Chapter 464: An Established Lord

Chapter 464: An Established Lord

For a few seconds the room fell quiet again except for the soft sound of papers moving. Outside the large office windows the eastern camp could be seen expanding slowly. Workers were constructing new buildings while patrol units moved along the walls. Even from this height the organized activity was obvious.

After horrendous hours of going through paperwork which had been carefully prepared by Arnold, Gabriel was finally done and slumped back in the chair.

He finally took off the glasses and placed them on the table so hard that they cracked. He did not give it much thought and simply shrugged it off.

His back ached terribly after remaining in one posture for five days.

"Fighting is definitely easier than this," he said to no one in particular. "I am never doing this again."

"Hahahah. I am very sure that Arnold the human is preparing more documents. Do not get tired yet. You still have a lot to do," Seraphina commented.

Gabriel sank further into the chair, clearly contemplating his life choices.

Seeing this side of him was refreshing to Seraphina. On the outside he had always projected a cold and ruthless exterior, a wall that his subordinates could look up to.

But deep down he was just like everyone else. He simply needed someone he could be completely free with so that his inner child could reveal itself.

Seraphina subconsciously wished this moment would last for months without any fighting, just daily work and quiet moments.

However, even with her incomplete memories she knew that this was not possible in this world. Excluding the fact that Broken Dawn already had several enemies, the world itself was also infested with monsters.

Sooner or later trouble would come knocking on their doors and Gabriel would have to enter battle mode again.

What she did not realize was that this sooner was far closer than she thought.

"Right. There is something that has been bothering me for the past couple of days," Gabriel said as he suddenly sat up straight.

"What is that?" the vampire queen asked.

"My lord level is still at Beginner even though I have clearly passed the required threshold," he said while pulling up his system screen.

"My total population including the first main camp comes out to one hundred and two thousand. The requirement to advance from Beginner Lord is only ten thousand residents," Gabriel explained while looking at his status screen.

"That is strange. You should have passed that already," Seraphina said with a slight frown. "Or could it be that the system made you lord of two separate bases?"

"That... I do not think that should be the case," Gabriel replied while shaking his head.

Seraphina tilted her head slightly but did not interrupt him again. Gabriel rarely spoke unless he had already begun thinking through the problem.

The system window remained open in front of him.

[Lord Title: Beginner Lord 102,000 / 10,000]

Effects:

Grants authority to establish and govern a territory.

Unlocks Lord Domain. Claim and register land as your settlement.

Unlocks construction of Lord Hall, the heart of your domain.

Passive aura Lord Presence grants plus five percent morale and plus five percent combat efficiency to all subordinates within five hundred meters.

Followers gain plus five percent strength when inside the territory.

For every one hundred followers the lord gains plus one to all attributes. This scales automatically as population increases.

Gabriel rubbed the back of his neck slowly as his body adjusted after sitting for so long. His spine cracked slightly as he straightened.

"My population already passed that," he said calmly. "Not barely. I passed it more than ten times over."

Seraphina leaned one hip against the desk.

"Then something else must be wrong," she said.

Gabriel did not answer immediately. Instead he slowly scrolled through the interface. His eyes moved through several tabs one by one.

Then he thought of something random.

"System, combine the population of the first and eastern camps."

He said it casually, not expecting the system to actually respond.

As if reacting to his thoughts, a notification suddenly flashed in front of him.

[Ding! Do you wish to merge the Eastern Camp and Broken Dawn base together?]

Gabriel straightened slightly in his chair as the notification appeared again. When he saw it, his eyes lit up.

For a moment he simply stared at it.

Seraphina noticed the change in his expression immediately.

"You found something," she said.

Gabriel nodded slowly.

"It looks like the system has been counting them as two separate domains."

He did not waste any more time thinking.

"Yes."

The confirmation appeared instantly.

[Ding! Merging territories...]

[Ding! Eastern Camp and Broken Dawn Main Base successfully unified.]

[Ding! Recalculating total residents...]

A short pause followed.

Then the next notification appeared.

[Ding! Confirmed Residents: 102,000.]

The system remained quiet for only a moment before another chain of notifications appeared.

[Ding! Requirement for Beginner Lord exceeded.]

[Ding! Title Advancement Initiated.]

Seraphina crossed her arms as she watched the screen.

"So it really was that simple."

Gabriel remained silent.

Another notification appeared.

[Ding! Title upgraded.]

[Ding! New Rank Achieved: Established Lord.]

Gabriel leaned slightly forward.

A new window opened automatically.

[Lord Title: Established Lord 102,000 / 1,000,000]

New effects:

Administrative Authority

The lord may now appoint cabinet members and up to three official deputies. Deputies gain limited authority to manage camps, assign tasks, and issue orders within the territory.

Territory Stability

Morale bonuses within the domain increase from five percent to eight percent. Efficiency bonuses also increase to eight percent while inside the territory borders.

Population Growth

When territory stability remains high, new survivors are more likely to migrate toward the lord settlement.

Seraphina read the last line and gave a small whistle.

"So the camp will slowly attract more people on its own now."

Gabriel nodded once as the screen faded away.

"That will make expansion easier," he replied as he pushed the chair back slightly and stood up, stretching his shoulders again. The stiffness from sitting for days still lingered, but his body was already adjusting.

He fixed his eyes on the next requirement needed before he could advance again.

One million residents.

That was a large number.

But was there really anything Broken Dawn could not achieve?

"It should not be hard," Seraphina smirked as she sensed his thoughts. "All you have to do is conquer the northern camp and the gap will be covered."

"That is the goal, but we still need a lot of preparation," he replied.

Just as he finished speaking, a knock sounded on the door.

Knock. Knock.
