Chapter 486: Unknown Attacker[1]
Chapter 486: Unknown Attacker[1]
The moment the killing intent appeared, Gabriel’s body reacted before his mind did. His muscles tightened, his skin prickled, and every instinct in his body screamed danger.
Gabriel was both shocked and curious because this was the first time in a long while that he had felt a killing intent as powerful as this.
Usually, he would have remained completely calm because of his Undead Heart skill, but he could not help but wonder how this person had gotten so close to him before he noticed.
What was worse, he felt that if he did not move out of the way, then he might just die right here and his story would come to an end.
"Burrow Shift!" Gabriel mumbled under his breath.
The moment Gabriel sank into the ground, a sword pierced through the space where his head had been. The blade smashed through the glass wall, and the entire window exploded inward as glass shards flew across the room.
Following the attack, an annoyed voice echoed in the seemingly quiet hotel room. "Tsk tsk, that was close."
The voice did not sound angry, only annoyed, as though they had expected the target to dodge, which was largely true because they had done their research and knew he was not a target they could easily get rid of.
That attack was merely testing the waters.
Crunch!
The sound of crushed glass echoed as a tall figure stepped forward. The figure’s gaze was obscured by shadow, and even their body shape made it quite hard to tell if they were male or female.
"Hm, where did he go?" the figure spoke, not even trying to conceal their presence, which was a very bold move and spoke volumes about the person’s confidence.
Suddenly, the figure halted and turned around. Standing there was Gabriel in his White Phantom mask. He appeared as calm as ever.
"There you are," the figure chuckled.
Gabriel did not make a move yet, simply observing. He did not see a player name or health bar. Yes, they could choose to switch that feature off if they wanted to, but the feeling this person gave was different.
They were not a player. Gabriel could swear it. Besides, he had been keeping track of all the players thanks to the player ranking. Based on the ranking, he could tell that there was currently no player who should be able to threaten him.
With all this ruled out, the only conclusion was that this was an NPC. But who?
"Are you going to attack me, or will you just watch?" the figure smiled mischievously.
"Of course. I was just observing my visitor," Gabriel replied, stepping forward, his feet crushing the glass shards.
"Who are you?" he asked. After seeing some hesitation, he added, "Or would you prefer I beat the answer out of you?"
Gabriel’s voice was filled with a disgusting level of confidence, as if he was certain of his words, which caused a smirk to appear on the figure’s face.
"Hehehe, the info was right. You are truly cocky," the figure chuckled, now turning fully toward him. "I hope you keep your words."
The moment those words escaped, the figure blurred forward like a tempest, causing the air to ripple. The resulting shockwave caused the glass fragments to rise up, suspended in the air.
At the same moment, the pair of Gold ranked Dragonfang swords appeared in Gabriel’s hands, the blades giving off a faint glow as if they had been waiting for a fight like this.
Clang! Bang!
Their swords met in the middle of the room. A loud bang exploded from the point of impact, and a visible shockwave spread outward, shattering the remaining glass and pushing everything away from them.
The assassin was thrown a few steps back, clearly shocked even though their face was hidden. They flexed their arm once, then again, as if trying to get the feeling back. The impact had numbed their sword arm.
Gabriel stood where he was and slowly lowered his sword.
"If I had distributed all my stats," he said calmly, "you wouldn’t have an arm left."
The assassin did not reply immediately. Their earlier cockiness disappeared and their posture changed. They no longer looked relaxed. Instead, their body lowered slightly and their grip on the sword tightened. Then without a word, they shifted back and suddenly charged forward again.
But this time something changed.
Right as they moved, their body split.
One became two.
Two became four.
Four became eight.
In just a second, dozens of assassins filled the room, all moving at the same time, all holding swords, all giving off the same pressure and the same level of strength.
They rushed Gabriel from all directions.
Gabriel did not panic. He did not even move from his spot immediately. He raised one sword and blocked an attack from the left, then turned his body and kicked another clone away. A blade came from behind and he leaned forward, letting it pass over his shoulder before cutting that clone down.
Even though he was holding back and using limited strength and skills, the pressure from dozens of clones still pushed him back slightly. His feet slid across the floor as he blocked and countered again and again. The room was filled with the sound of blades clashing and bodies disappearing as clones were destroyed.
Still, more kept coming.
"Interesting," Gabriel muttered.
One clone attacked from the front while two attacked from the sides. Gabriel stepped back, then suddenly moved forward instead, his swords flashing as he cut down three clones in a single motion. The moment those clones disappeared, four more replaced them, rushing in without fear.
Gabriel continued destroying clone after clone, but because he was limiting himself, he was slowly being pushed backward across the room.
The assassin clones kept attacking without stopping, trying to overwhelm him with numbers.
Suddenly, Gabriel stopped moving, then raised both swords and, without saying a word, activated the swords’ inner skill.

Thanks to all those that support God Tier Extraction Talent. I really appreciate it. Another Chapter will be up in a few hours. The good news is I only have two papers left for my exams. That means I can go back to two Chapters or even more a day.
