Chapter 411: Completing the First Class Advancement Quest [2]
Chapter 411: Completing the First Class Advancement Quest [2]
Without a doubt, the toughest requirement in Gabriel’s first class advancement quest was surviving a battle against multiple hero ranks.
And in a way, it could be said that this was what had been holding him back all this while, because hero ranks were not entities you could easily come across down the street.
Hence the reason Gabriel wanted to use this opportunity to finally fulfill his requirement by facing two hero ranks, which would count as battling multiple hero rank enemies.
After he explained this to the others, they understood why he was adamant about his decision and did not push further, even though Sophie was clearly worried about him. She knew he was strong and that he could fight a hero rank, as he had done the same thing during the Inter Guild Display Event.
However, there was a difference between fighting non intelligent enemies like beasts and intelligent beings like humans.
While one relied mostly on instinct and raw power, the other fought with intent, tactics, coordination, and cruelty.
Humans adapted mid fight, exploited weaknesses, retreated when needed, and struck when an opening appeared. A hero rank was not just strong, they were experienced, and that experience alone was deadly.
Gabriel understood that better than anyone.
That was exactly why he could not let this chance slip.
The four remaining hero ranks did not rush Gabriel like rabid beasts eager for a kill. There was no reckless charge, no arrogant leap meant to overwhelm him in a single exchange. Instead, they circled him gradually.
Though Gabriel appeared weakened, the destruction he had caused was still vivid in their minds, so they did not dare take any chances, immediately cutting off all possible escape routes.
Gabriel saw through their actions and clicked his tongue. These were not mindless soldiers who attacked based on instinct. They were cautious, largely because the surprise element from earlier was now gone.
They knew he was a threat and treated him like one.
Right at that moment, the first hero rank stepped forward, crushing fragments of rock left behind by Gabriel’s earlier attack beneath his heavy boots.
His aura spread outward in wide waves, heavy and oppressive, pressing down on everything nearby.
This was a magic type hero rank, specifically a gravity skill user, the kind that did not need to swing a weapon, as they could easily immobilize or crush their enemies with sheer pressure alone.
Gabriel felt it immediately in his legs, a subtle resistance that made even standing still take effort.
To the left, another presence flickered and vanished, so fast that if not for his sharp senses, Gabriel would have completely missed it. He did not need to see the enemy to know what kind of opponent this was. The faint displacement in the air, the way the smoke parted for just a split second before closing again, and the sudden spike in killing intent that came and went all pointed to the same thing.
An assassination type hero rank, one that specialized in speed and precision rather than raw power.
Behind them stood the third, a large shield resting firmly in his grasp. His sturdy build and choice of armor made it obvious that he possessed a defensive type class.
And lastly, the fourth.
The fourth hero rank possessed the most violent aura of the four. It surged and pulsed erratically, crackling with raw energy that distorted the ground beneath him.
An agility type class, Gabriel’s eyes flashed.
These were the kind of hero ranks that existed to end fights in seconds if given the chance, making them extremely troublesome opponents.
However, despite the visible threat they posed, Gabriel did not let it show on his face, maintaining that signature calm and composed expression.
"Positions," he spoke calmly. "Remember what I said. Take two, leave two for me."
All four ladies nodded without hesitation. Sophie moved first, vines erupting from the ground as she slid backward and to the side, already shaping the terrain around her.
Scarlet followed without a word, her steps light, weapon raised, eyes locked onto the gravity type hero rank as if measuring his strength with her gaze alone.
"Alice," Gabriel said, his gaze never leaving the two strongest auras in front of him. "Left flank. Lin sisters with you. Isolate one."
Alice nodded seriously. "On it."
Lin Xueyi and Lin Xiyumi moved together, their footwork synchronized without discussion, as if they had done this countless times before. It was subtle, but anyone experienced could see it.
Sophie and Scarlet engaged the gravity type hero rank, forcing him to divide his attention away from Gabriel, who had been the initial target. In fact, all four hero ranks had originally locked onto Gabriel, as he was the biggest threat on the Broken Dawn side.
"Clever," the gravity user clicked his tongue in annoyance as he frantically tried to handle both Scarlet’s sword strikes and Sophie’s deadly vines that were clearly out for blood.
Not too far away, Alice and the Lin sisters vanished into the smoke toward the defensive hero rank, clearly aiming to pull him away from the main engagement.
That left Gabriel facing the remaining two hero ranks.
The assassin and the agility type, a deadly combination on their own and even more lethal when working together with coordination and timing.
Gabriel cracked his neck, locking gazes with the two who were measuring him carefully. From their expressions alone, it was clear that despite being higher ranked than Gabriel, they were still wary of him.
Seeing this, Gabriel smirked, his blue eyes gleaming with a mischievous light that left his opponents unsettled.
He did not wait for the first strike. Gabriel stomped the ground with all two hundred plus points of his total strength. The earth caved beneath his feet as his body shot forward and then vanished from where he stood, leaving behind nothing but a sunken crater.
"What?" Both hero ranks widened their eyes in shock.
"I thought this guy was already weakened. How the hell is he moving so fast?" the agility type hero rank muttered as he snapped into motion.
Gabriel’s feet barely touched the ground as he twisted mid step, his perception stretched to its limit as he tracked fluctuations in the air around him.
FWOOOSH
A blade appeared inches from his neck.
Gabriel twisted sharply, feeling the steel skim past his skin instead of piercing it. He retaliated immediately, not with a wide swing, but with a short and brutal elbow strike aimed backward, forcing the assassin to disengage rather than risk a direct hit.
...
On the rooftop, Henry’s gaze remained fixed on the battlefield below, unblinking. The smoke, the fire, the shattered terrain, none of it mattered to him anymore. His eyes were locked onto a single point, onto Gabriel, onto the way the young man continued moving despite unleashing an attack that should have left him immobilized or completely drained of mana.
Henry’s fingers curled slowly into his palm, digging into flesh.
He is too calm.
That thought refused to leave his mind. Gabriel should have been desperate by now. Slower. Sloppier. Anyone who had bled that much and poured that much power into a single sequence should have been gasping, retreating, clinging to allies.
But Gabriel was not retreating. He was advancing, pushing back against two fresh hero ranks who had only just joined the battle.
Henry narrowed his eyes, his mind racing through possibilities. Was it a bluff? Was Gabriel burning the last of his strength to intimidate them? Or was there something else he had not accounted for yet, some hidden reserve or twisted method of recovery that had never been reported?
Of course, little did he know that the reason Gabriel was still going strong was because of Seraphina.
Below, the battle continued uninterrupted!
