Chapter 467: Extracting Dominic [1]

Chapter 467: Extracting Dominic [1]

Although Gabriel had said his main goal was to empower his troops, he still decided to keep two corpses from the total of eleven aside for his personal use.

One might wonder why there were only nine corpses instead of ten, excluding the Lin sisters. The reason for this was because there was still one hero ranked enemy left alive.

The reason there were only nine corpses in the basement instead of ten had nothing to do with extraction. During the earlier battle Seraphina’s Blood Rope attack had struck two hero ranked enemies at the same time. One of them had died instantly, leaving behind a corpse that was now lying frozen in the basement.

The other had survived.

That hero ranked enemy had been severely injured and captured instead of killed. Even now he was still unconscious somewhere in the mansion while slowly recovering from his wounds. Gabriel had deliberately chosen not to execute him yet because a living hero rank could still be extremely useful.

As for the corpses he had set aside, they were those of Henry and Dominic.

From the seven remaining corpses Gabriel did not proceed slowly anymore. If he were to go through each one carefully the process would drag on for too long and there was no need for that. The system options appeared quickly each time he touched a body and Gabriel only spent a few seconds glancing at them before making a decision.

One of the corpses produced a skill crystal called Iron Fortress Stance, a defensive ability that allowed the user to anchor their body in place and greatly reduce incoming damage for several seconds. Gabriel immediately kept it for one of the shield users in the camp since it would allow them to hold the front line during monster waves. Another corpse yielded a weapon known as the Storm Fang Spear, a long spear with a wind based core that increased thrust speed and allowed the wielder to release a short ranged wind burst with every third strike. Gabriel nodded slightly at that one because it would be perfect for Damian’s squad who relied heavily on spear formations.

The next extraction produced something that made Anna blink in surprise. A pair of black boots appeared on the floor with faint runes carved into the sides. The item was called Phantom Step Boots, equipment that increased movement speed and allowed the user to briefly disappear from sight when performing a sudden dash. Gabriel looked at it for a moment before storing it away since scouts and messengers would benefit greatly from such an item when moving between camps.

Another corpse dissolved and left behind a small silver orb known as the Battle Recovery Core. This item could slowly regenerate stamina and heal minor wounds during combat as long as the user kept it on their body. It was not something that would turn a weak fighter into a monster, but it would greatly increase the survival rate of anyone who fought on the front lines for long periods. Gabriel placed it together with the other treasures without hesitation.

Seraphina watched quietly while leaning against the pillar, her red eyes following the steady rhythm of the extractions. After the fourth body disappeared she spoke in a calm tone.

"You are building quite a collection."

Gabriel answered without looking at her.

"These things are wasted on corpses."

The fifth corpse produced a heavy weapon this time. A massive two handed hammer materialized on the floor with a dull metallic sound. The weapon was called Earthbreaker Hammer and it possessed a simple but effective ability. Each time the hammer struck the ground it could release a shockwave that knocked enemies off balance. Gabriel tested the weight briefly before storing it away since he already knew several fighters who preferred heavy weapons.

One person that came to mind was BrawlerX.

"I wonder what happened to that kid," he thought, but the thought was only fleeting as he went back to what he was doing.

Anna stared quietly at the growing pile of items before Gabriel stored them. She had seen Gabriel grow stronger many times before, but witnessing the extraction ability directly still felt unbelievable.

Finally the last corpse vanished in a faint flash of light and left behind a slim curved blade. The weapon was called Silent Fang, a lightweight sword designed for speed and precision. It increased attack speed and reduced the noise produced when striking, which made it ideal for assassins or stealth fighters.

"That brat Alice," was the name Gabriel thought about, but who knew, he might hand it over to another assassin type fighter in his guild.

Gabriel then stepped back slightly and looked toward the two corpses that remained untouched on the floor.

Dominic.

Henry.

Although Gabriel had clearly stated that most of the extraction rewards would be used to empower his subordinates, he had still deliberately set aside two corpses for himself. The reason was simple. Among the eleven enemies that had died during the battle, these two were the most valuable.

Seraphina already understood that much.

She looked at the two remaining bodies and asked calmly, "Saving the best for last?"

Gabriel nodded slightly.

"Yes."

Anna glanced between the two corpses with curiosity but did not speak.

Gabriel then moved forward again. His steps stopped in front of Dominic’s corpse first.

For a moment he simply looked down at the body.

Dominic had been one of the strongest enemies they fought during that battle and his abilities had caused serious trouble before he was finally defeated.

Seraphina crossed her arms while watching Gabriel closely. Even she seemed slightly curious about what extraction from a hero ranked vampire enemy would produce.

But Gabriel did not touch the corpse yet.

Instead he turned his head slightly and looked toward the final body lying a short distance away.

Henry. The man who had once worn golden armor and believed himself untouchable.

Gabriel’s gaze moved between the two corpses briefly as if deciding which one to extract first.

In the end, after a moment of calculation, he decided to start with Dominic’s corpse first.
