Chapter 2285: Underhanded
Chapter 2285: Underhanded
"Take control and organize everything." Sylas said to Cheri indifferently. "We don't have much time. 24 hours at most. Handle it."
Cheri didn't even quite understand what was happening. She still hadn't reconciled the fact she most definitely sensed Demonic Will coming from Sylas.
Now he was giving her such an important task? Why the hell was he so confident in doing that?
And how was he even still standing? If even she could tell, then the system definitely could. It should have wiped out his entire lineage for that alone.
Sylas didn't seem to be paying much attention to her any longer and Cheri could only stiffly begin doing as she was told. But as much as she knew about the Genesis Concord, she didn't know nearly as much about the Stormfall Covenant. Organizing the matters of the latter would be a lot more difficult.
But Sylas didn't consider that either. He left her alone and disappeared back into his ship.
'… Is he really that confident?' Cheri's hand shook.
She hated to admit it… but Sylas was right. She couldn't find the grit or determination inside of her to do what she knew she probably should.
Sylas was already not thinking about Cheri too much. Instead, he had gone to check on his parents.
Cedric smiled. "We are fine."
"Are we?" Isolde asked with a raised eyebrow.
Cedric cleared his throat. "Of course, I would never betray my precious Dede."
Isolde smiled as though this was all she wanted to hear. She was quite well aware that the Stormfall Covenant only had men in it, but it seemed she would be just as angry if her husband was just a man.
A smile tugged at the corner of Sylas' lips and he was even more sure of his goals.
No one should be allowed to place a wedge in the middle of his family like they had. The only people who should be able to dictate where their lives went were they alone.
And anyone who sought to take away the smiles of those he cared about should pay terribly for it.
BOOM.
Sylas' eyes narrowed as he felt the world shake around him.
'… It seems we have less time than I thought.'
Cedric's gaze sharpened and he looked around.
"What's going on, son?" Cedric asked.
"There's a very angry God somewhere now." Sylas said. "And they probably won't let things go as easily this time."
"Can they…?" Isolde didn't finish her words.
"No. They can't come down to the Demi-God Plane, not without severe penalties and probably years of preparation. If they weren't ready before, they definitely won't be ready to do it now. But this one probably has methods of interfering in some way."
Sylas realized that, logically speaking, he couldn't be the only one with a Profession that tied to the Beast Heaven somehow. With the status that Gentrixaul had, he almost certainly realized exactly how it was Sylas kept shifting from the God Plane and back.
The stronger you were, the more aware you were of the methods of the system.
Before, Gentrixaul had only lashed out because Sylas was too far away. But this time, he might try for a more direct method.
Right now, Sylas was only speculating. But, if, theoretically, there were any geniuses of the Demi-God Beast Heaven that had some inheritance, Profession, or connection that went back to Gentrixaul… There was a flicker in Sylas' eyes.
Nothing in the world came for free. Escaping two S-tiers was great, but now he would probably have a price to pay for that.
Last time, Gentrixaul had caused such a violent beast horde that Legacy leapt forward generations in their pursuit of the formation of the Gluttony Seed. And back then, Gentrixaul had only been trying to target the Mortal Plane.
After this last excursion, given the senses of a God, the World Serpent almost definitely knew that Sylas was in the Skai Heaven.
Sylas took a breath and slowly exhaled, a flash of death echoing in his eyes.
What was beautiful about Evolution Energy was that it was even cleverer than other methods of calculation the system had.
When Sylas' Dominus Paragon Title was important to him, for example, any loss, no matter of circumstance, to someone of the same tier meant losing it. By the same token, it was inversely unfair as well. You didn't gain much benefit from defeating others by cheating.
For Evolution Energy, one might expect that using tricks or underhanded tactics to defeat an enemy would mean receiving less Evolution Energy as well.
That was not the case.
One had to realize that Evolution Energy was the rawest form of Natural Selection in the universe. If you died, nobody cared if it was because you accidentally clipped your side and contracted an infection that wiped out your immune system, or if you were impaled by the tusk of a mammoth.
A death was a death. And to Evolution Energy, "underhanded" tactics was just another way of saying you outsmarted your opponent.
As far as the universe was concerned, intelligence was just as important as brawn. It was its own form of evolution.
That was all to say that right about now… Sylas had all the Evolution Energy from the deaths of over a hundred A-tiers and two S-tiers.
Even with how impossibly deep his foundation was, he had enough Evolution Energy to make it all the way to the pinnacles of the B-tier if all he cared about was raising his Tiers.
However… his Rune Mastery and Void Path were still at the D-tier and there wasn't anything he could do to progress it forward. He was just… Stuck.
But… just now… when he was crossing the barrier from the Demi-God Plane to the God Plane once again, he had felt something.
"I need a moment." Sylas said. This was the real reason he was letting Cheri handle everything.
He wanted to enter the C-tier now.
This power would be more important than ever very soon.
