had been so focused on Sylas and watching his battle that he hadn't noticed that there was a second person here who was also far more powerful than he was.

If Cassarae felt like something was wrong, she could have stopped it a million different times. Which was also why Sylas' gaze shifted toward her a moment after he assessed Kael.

"Why are you looking at me? She's at that age."

Sylas' expression remained unreadable.

"Alright, alright, I thought it would be funny to see how you'd react."

Sylas still kept staring.

Cassarae rolled her eyes. "Fine. I won't let it happen again."

Only after she said this did Sylas look back at Kael, who seemed to have realized what was happening as well.

"Why have you come here?" Sylas asked.

"Submission," Kael replied.

Sylas looked at him for a long while.

"Who are you?"

"Kael Darkmane."

Sylas recognized the name immediately. He had seen this name at the top of leaderboards again and again. If this man wasn't the best talent on Earth, he was certainly within the top twenty after factoring in other oddities like himself, hidden powers, and also non-Overlords.

However, Sylas also recalled that the Darkmane Ancestors were traitors. If not for his timely victory, and the actions of the system, the Darkmanes would have certainly succeeded in undermining the future of Earth.

That said... there had been traitors among the Grimblades as well.

The difference, though, was that Sylas knew the entire chain of command and responsibility in the Grimblades. By comparison, he didn't know the same in the Darkmanes.

"City Lady! There is a Thorne Ravenclaw here who would like to see you!"

Sylas' gaze flickered, and he let things proceed.

Soon, it wasn't just Kael before him, but a woman who was significantly smaller. In fact, it felt like Thorne barely came up to Kael's waist. She was small and wiry, but not in a malnourished sort of way.

She looked as though she had been shaped into the perfect special operative—an assassin in the dark with blades dotting her body. In fact, she reminded Sylas of Sunniva Ravenclaw, a woman that Nosphaleen had enslaved long ago.

"I can give you three minutes," Sylas said after a long pause. "Tell me why."

He didn't elaborate on what he meant by why. He left the sentence so open-ended they could have taken the conversation wherever they wanted.

Thorne, who had only come here on Kael's warning, froze, not knowing what to say. She thought she would just come, swear allegiance, maybe be sworn to pay some taxes, and that would be the end of it.

But what she hadn't considered was that most of the people on Earth were little more than liabilities to Sylas right

now.

Luckily for her, that was something that Kael had considered.

"There are three main threats to Earth currently."
