Chapter 414 414: Defeating the Hero Rank!
Chapter 414 414: Defeating the Hero Rank!
Scarlet descended behind the gravity user with lethal intent. She dropped fast, her blade already angled for a finishing strike.
The enemy realized too late that she had completely evaded his defenses. In a frantic panic, he tried to twist around and reinforce his failing gravity shield to cover his back.
But Scarlet's strike came faster and with greater precision than he could counter.
Her sword struck true, slicing through the weakened barrier as if it were paper. The blade carved through the man's shoulder, sending a flood of blood spraying outward. In a single devastating sweep, Scarlet severed the gravity user's right arm at the shoulder.
"Aghhhhh!" The man screamed as his arm hit the blood soaked ground, fingers still twitching uselessly. The shock and massive injury shattered his concentration completely. His localized gravity field collapsed instantly, the oppressive aura vanishing as the mana sustaining it dispersed.
Freed from the crushing weight, Sophie seized the moment.
"Devouring vines!" she shouted, already thrusting both palms forward. With the gravity pressure gone, Sophie could wield her full power. Mana surged through the earth at her command without resistance.
BOOOM!
Monstrous flaming vines erupted violently from the ground around the wounded enemy, even more numerous and aggressive than her initial attack. Each vine bore jagged, tooth filled maws that snapped hungrily as they coiled around him. Several plunged their teeth into his abdomen, while others wrapped tightly around his legs and remaining arm, binding him completely.
The gravity hero rank found himself utterly immobilized in an instant, his eyes widening in alarm.
Scarlet did not hesitate. She stepped in and drove her sword forward in a precise thrust. The immobilized enemy could not even turn to defend himself as the blade pierced cleanly through his back.
The crimson tinted tip of the sword erupted from his chest a heartbeat later, slick with blood. Scarlet withdrew the weapon with a single sharp motion, slicing through vital organs on the way out.
At the same moment, Sophie's vines unraveled and withdrew from the man's body. The gravity user released one final, choked gasp, eyes wide with disbelief. He had never expected to be dealt with so easily.
For a brief second, he remained standing, swaying as if sheer will might delay the inevitable. Then reality caught up to him. His eyes slowly closed, and he collapsed forward.
Scarlet flicked her sword to the side, casting off droplets of blood, then scanned the fallen enemy to confirm the kill.
[Ding, you have killed a hero ranked existence!]
[Ding, you have received experience points!]
Dismissing the system notification that obstructed her view, she turned to Sophie.
Sophie was breathing heavily, one hand pressed against her side. Her ribs had been fractured while enduring the gravity pressure, but she met Scarlet's gaze and gave a firm nod to show she was fine.
Both women had sustained only minor injuries from a fight that would have killed lesser combatants. Thanks to their coordination and the enemy's severe underestimation, they had emerged victorious.
"Good work," Sophie panted softly, acknowledging that Scarlet's timely assault had likely saved her life.
Scarlet nodded and replied matter of factly. "You have improved compared to before. We make a good team."
Sophie's face flushed red. How was she supposed to explain that all of this progress was because of one person, someone she had pushed herself relentlessly for in recent months?
"Well, it's nothing." She forced a smile. "He was too full of himself. He would have died anyway."
Indeed, the gravity hero rank had been feared in the eastern camp due to his skill and reputation, but from the moment the engagement began, his defeat had been inevitable. He simply had not realized it.
Around them, the air returned to normal as the last remnants of the gravity field faded. One of Henry's elite champions lay dead in the dirt, while Sophie and Scarlet remained standing.
Scarlet spared only a moment to confirm Sophie's condition before turning her attention back to the battlefield in search of their next objective.
They had won this skirmish, but the larger battle raged on. Broken Dawn and the eastern camp were locked in brutal combat, teeth for teeth and blood for blood.
The battlefield was filled with data particles from fallen otherworlders, mingled with screams and blood.
It was a truly chaotic scene. Bodies dropped on both sides like flies.
In the distance, the two women spotted flashes of steel and surges of fierce energy that they recognized as spirit qi.
"Alice and the Lin sisters," Scarlet said, recognizing the fighting styles immediately.
Sophie followed her gaze and saw it too. Their comrades were still engaged with another of Henry's so called heroes, this one wielding a massive shield.
Without exchanging another word, Sophie and Scarlet sprinted toward the fight, moving in silent unison.
The shield bearer was a hulking man clad in heavy plate armor, a hero ranked warrior wielding a tower shield and a battle axe. On paper, he outclassed any one of the women facing him. In reality, he was struggling.
Lin Xiyumi and Lin Xueyi flanked him from either side, their coordinated attacks keeping him constantly off balance.
Each sister moved with synchronized precision born from countless hours of training together. Their teamwork acted as a force multiplier that no amount of raw strength on his part could overcome.
The shield hero roared and swung his massive shield in a wide arc to the left, intercepting Lin Xueyi's incoming qi palm strike.
The shield collided with the qi projection, sending sparks flying. He pivoted immediately, using the momentum to slam the shield toward Lin Xiyumi. She disengaged a split second before impact, the shield slicing through the space she had just occupied.
Despite his rage, the man fought with discipline. He conserved his movements and kept his guard tight. From the front, his defense was nearly unbreakable, the massive shield covering his body and nullifying direct assaults.
However…
