Chapter 394: The Eastern Camp Vs Broken Dawn [1]
Chapter 394: The Eastern Camp Vs Broken Dawn [1]
When the blood rope snapped, the sound echoed far and wide. It was so loud that everyone, including the non Awakened regular refugees, heard it, and it startled them.
As for Henry and his subordinates who were observing everything, they flinched back in shock, thinking that the cursed rope was about to lash out at them once again.
At the same time, Seraphina’s eyes snapped open. Her face was extremely pale, like that of a corpse, and her chest was rising and falling rapidly.
Gabriel did not need to ask any questions. Based on her appearance, he already knew that her mana was completely exhausted, which meant that the gold rope that had been holding back the enemies was no more.
Because the others could not see Seraphina and it would look strange if he spoke to empty air, the two of them stood at the front of the eastern entrance while the rest of his subordinates remained several feet away.
Since Gabriel was facing the entrance, the others did not notice his lip movements.
Step! Step!
A series of footsteps approached from behind, followed by a voice that Gabriel recognized as Scarlet’s.
"Do you have any idea where that sound came from?" she asked.
"Yes," Gabriel nodded. "It was a little trick of mine that trapped the enemies for a while. However, now that it is gone, we should be expecting movement from them at any moment."
Gabriel did not bother lowering his voice. It was loud enough for everyone to hear, and when they did, all one thousand fighters sucked in a deep breath, feeling a mixture of adrenaline and fear.
They could not really be blamed. The eastern camp far outmatched them in every aspect one could think of. Numbers, base, ammunition, every single advantage was on the enemy’s side.
The enemy was heavily armed with advanced weapons crafted by skilled mechanics, while the majority of Broken Dawn had nothing but swords, spears, crossbows, and magic skills.
Those were effective, no doubt, but the disparity was still terrifying.
Right now, cold feet began to set in, and thoughts of retreat crept into their minds. Even though they had people like Gabriel, Sophie, Seraphina, and a few others, the enemy also had powerful individuals, maybe even more.
That thought alone made their scalps tingle.
Of course, this reaction was mostly shared by the natives of this world. The otherworlders, also known as players, remained calm. In fact, a few of them were even excited, like Ragnarok99.
Ragnarok99 stood among them with a wide grin plastered across his face, his eyes shining with anticipation as if he were about to watch a show.
One of the NPCs saw him and could not help but click his tongue in anger as he whispered under his breath, "It must be nice to be immortal. Look at him smiling with no care in the world."
Another NPC scoffed quietly. "Of course he’s relaxed. Even if he dies, he comes back. What about us?"
"Gone. Never to return. But these otherworlders... it’s like everything is just a video game to them. They don’t care about whatever happens."
To the NPCs, that excitement felt like mockery.
With perception even higher than several Hero Rank individuals, Gabriel easily heard their murmurs and the resentment coming from the NPCs.
His expression remained neutral. If this were the past, he would have been reckless and filled with excitement just like the players were, but this version of him was different.
Gabriel remained standing at the front, his posture straight and his grip steady. On the surface, he looked calm, almost detached, but his mind was working nonstop.
He understood the fear spreading among the NPCs. After all, he was one of them.
Although this was a game for the others, this was his reality. To him and the other NPCs, there was no respawn point. No second chance. If they fell here, that would be the end. Their bodies would rot on this land, their names forgotten, and their families left behind with nothing but grief.
If he showed even a hint of doubt now, the line would collapse before the enemy even arrived.
"The fear is spreading," Scarlet spoke. "That is not good for people who are about to fight."
"I know," Gabriel replied quietly.
Sophie also approached, her gaze sweeping over the fighters. "If they charge us all at once, many will break formation."
"That’s expected," Gabriel said.
She frowned slightly, confused. "Then why aren’t you stopping it?"
Gabriel finally turned his head slightly to look at her. "Because fear doesn’t disappear when you tell people not to be afraid. It disappears when they see something stronger than it."
Sophie went silent. She opened her mouth to speak again, but at that moment, a deep rumble echoed across the land. Without a doubt, it was the roar of engines and the heavy movement of the approaching enemy.
Heads snapped toward the entrance.
Dust began to rise in the distance.
The silhouettes of armored vehicles slowly appeared, their outlines growing clearer with each passing second.
Gulp! Gulp!
Badump! Badump!
Some swallowed hard.
One man’s hands were shaking so badly that his spear rattled against the ground.
Seeing this, Gabriel turned around to face the crowd of one thousand men. It was a simple movement, but it drew the attention of everyone present.
In a clear and deep voice, he spoke loudly. "Listen carefully. You are afraid because you think this is a fair fight. However, it is not."
Some people looked at him in confusion.
He pointed toward the approaching vehicles. "They have weapons. Numbers. Armor. But they also have fear. They saw me stand in front of their tanks. They saw their weapons fail. They saw the destruction the blood rope caused. They watched us infiltrate their home without being detected."
He lowered his hand. "They are moving now not because they are confident. They are moving because they are angry, scared, and worried. Worried because they do not know our true strength."
That sentence hit harder than any loud speech. Almost like magic, the terrified faces of the Broken Dawn members slowly shifted into expressions of determination. Their heartbeats steadied, their blood began to boil, and a hunger far greater than fear ignited within them.
"You do not need to be braver than them. You only need to put your faith in me and believe me when I say this."
He turned back toward the approaching vehicles. In a cold, calm, and confident tone, he added,
"This place will be the graveyard of our enemies."
