Chapter 410 410: Completing the First Class Advancement Quest
Chapter 410 410: Completing the First Class Advancement Quest
Henry's order spread instantly. Powerful auras flared to life across the battlefield as figures began moving, some leaping from rooftops, others charging through the smoke and rubble, their killing intent locking onto Gabriel like predators sensing wounded prey.
Gabriel felt it immediately. The pressure closed in from every direction, and his smile faded as his eyes narrowed slightly.
"Ah, this is going to be tough," he muttered, more annoyed that he would have to fight in his current state rather than worried about losing his life.
Was it possible for him to die in this fight? Yes, highly likely, especially in his current condition. Was he scared that he might die? The answer was a resounding no. And lastly, did he believe that he would come out on top just like he always did? He did.
Gabriel tightened his grasp on his greatsword, his attention focused on the most powerful aura among the four approaching presences.
Even among hero ranks, not all of them were the same. Some were far more powerful than others. Out of habit, and experience, Gabriel instinctively sought out the strongest enemy on the battlefield, keeping his focus on the hero rank with the most profound and oppressive aura.
Standing beside him, Seraphina bit her lower lip, her gaze flicking around as she sensed them too. Fast, coordinated, and precise, exactly what one would expect from experienced hero ranks. She did not hesitate any longer. Before Gabriel could even think about charging into battle, she stepped in close, wrapped an arm around his shoulder, and leaned in.
Her fangs sank into the side of his neck.
"…"
Gabriel's body stiffened for a split second, a sharp intake of breath escaping him, but there was no pain. Instead, a strange cold heat spread from the point of contact. His blood surged, not draining away, but cycling back into him in a twisted exchange. Her vampiric energy forced vitality back into his exhausted body while stealing her own strength in return.
His trembling legs steadied. The numbness in his arms faded. The crushing weight in his chest eased just enough for him to breathe properly again. It was not a full recovery, but it was more than enough.
Seraphina pulled back slowly, her breathing slightly uneven now, her face pale as she wiped a thin line of blood from her lips.
"Don't get the wrong idea," she said softly, her expression stoic, just like the first time Gabriel had met her. "This just means I'm not letting you die before things get interesting. Plus, if you die, I die."
Gabriel reached up and touched his neck briefly, then looked at her, understanding clear in his eyes.
"You're going to be weak now," he said.
Although Seraphina was invisible to most people and not fully corporeal, able to pass through walls like characters from fantasy stories, she could still be killed by stray attacks or if someone managed to sense her presence and strike her directly.
She shrugged lightly, though the movement cost her more than she let on.
"Then protect me," she replied.
A low laugh escaped him as he straightened fully, the greatsword pulsing once more in his hand, its presence responding to his renewed state. Around them, the approaching hero ranks closed in, their shadows cutting through the smoke and fire.
Gabriel lifted his gaze, his expression calm once more, dangerous and steady.
"Looks like round two," he said quietly, planting his feet firmly on the ground, his grip tightening.
One might wonder why there were only four presences when there were a total of six hero ranks left in the eastern camp. This was because the remaining two hero ranks were none other than Henry and Dominic, who had yet to join the fight.
The sound of hurried footsteps reached him before the auras fully closed in.
Sophie was the first to arrive, sliding to a stop beside Gabriel. Her chest rose and fell rapidly, but her eyes were sharp and focused as she followed his gaze toward the approaching presences. Without saying a word, she positioned herself slightly to his left, close enough that their shoulders almost touched.
She was followed by Scarlett, who walked calmly and positioned herself to Gabriel's right, her weapon already in hand.
Then Alice appeared right after her, a cocky smirk plastered on her face.
Finally, two figures landed lightly in front of them.
It was Lin Xueyi and Lin Xiyumi.
Gabriel raised a slight brow when the two appeared before him unannounced. He had already noticed them on the battlefield and had even been looking forward to meeting them, but he did not expect them to approach him now, right in the middle of the battle.
Lin Xueyi took a confident step forward first.
"My name is Lin Xueyi, and this is my sister, Xiyumi. As you were already told, we were once part of the eastern camp. However, we have severed all ties with them, and we now formally introduce ourselves as your allies."
She nodded toward her sister, and the latter, who had been sneaking glances at Gabriel for the past few seconds, placed a hand on her chest and spoke.
"We pledge our loyalty to you for this battle. We will stand against the hero ranks of the eastern camp."
"These cultivators are so dramatic," Alice commented in a barely audible voice that only she could hear.
Gabriel glanced at the sisters, studying them carefully, then nodded.
"Alright then," he said, his voice slightly hoarse. "As long as you remain loyal and work hard, you will be handsomely rewarded and given a high position in my faction."
Without waiting for a reply, he looked past them and spoke again.
"You four, focus on only two of the hero ranks. Do not get dragged into anything else. I will handle the rest."
"Gabriel," Sophie started, instinctively reaching out.
"Two hero ranks," Alice muttered, her eyes narrowing. "You're insane."
Even Xiyumi blinked in surprise, while Xueyi's gaze sharpened with interest rather than doubt.
"I'm not doing this because I want to," Gabriel said calmly. "I'm doing it because I have to. If I want to complete my class advancement and finally break free from the shackles restraining me, then this is the only way."
