Chapter 449 449: Gabriel's Insane Endurance

Chapter 449 449: Gabriel's Insane Endurance

Gabriel saw the bold system screen on his retina, and suddenly he did not feel sore or weak anymore. A smile appeared on his face.

The advancement quest had been one of the things stalling him from breaking past level 50. It was a bottleneck that would have taken others years to complete. However, he had done it in a span of a couple of months, which was still considered long for some gamers.

Even so, he was not too far behind compared to most NPCs and players who had started around the same time as him. Most were currently around level 55 or even higher. Progress from level 50 upward required a significant amount of experience points to level up.

Fortunately for him, all the experience points he had been farming even after hitting the threshold of level 50 had not gone to waste. They had been stored instead, which automatically made up for the lost time.

In a way, one could say he was ahead of others, but his progress had simply been withheld for the time being.

'With what I remember, my health reserve should increase after the class advancement.' Gabriel thought silently to himself.

Thus far, his health points had been capped at 100.

He had always known that having only 100 health points was a weakness he could not ignore.

At lower levels it was manageable, but after level 50, where enemies hit harder and battles lasted longer, that number felt dangerously small. One clean strike from a strong opponent, a critical hit, or a surprise ambush could push him to the brink.

Because of that, he had built his entire fighting style around brevity. He relied on agility, positioning, and burst damage to end fights quickly before they dragged on, avoiding unnecessary clashes.

'This HP increase better be worth it,' Gabriel smirked.

As for the other class advancement rewards, one of them was an increase in his total skill slots.

For unranked existences, they were limited to only ten skills. With the advancement, there would be an increase in the number of skill slots. This was mainly one of the reasons those who had completed their class advancement were stronger and more versatile.

Right as he was going through his thoughts, a voice sounded beside him.

"What are you thinking about?"

For a moment, he was slightly startled, almost forgetting about the existence of Seraphina, his vampire partner.

"Nothing much. I just completed my class advancement quest," he replied, shifting his attention back to his retina.

"Oh, that is nice," Seraphina spoke, though her voice clearly lacked humor. The excitement was obviously feigned.

"You are still thinking about it?" he asked, dismissing the screen. By that, he meant the situation with Dominic.

"I will be fine," she said. "Like you said, we will find another way. I trust you."

Before he could respond, she continued, "Why do we not leave my identity matter for the meantime and focus on your class advancement?"

"Oh, okay," he nodded, leaning back into the crystal clear water, glad that she was trying to move past it.

"And also," Seraphina suddenly added, "just a heads up, this might be painful."

He frowned. "How do you know that when you lost your memories?"

"I witnessed one of the vampire knights go through it," she replied calmly.

"Well, I know it is going to be painful," he said between gritted teeth, "because I have been through it before."

To make sure no one disturbed him, he informed Anna to stay outside, even if he ended up screaming. She was worried at first, but after he explained about his class advancement, she visibly calmed down.

After that, he returned to the luxurious bathroom and entered the bathtub again.

He settled deeper into the tub, the clear water reaching his chest as he lifted his hand and reopened the system screen without hesitation. His eyes stayed steady as he selected the option to proceed with his class advancement quest.

Immediately, his muscles tightened all at once, and a sharp force spread through him from head to toe. It felt like his bones were being crushed and forced back into shape. The pain came fast and heavy.

His back arched slightly, and his fingers dug into the edge of the tub as his breathing grew rough.

Seraphina straightened at once, her calm expression shifting just enough to show concern as she stepped closer.

"It is starting," she said quietly, watching him closely.

The pain did not ease. Instead, it grew worse. His shoulders trembled. His jaw locked. His entire frame shook as if something inside him was breaking and rebuilding at the same time.

The water around him remained clear for a few seconds before thin dark streams began leaking from his pores. His veins stood out against his skin as heat rushed through him. The pain intensified, spreading down his spine and into his legs, making his muscles spasm.

Seraphina's eyes widened slightly at the sight, her surprise clear even though she tried to remain composed.

"Gabriel…" she called softly, seeing the dark impurities mix into the pristine water.

The once clear bath slowly turned cloudy, then darker, as more waste was forced out of his body. His teeth were clenched so hard that blood trailed from the corners of his mouth and ran along his cheeks.

But he did not scream. Not even a whimper. He held it in, even as his body trembled violently under the pressure.

Minutes felt longer as the pain continued without mercy. His grip never loosened, and his breathing came out in sharp bursts while the water turned almost black.

Then, just as suddenly as it began, the pressure faded. His body went limp.

He collapsed back against the tub, panting heavily, his chest rising and falling fast. The dark water settled around him and gave off a terrible stench that made him wrinkle his elegant nose.

It was quite astonishing that his body contained so many impurities. The more he advanced, the fewer toxins remained in him.

While he was still gathering his breath, bold letters appeared in front of his vision.

[Congratulations. You have completed your class advancement.]
