Chapter 415 415: Another Heroe's Death

Chapter 415 415: Another Heroe's Death

Despite his rage, the man fought with discipline. He conserved his movements and kept his guard tight. From the front, his defense was nearly unbreakable, the massive shield covering most of his body and nullifying direct assaults.

However, covering two agile opponents at once was taxing even for someone of his rank. Each time he focused on one sister, the other pressed an attack from the opposite side. Small cuts and dents were steadily accumulating across his armor where their blades had struck.

He had not noticed that Alice had circled around behind him amid the fray. While the sisters engaged him head on, Alice moved like a shadow at his back, patiently waiting for a decisive opening.

As Lin Xiyumi leapt backward to avoid a vicious chop from the man's battle axe, that opening finally came. The instant the hero's focus shifted toward Xiyumi, Alice sprang forward from behind.

Her dual daggers gleamed in the smoky light as she drove them toward two weak points. One blade stabbed at the gap beneath his raised arm, while the other targeted the back of his knee where only chainmail protected the flesh.

The first dagger screeched off a steel side plate, failing to penetrate the armor beneath his arm. The second, however, found its mark. Alice felt the satisfying give as her dagger sank through the chainmail behind his knee. She drove it deep, severing muscle.

"Arggbhhh!"

The shield bearing hero bellowed in pain, lurching forward as his left leg buckled from the sudden injury. His massive frame wavered, and for the first time, panic crept into his posture.

Sensing vulnerability, the Lin sisters immediately moved to press their advantage. Even wounded, however, a hero ranked fighter was still dangerous. Snarling in rage, the man retaliated with a blind backhand swing of his great shield.

Alice had already begun to spring away, but the edge of the heavy shield still caught her side with bone jarring force. She instinctively rolled with the impact, yet it was enough to send her tumbling across the blood soaked ground. She winced as she came to a stop, her breath momentarily knocked from her lungs. A hit like that could have broken ribs if not for her heavy defensive attributes and reinforced armor.

Lin Xiyumi grit her teeth at the sight of Alice being struck, but instead of crying out, she turned her concern into action. With Alice temporarily down, the sisters wordlessly adjusted their formation.

Xiyumi rushed forward head on, drawing the enemy's attention with a ferocious charge, while Xueyi vanished into the hero's blind spot on the opposite side. Channeling a surge of spirit qi, Xiyumi's sword took on a soft blue glow, an aura technique that enhanced her speed and striking power.

Fwooom!

She closed the distance in a blur. At the last moment, Xiyumi feinted high before thrusting her blade toward the narrow visor slit of the man's helmet, aiming to blind him.

The shield bearer reacted purely on instinct, exactly as she anticipated. Rather than leave his face exposed, he hauled his great shield up to protect his head. Xiyumi's sword clanged against the thick metal with a resounding crash, the impact strong enough to force the towering man back a half step.

The maneuver dealt no direct damage, but it served its purpose perfectly. His focus was now completely locked onto Xiyumi's feigned strike, leaving his lower body exposed. It was the opening Lin Xueyi had been waiting for.

Already in motion from the flank, Xueyi slid low along the ground on the man's injured side. She released a sharp breath and swung her blade in a precise horizontal arc.

A red tinged aura flared along her sword's edge as it sliced cleanly through the back of his damaged knee.

She deliberately targeted the exact spot Alice had stabbed seconds earlier, shearing through what remained of the tendons. There was a sickening snap followed by the wet sound of muscle tearing apart. With both legs crippled and one knee completely ruined, the so called hero rank's stance finally collapsed.

The armored giant let out a choked cry as his leg gave out beneath him. He crashed down, one knee slamming into the ground while the other refused to support his weight. Immobilized under the burden of his own heavy armor, he was unable to rise.

In only a few seconds, the coordinated assault of the sisters and Alice had dismantled his defense. What had once been an impenetrable bulwark was now a wounded and faltering target.

By this time, Alice had recovered from the shield strike. She was bruised but far from out of the fight. Steadying her breath, she prepared to reenter the battle when she suddenly heard a soft whistle nearby.

At first, the assassin was confused about its source. Then she glanced toward the left flank of the battlefield and spotted a familiar figure. A man with a bow was kneeling on one of the thick branches of a massive tree positioned at the outskirts of the camp.

The trunk was enormous, easily wide enough to conceal a person, and the branch supporting him was just as sturdy. Perched there was Sniperbowlegend. As a long range fighter, he could not engage in close combat like most members of Broken Dawn.

That was why he remained hidden among the branches, silently taking out enemies from afar and focusing solely on targets that posed the greatest threat on the battlefield.

Alice needed no explanation to understand what the otherworlder intended to do. Although she wanted to deliver the killing blow herself, as experience points were awarded based on participation, she only gave a brief nod. More than anything, she wanted the defensive type hero rank with absurd endurance to be finished already.

Without saying another word, she stepped aside.

Sniperbowlegend had already begun condensing mana into his arrows while Xiyumi and Xueyi executed their combination, wasting no time.

Now the opportunity was perfect. The hero ranked man was down and struggling, his attention split between pain and the two martial artists flanking him. He never noticed the archer preparing to strike.

With a calm exhale, Sniperbowlegend drew back the bowstring, his mana infused arrow humming with lethal intent as he took aim.
