Chapter 1849: A Portion [Bonus]

Chapter 1849: A Portion [Bonus]

[Bonus chapter thanks to Patticus, Killerquaker, and Guardian of the Golden Sun White. I bet you all pissed with your pants around your ankles all the way through high school. I speak for the world when I say we are collectively disgusted with your kind] The Rat had not a single chance to escape now that he had willingly tied himself to the node of such a powerful formation.

It was like he had walked right into his own death.

Not only had he limited his strength in order to get onto Earth and claim the city, but he had tied himself to something he couldn't easily untie himself from.

Sylas carelessly tossed him forward, letting him tumble to the ground.

Then, he rotated and walked away.

The Rat laughed. What he wanted the most was right in front of him-why would he care about Sylas?

But as he tried to turn his head toward the statue, he found that his body wasn't listening properly.

"Hey! Hey! Come back here! Come back!"

Sylas directly ignored him and vanished into the darkness.

When Sylas appeared again, he stood above the Lord City of Greed.

There was no point in killing the Rat. If he did, the latter would just escape again.

He had originally planned on torturing and venting against the latter, but when he saw how pathetic the Rat was, he had no desire at all.

Such a strong individual, once again left as a waste. The only one of the Madness Disciples that didn't seem to have such obvious weaknesses had been Gluttony, but he bet if he had had the time to press on it more, it would have ended the same way.

He had once had such a healthy wariness of the Madness Disciples. But now...

The Sloth... the Glutton... the Rat...

Even Fanelei.

Every one was more pathetic than the last.

Others might feel that Sylas was being harsh. All things considered, the Rat was quite clever. As a lone man without a Clan as his backing, he had managed to worm his way onto Earth much like a Demi-God Clan had, or even Purvon who had the machine of Purvon and several pawns behind him.

Then he had learned from his mistakes, avoiding death when Sylas tried to use Zayreus. And obviously, those protections were still in place now, though different.

In order for the Rat to come here, he couldn't have been in the official capacity of his original Tier. He would have been too powerful.

Even the Angels could only send F-tiers. At best, if they weren't so arrogant, they could have waited until Xalor was an E-tier and then sent him.

So, the Rat was little different. He had to diminish his power quite significantly. But he had smartly gained numbers to use through the Lost City of Greed.

Because of the nature of the Lost City of Greed, the Rat had cleverly managed to find a way to use his Madness Seed to his advantage.

Unique Cities like this had spirits of their own. In their ideal world, they would choose the leader best suited to them. There was a reason the City of Glass took such a liking to Sylas.

In fact, if it wasn't for the fact Earth hadn't fully integrated yet, Sylas might have been able to directly take the City of Glass for himself.

Regardless, the Rat managed to take the city for himself and gained a layer of protection as a result. Reborn through the city, he was even technically a citizen of Earth now.

The scheme was exquisite to maybe all but Sylas.

To use the moment of Earth's advancement, timing the conquering of the city just right so that he could get lost in the shuffle. Now he had suddenly become a citizen of Earth-an Overlord of Earth, no less.

Like this, the Rat would be able to quickly recover his strength, and by the time he recovered to his original Tier, there would be nothing Sylas could do but die.

It was a cute dream.

Unfortunately for him, he hadn't accounted for one very important thing.

The matters he had spent centuries trying to find on Earth, Sylas had deciphered and understood in a matter of months.

Sylas had located the hidden legacy bloodlines of Earth, making it through the vast formation of oceanic currents present to protect it.

And now, he had used them to trap the Rat.

The logical step seemed to be to kill the Rat now, but Sylas wouldn't do that until he could ensure he wouldn't slip out from under his nose again.

As for why Sylas was so sure the Rat would have such a method...

'It's impossible that the injuries he faced from the system could have healed so quickly. There's only one way they could have...'

Someone powerful had healed the Rat.

No, to say they were powerful was a vast understatement.

Sylas had already experienced it personally. The stronger an enemy was, the more difficult it was to heal from injuries caused by them... And an enemy couldn't get much more powerful than the system itself.

So who had the power to do such a thing? And why did they have such a vested interest in the Rat surviving?

If the Rat had managed to expose the fact Sylas was a Madness Disciple, maybe this person would have already been willing to silently abandon the Rat. But the Rat had failed.

So now... the Rat remained the only easy method of exposing Sylas without this individual exposing their own knowledge of the matter, something that would surely put them in the line of fire as well.

There were better than 70% odds the Rat would have some sort of failsafe on his life, just like he had had when he avoided death at the hands of the system this time around.

But that much was fine by Sylas. He felt he would only dirty his hands by going out of his way to kill this man.

Instead, his anger would have to be satiated another way.

The universe insisted on continuously testing his bottom line. And now, not just one God Race, but apparently multiple were involved. Otherwise, what would explain Xalor and the Rat?

Did they think he was just a Mortal they could trample on whenever they so pleased?

The broadcast flickered back on as though it had never left, and all of a sudden countless Horizons were watching a single man standing calmly in the skies.

And then, Sylas shared a portion of his status screen for them all to see. It was a single simple action. An action that Sylas had learned was possible long ago thanks to Cassarae the day she shared her screen with him.

But now, this screen would be the reason two Heavens fell into complete chaos.

Sylas had run out of patience with his enemies.
