Chapter 385: Things Don’t Always Goes as Plan
Chapter 385: Things Don’t Always Goes as Plan
Gabriel stepped forward in front of everyone, standing just a short distance away from the entrance to the first class area.
The distance was large enough that the men stationed there did not pay them much attention.
"Alice and Anna," Gabriel spoke silently. "I need you to take care of those guys. You two are the only ones I can trust to get rid of them swiftly without attracting too much attention."
"Yes, master," Anna nodded.
"On it," Alice smirked as she stepped forward, her pair of gold ranked daggers obtained from the ruin expedition appearing in her grasp.
In total, there were five guards patrolling back and forth. A few were even chatting among themselves. The security was extremely relaxed.
Alice and Anna moved without another word.
They did not rush. That alone already separated them from amateurs.
To the five guards patrolling the entrance, nothing felt out of place. The area had been quiet for hours. No alarms. No disturbances. The higher ups were still inside their mansions, indulging in comfort while the camp prepared for war elsewhere.
This gate was important, yes, but important places often became careless when nothing ever happened there.
Two figures approached from the side.
One male guard noticed first.
"Oi, who are you two?" he called out lazily, one hand resting on his weapon without any urgency.
Alice stopped a few steps away, tilting her head slightly. Her expression was calm, almost confused.
"We were told to report here," she replied evenly. "Lady Lin Xueyi sent us."
Yes, she had cleverly decided to use the name of the martial cultivator she had met back in the warehouse.
At the mention of that name, the guard frowned, then glanced at his companions. Lin Xueyi’s influence carried weight even here.
"Report for what?" another guard asked, squinting as he looked them over.
Anna stepped forward half a step, her posture straight, her voice soft but firm. "Replacement duty. One of the squads was reassigned. Orders came late."
Her tone was flawless. Respectful and submissive. Exactly how a low ranking awakened under orders would sound.
The guards exchanged looks.
"Did you hear anything about that?" one of them muttered.
"No," another shrugged. "But things have been messy lately. Who knows, maybe they want to deploy us for the upcoming battle."
Alice sighed lightly, as if annoyed by the inconvenience. "If you want, we can go back and confirm. But Lady Xueyi did not seem very patient when she gave the order."
That did it.
Nobody wanted to be the one who delayed a command tied to someone who was among the strongest individuals in the camp.
Lin Xueyi was also known for leading squads that were mostly female, so the presence of the two women did not raise suspicion. Furthermore, the guards had been patrolling this entrance for hours already. They were naturally exhausted, and questioning further would only create unnecessary trouble.
"Alright, alright," the first guard waved a hand. "Just stand over there for now."
As he turned slightly, Alice moved.
Her dagger flashed once.
A thin red line appeared across the guard’s throat. He froze, eyes widening in confusion rather than pain. A second later, Anna was already behind him, one hand covering his mouth while the other blade slid cleanly between his ribs.
The body went limp before it could hit the ground.
At the same time, Alice pivoted. Her second dagger flew, not thrown, but guided with terrifying precision.
Stab.
It pierced straight into the eye socket of the nearest guard, the force snapping his head back as his body collapsed without a sound.
"What the—"
The third guard barely managed to turn before Anna was on him. Her movements were smooth, almost gentle. She stepped into his space, twisted his wrist, and redirected his weapon downward. Her knee drove into his abdomen, knocking the air from his lungs, and her dagger followed immediately after, straight into his heart.
That guard never finished the sentence.
The last two finally reacted. They raised their rifles, panic replacing the laziness in their eyes.
"Enemy—!"
Alice closed the distance in a blur.
She ducked under a wild swing, slashed once across the tendons of the man’s arm, then stepped past him as he screamed silently.
Her blade reversed grip and punched into the base of his skull.
The fifth guard tried to retreat.
That was his mistake.
Anna flicked her wrist. A chain snapped tight around his neck. He stumbled, clawing at it in horror as she twisted sharply, snapping his spine with a muted crack.
Moments later, five bodies lay scattered near the entrance, sprawled in their own pools of blood.
Alice exhaled softly and wiped her blade clean against a guard’s uniform.
Step. Step.
Gabriel calmly walked forward, stepping past the corpses as he entered the first class area.
When he did, it felt as if he had stepped into an entirely different world. The buildings here were brightly lit, the surroundings quiet and peaceful, a true display of luxury in the middle of the wilderness.
As he stared at the mansions, his eyes flashed with greed. Every single one of them was countless times better than the place he was currently staying.
"I know that look in your eyes," Sophie whistled, a knowing smile forming beneath her veil.
"You want it, right?" she asked.
Gabriel did not reply, which was all the answer she needed.
"Alright then," he said, turning to face the group. "We split from here. Just like the prior plan, we take down the core members of this base one after the other."
It had been confirmed that there were eleven Hero Ranks present.
The people who had infiltrated the enemy camp were Gabriel, Sophie, Bunny, Ragnarok99, Sniperbowlegend, Scarlet, Lily, Cassie, Anna, and Alice.
And of course, there was Serpahina, who could only be seen by Gabriel.
So far, it was still a miracle that they had not been discovered.
But Gabriel knew better than to rely on miracles.
The first class area was different from the rest of the camp. This was where the real power resided. Hero Ranks. Core officers. People whose perception and instincts had been sharpened through countless battles.
A single mistake here would not result in alarms or warnings.
It would result in death.
At that moment, Gabriel gestured for the group to move forward. But even before they took a step, they sensed the presence of several powerful existences.
Immediately, everyone stiffened, tightening their grips on their weapons and preparing their skills.
"I guess things do not always go as planned," Gabriel smiled bitterly as he looked ahead.
Because in the distance, several war tanks were already turning their cannons toward their direction.
