Chapter 388: A One-in-a-Thousand Prodigy
Chapter 388: A One-in-a-Thousand Prodigy
Seeing Gabriel standing there, smoke billowing off his clothes, Henry’s eyes threatened to pop out of their sockets.
"How did he... how did he?" Henry was beyond shocked. War tanks were feared for their destructive capability. They could flatten buildings, fortifications, and even entire streets with ease. Not even high ranking skills should be fully able to tank that kind of firepower.
This was evident from the destruction around the area where Gabriel had been standing.
Therefore, seeing him so unscathed was a massive shock not only to Henry, but also to the operators of the heavy war tanks and the surrounding soldiers.
Beside him, IceQueen bit her lips. There was no shock in her eyes. She had already foreseen this happening even before the attack began. After watching Gabriel escape death so many times, the leader of ChaosKnight did not think it would be that easy to take him out.
There was just a cold calmness on her face.
From the distance, after witnessing what had just transpired, Lin Xueyi shot a smug and mocking look toward her sister.
"I told you, you need to start believing when things defy common sense."
Lin Xiyumi did not respond. Her eyes were wide open. The martial artist had expected Gabriel to be turned into shredded flesh, yet there he was standing unharmed. There was not even a trace of blood belonging to him anywhere on his body.
She was more than certain that if the situation were reversed and she had been in his place, hero rank or not, she would have turned into nothing but minced remains.
"This... he must have a really powerful skill to be able to withstand this," Lin Xiyumi said slowly. "The skill should probably be far higher than elite tier. That’s the only way to explain it."
"You still don’t see it, do you, sister?" Lin Xueyi suddenly spoke with a quiet sigh.
"What do you mean?" Her sister turned toward her, her expression puzzled.
"Look closely, or in this case, increase the range of your perception," Lin Xueyi said calmly. "Can you gauge his level?"
Following her sister’s instruction, Lin Xiyumi nodded softly and spread her perception outward.
Moments later, she opened her eyes, her face turning as pale as a sheet of paper, as though all the blood had drained from it.
"Did you see it?" Lin Xueyi smirked.
"He’s just level fifty..." Lin Xiyumi gasped, her expression growing even paler.
If Gabriel had been in Tianlan, he would have been the kind of person referred to as a one in a thousand genius. As mentioned before, tanks were capable of killing even hero ranks, making them true game changers on the battlefield.
Finding out that someone at level fifty had stood still and taken a full barrage from heavy war tanks without a single defensive formation, without retreating, without even bleeding, completely shattered Lin Xiyumi’s understanding of combat.
Her fingers trembled slightly.
That was no longer a matter of talent or luck.
That was an outright violation of common sense.
Lin Xiyumi swallowed.
"If he were any higher level..." she muttered, her voice strained, "...this wouldn’t even be a fight."
Lin Xueyi let out a soft chuckle, her eyes never leaving Gabriel.
"That’s why I told you to start believing," she said quietly. "Some people don’t grow by following the rules. They break them."
Across the battlefield, Henry finally snapped out of his shock.
His breathing grew erratic as fear crept into his eyes for the first time.
"T Turn the cannons!" he shouted hoarsely. "Reload! Fire again! Don’t let him move!"
Gabriel clicked his tongue in annoyance. If Henry thought he would remain standing and get hit again, he was in for a rude awakening.
From his calculations, all his subordinates should have already made it back to the eastern entrance, past the unfinished mini city that was still under construction. That meant there was no need to tank more hits, even if he could.
Naturally, he could take in more shots, but that would affect his Guard Robe treasure as its durability would drop further. Not only that, Gabriel had felt the impact clearly.
There was a mild but heavy reverberation through his body. He was not some freak who would stand still and let himself be bombarded endlessly.
Furthermore, the most important thing of all was the camp itself. He had already staked a claim on it. He did not want to damage it completely, as that would eat into his future resources and reserves.
"The best place for this battle would be the outskirts of the eastern wall," Gabriel thought.
Right at that moment, the war tanks hummed once more, deeper this time, heavier, like beasts clearing their throats before a second roar.
Gabriel’s eyes flashed sharply. The moment the cannons adjusted their angle, he moved.
Boom!
The next volley tore through the air, shells screaming as they locked onto his position, but Gabriel was already gone.
To the naked eye, it looked as if he had simply blurred. That was how insane his agility stat was.
Bullets and shells ripped through where he had been standing a split second earlier, detonating uselessly against empty ground. The explosion swallowed the area in smoke and fire once more, but this time there was no figure at its center.
"Where is he?!" one of the operators shouted.
Before the words had fully left his mouth, a dark figure shot out from the smoke like an arrow released from a divine bow.
A shell grazed past Gabriel’s shoulder, tearing through the air close enough to shred his skin. However, he twisted his body mid sprint, boots crushing the ground as he shifted his trajectory by mere inches.
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
Another round followed, then another, then a full spray of heavy caliber bullets from the mounted turrets.
None of them touched him. To the soldiers watching, it was as if the battlefield itself was bending around him.
"He’s dodging them?!" someone yelled in disbelief. "At that speed?!"
Due to the intense noise from the tanks, Gabriel could not hear clearly, and even his vision was slightly impaired.
But none of that mattered.
He tightened his leg muscles and raced toward the eastern direction.
Each step cracked the ground beneath his feet. Dust and debris kicked up in his wake as his speed climbed higher and higher, his silhouette stretching into a streak of motion that made targeting him almost impossible.
Henry’s heart dropped into his stomach.
"CHASE HIM!" he roared. "Don’t let him reach the eastern wall! Move! Move!"
