Chapter 353: The Meeting [1]

Chapter 353: The Meeting [1]

Even without laying a hand on Geoffrey, his entire body was trembling in fear. The wet patch on his pants was slowly growing, and a foul stench hit the others, causing their noses to wrinkle.

Sophie frowned, visibly disgusted. She took a step back, and so did the others.

’Disgusting. Just a few hours ago, he was talking all high and mighty.’ A player sneered when he saw the embarrassing sight.

Geoffrey was never a combatant. He was an unawakened human, which made one wonder how he got to his current position as the butler of the second strongest individual in the eastern camp.

It was rather simple. He was once a manager to Dante during his underground fighting days. The two shared a bond similar to that of a father and son.

It was the reason Dante respected him and followed his orders without question.

Naturally, after he was approached by the big boss of the eastern camp, Geoffrey had tagged along.

And because he was someone Dante cared about, everyone in the base was forced to treat him with respect.

But if they were to witness his current state, even they would lose respect for him.

It was an embarrassment at the highest level. He genuinely wanted the ground to split open and swallow him whole.

Despite the irritating stench, Gabriel did not move back. He remained unaffected, his gaze boring down on the older man.

When Geoffrey’s eyes clashed with that blue pair, the last restraint on his emotions broke and he cried.

"Please don’t kill me?"

Gabriel’s eyes flashed. It was a good thing the butler was scared of death. Now he could get all the information he wanted without any hassle.

If the case had been reversed, it would have been much harder.

"You will remain alive depending on how well you handle my questions," Gabriel said with a calm expression on his face.

Even that calmness was eerie and alarming. Geoffrey swallowed nervously as he nodded far more times than necessary.

"Yes, I will comply. Please, just give me your word that you won’t kill me," he said.

Gabriel nodded. "I will not kill you."

There was a bit of emphasis on the I. Geoffrey frowned when he noticed it but did not think much of it.

"First question. Who is he, and who are you to him?" Gabriel asked calmly.

"I am his butler. My full name is Geoffrey Winston. As for him, his name is Dante Ironstone, a former underground fighter who was hired by the eastern camp. He climbed the rankings and became the number two man throughout the base."

The moment he heard number two, Gabriel’s eyebrows lifted ever so slightly. It did not go unnoticed by Geoffrey, who mistook it for fear.

’If I play my cards right, I might really survive this.’ he thought in his heart.

Meanwhile, Gabriel fell into deep thought. In truth, he had expected the eastern and northern camps to make a move on him after he killed Kairos and Bai Young, who seemed to be highly valued figures.

’Still, to think they would send their number two man.’ he thought.

Was he scared? The answer was no. He was simply curious as to why they sent Dante rather than someone else or an entire army.

"What was your initial plan for coming here?" he asked after a brief pause.

Geoffrey swallowed before replying. "A few weeks back, our brother camp, the northern base, was expecting a food and ammunition supply that was passing through this route. After waiting for so long, the supplies never arrived. A search was conducted, and we discovered that the supplies had been hijacked."

Gabriel remained quiet, even though he and his subordinates were responsible for taking the supplies.

"We did quick research. There was no other bandit camp around the area except this one, which we initially thought was still under Kairos and Bai Young. One thing led to another, and a fight broke out."

’A one sided massacre, you mean.’ Gabriel thought as the frown on his face deepened.

Geoffrey did not speak anymore from that point, not that Gabriel wanted him to. He could already see a vague picture of everything that had happened.

He imagined that Dante and Geoffrey had tried to force their way into the guild. Sniperbowlegend had stopped him, which caused the full blown battle.

"I did not know even humans were this violent," came a voice from the side.

Gabriel did not turn to look. From the voice alone, he could tell it was the Vampire Queen, the same one from floor one hundred.

She had been hovering beside him the entire time, invisible to others. Something Gabriel was very happy about, as he did not need to worry about explaining her presence to anyone else.

Naturally, he did not respond. It would have been strange for others to see him talking to empty air.

"Ragnarok99," Gabriel called out.

"Yes, Sir Broken!" the large muscular player replied, stepping forward.

"Take him away. I need him locked up," Gabriel said without looking at Geoffrey, as though he was not worth his gaze.

"You promised you would not kill me. What are you doing?" Geoffrey cried out, eyes wide.

"I am not killing you. Just locking you up. You are still very important to us," was the reply he got before he was dragged away.

With that taken care of, Gabriel returned his attention to the camp. Helpers were attending to the injured, while builders came out to fix the damaged wooden houses around the center where the battle had taken place.

Fortunately, the destruction had not spread beyond that area. Otherwise, more buildings would have been destroyed along with the people inside them.

With each passing moment, the anger in Gabriel’s chest continued to build.

Not the explosive kind.

The cold one.

The kind that settled deep and refused to leave.

He slowly scanned the camp. Broken walls. Crushed barricades. Blood stains that had not yet dried. Players sat on the ground with blank expressions, some staring at their hands, others clutching bandages while healers moved frantically between them.

Too many had nearly died today.

Too many had trusted that this place was finally safe.

His fingers tightened unconsciously.

"Bunny," he called out.

"Yes, Sir Broken!" she replied.

"Arrange a meeting. Inform all the core members," he said. His tone was extremely serious and left no room for questions.

"I will do just that," Bunny replied, a smile on her face.
