Chapter 466: Dominic’s corpse (Fixed)
Chapter 466: Dominic’s corpse (Fixed)
"One is missing," Gabriel said, a frown appearing on his face.
Anna’s eyes widened. "It cannot be. I made sure to count all the corpses. If one is missing then I should have known."
Although Gabriel’s expression was composed, Anna knew that this was a big issue. If a corpse was missing it meant that someone had sneaked in here without her notice.
She hated this because it made her feel as if she was not competent enough.
Anna’s thoughts spiraled quickly. If a corpse had disappeared from the basement then it meant someone had entered the mansion without being detected.
For someone whose duty was to watch over Gabriel and the household, that was unacceptable. Her hands tightened slightly at her sides as she looked around the room again, her gaze moving across every frozen block as if the missing body might suddenly appear if she stared long enough.
"I checked them carefully when I placed them here," Anna said, her voice lower now. "I froze them myself. I counted twice before leaving."
Seraphina leaned against the nearby stone pillar, arms crossed as she watched the situation unfold. Her sharp red eyes scanned the room as well, but unlike Anna she did not appear worried.
"Then either someone entered here and took a corpse," Seraphina said calmly, "or her counting was wrong."
Gabriel suddenly raised his hand and face palmed. The sound echoed lightly in the quiet basement and immediately drew the attention of both women. Anna blinked in confusion while Seraphina lifted an eyebrow.
He remained silent for a moment before lowering his hand.
Gabriel sighed quietly. "The corpses are not missing."
Anna and Seraphina both stared at him in confusion.
"What do you mean it is not missing?" Seraphina asked in a voice that only he could hear. "There are clearly fewer bodies here."
"Master, are you sure about what you are saying?" Anna asked.
Gabriel looked slightly annoyed with himself. "Yes. Because I took one earlier."
Anna blinked. "You took one?"
He did not answer immediately. Instead he simply stepped forward and spoke calmly.
"Grizzlenaut."
The moment the name left his mouth the stone floor beneath him trembled as something forced its way out from below.
A massive red spectral bear slowly rose from the ground. Its huge body emerged piece by piece until it stood fully inside the basement. The creature’s electric blue eyes glowed faintly in the darkness and in its claws it carried a corpse.
Dominic’s body.
The corpse looked almost exactly the same as when he died. His armor was still intact and his wounds had not decayed at all. It was clear the body had been preserved wherever the bear had kept it.
Anna stared at the massive creature and then sighed in relief.
"So that is where the missing corpse went," Seraphina said dryly.
Gabriel walked forward and took a quick look at Dominic’s body to confirm it was still in good condition. Then he nodded slightly.
"Good."
He raised his hand and gestured once.
Grizzlenaut immediately obeyed. The massive bear slowly lowered Dominic’s corpse onto the stone floor beside the other frozen bodies. Once the corpse was placed down it straightened its large frame and looked toward Gabriel again.
He gave a small nod. The bear slowly sank back into the ground the same way it had appeared.
The basement returned to silence.
Seraphina rubbed the bridge of her nose. "You made the girl panic because you forgot that you buried a corpse with your summon."
Gabriel shrugged and muttered under his breath, "I have been working nonstop for days. You cannot blame me."
Anna looked embarrassed as she lowered her head. "I am sorry, Master. I thought someone had broken into the mansion."
Gabriel shook his head. "No one entered. It was my fault."
He then stepped toward the first frozen corpse and placed his hand over the ice. The system reacted immediately.
A faint screen appeared in front of him.
[Do you wish to extract the level 100 corpse? Cost: 55 EP]
"Yes."
The moment Gabriel answered, a new screen appeared, this time detailing the available options.
[+30 Strength]
[Gale Step Skill Scroll (Elite)]
[Memory Fragments]
He glanced over the options quickly. The stat increase meant nothing to him anymore. His current attributes were already far above most awakened fighters. Adding thirty more points would not change much.
Furthermore he still had about nine hundred free stat points which he had yet to distribute. Those stats alone would easily make him stronger than any Hero Rank out there.
Right now his goal was not to empower himself but rather his subordinates. They were the true backbone of his guild.
As such he decided to take the Gale Step skill scroll.
[Gale Step
Rarity: Elite
Description: Allows the user to burst forward at high speed for a short distance.
Cooldown: 10 seconds]
Gabriel selected the skill scroll without hesitation.
The screen flickered once.
Then the frozen corpse beneath his hand slowly crumbled into gray ash that scattered across the stone floor.
At the same time a small glowing scroll materialized in the air before gently dropping into his hand.
He caught it calmly and glanced at the description again for a brief second before storing it away.
Anna watched the process carefully, her eyes filled with curiosity. Even though she had already seen Gabriel use extraction before, the process still looked strange to her.
"So the body simply disappears after the extraction?" Seraphina, who was seeing it properly for the first time, asked quietly.
Gabriel merely nodded.
"That ability of yours is quite useful," she said with some amazement.
He ignored the comment and moved toward the next frozen corpse.
He placed his hand on the block of ice.
The system responded immediately.
A screen appeared before him.
[Do you wish to extract the level 100 corpse? Cost: 55 EP]
"Yes."
And just like that Gabriel would use the rest of the night extracting the corpses one after the other.
