Chapter 389: An Intense Chase: Serpahina’s Trap
Chapter 389: An Intense Chase: Serpahina’s Trap
At Henry’s words, the war tanks lurched forward, their treads grinding against the earth as they began to pursue. Turrets rotated nonstop, tracking Gabriel’s rapidly shrinking figure. Trucks and armed vehicles followed behind, soldiers hanging on for dear life as the convoy surged ahead.
FWOOOSH! BANG! BANG! BANG!
Gabriel felt his ears ring as volleys of bullets whooshed past him. Behind him, the war tanks moved at a rapid pace, bulldozing anything that stood in their way.
However, the speed of the vehicles compared to Gabriel was no different from snail pace.
Furthermore, he was moving in a zigzag pattern, which made it quite difficult for even the controllers inside the tanks to land a proper hit.
The only thing fast enough to threaten him was the explosive velocity of the tank shells.
Right then, another shell screamed toward him.
BOOOM!
Gabriel kicked off the ground, vaulting over shattered debris as the explosion erupted behind him, sending shockwaves rolling through the street.
The blast clipped his back this time, a violent tremor rippling through his body.
He winced softly as a mild ache spread through his muscles, a dull reverberation echoing through his bones.
He felt pain. Not real pain, but enough to remind him that he was not some mindless monster that enjoyed being bombarded for free.
More importantly, his Guard’s Robe was taking the hits.
The treasure’s durability was not infinite. Letting them unload endlessly would only wear it down faster, and he was not reckless enough to waste valuable assets when there was no reason to.
Right then, he suddenly took another step forward. A violent bang, like the sound of a cannon detonating, echoed as his body shot forward, covering about fifty metres at once. A mini dust storm erupted in his wake, blinding all his pursuers for a brief moment.
But that brief moment cost them dearly.
Because the tank operators had been firing when the dust storm suddenly appeared, they ended up destroying properties and killing innocent civilians.
"Fuck! Fuck, how is he moving so fast!" one of the operators cursed loudly, frustration evident in his voice. He had already destroyed several buildings and ended so many lives, yet the target remained unharmed. That meant all the casualties were nothing but waste.
’Lord Henry will be furious when he learns about this. He will definitely slash my next pay in half for this.’
The operator sucked in a cold breath as he pressed harder on the pedal, attempting to hasten the pace.
However, it was futile, as the target’s speed was simply too monstrous for anyone to give chase.
Vroom! Vrooom!
From his side mirrors, he saw vehicles closing in one after another. Swiftly, those vehicles overtook the war tanks, which was a clear signal for the tanks to stop firing.
"They are really persistent," Gabriel thought as he took a quick peek behind him, noting a total of ten trucks loaded with adventurers and players.
Unlike the war tanks, the trucks were much faster, but his current agility stat was far higher than any vehicle. Besides, there was another advantage to this. The constant shooting from the tanks had stopped.
There was something else.
He could sense at least two or three Hero Ranked individuals within those trucks.
Every other aura felt like flickering embers, but the Hero Ranks were like blazing furnaces, making them impossible to ignore.
Of course, he did not panic despite knowing this.
Furthermore, the unfinished mini city came into view in the distance, half built structures of steel and concrete lining the path. Beyond that lay the outskirts of the eastern wall, wide, open, and far from the core infrastructure of the camp.
A little more, and he would regroup before giving the eastern camp his all. But before then, a wicked plan suddenly formed in his mind.
Glancing to his side, Serpahina was there. She had been running beside him for quite a while, unseen by anyone but him.
"What... why are you looking at me like that?" Serpahina thought, frowning. Under different circumstances, he might have found it cute.
Gabriel did not answer immediately.
Instead, he glanced once more over his shoulder, his eyes calmly sweeping across the incoming convoy. Then he looked back at her.
"I need a blood rope."
Hearing him, she was confused at first.
"A... what?" she instinctively replied, then quickly caught herself. "You want me to restrain them?"
"No," he said calmly, already adjusting his pace. "I want you to stop them."
Serpahina’s eyes widened slightly. Stopping a moving convoy with a blood rope was something she had never attempted before. Doubt crept into her mind.
"Just trust me," he urged.
"...How thick?" she asked, biting her lip.
"As thick as you can make it," he replied without hesitation. "Anchor it between the unfinished buildings. Low enough for momentum to do the rest."
"Understood." She nodded, her expression hardening.
The next second, Serpahina slid to a sudden stop, still unseen by the enemies.
He did not slow down. Instead, he surged forward, drawing all eyes toward himself.
Behind him, she planted her feet firmly against the cracked asphalt. Her palms lifted, fingers trembling slightly as crimson mist seeped from her skin.
Thin streams formed first, twisting through the air before merging and thickening as she clenched her teeth, struggling to maintain focus.
The blood darkened and lost its shine, hardening into something dense and metal like as it vibrated under the pressure she forced into it. With a sharp swing of her arms, she hurled it forward.
FWOOOOMP!
The blood rope shot across the street and slammed into the skeletal frames of two half built towers. It wrapped around exposed steel beams and dug into unfinished concrete pillars before locking itself in place. It stretched and trembled for a moment, then stabilized, hovering just above the ground.
Sparing a glance at the blood rope, which was as thick as a man’s torso and partially obscured by dust, she quickly ran to catch up.
"Now what?" Serpahina asked as she reached him, noticing that he had suddenly slid to a stop.
"Let’s watch," he said with a smirk, looking into the distance.
There, completely unaware of the blood rope ahead, the convoy increased their speed to the maximum.
