Chapter 487: Unknown Attacker [2]

Chapter 487: Unknown Attacker [2]

Just to clear the air, the MC is not being nerfed. The White Phantom persona requires him to use fewer skills to avoid being traced to Broken Heaven. That is why most of the time he depends on speed and swordsmanship. That is what I meant by limiting himself.

The Twin Dragonfangs suddenly glowed brighter, and the sound of a low dragon roar could be heard from the blades. Gabriel swung once, then again, then a third time in rapid succession. Each slash released a dragon shaped shockwave that shot forward across the room.

The shockwaves tore through the clones instantly.

One wave destroyed a line of clones while the second wave wiped out another group trying to flank him.

The third wave swept across the room and erased the remaining clones almost instantly.

In just a few seconds, the dozens of clones were completely wiped out, leaving the room quiet again.

The only person who remained was the assassin.

They were standing at the far end of the room, their body slightly shaking. Beneath their feet was a wet patch on the ground. It was quite easy to tell what it was.

Gabriel looked at them and smiled. "Are you going to talk no"

Even before he could finish his words, the hair on Gabriel’s neck tingled for the second time that night.

Whoosh! Fwoosh!

"Another assassin!"

He shifted his entire weight to the left just as an arrow arrived and whizzed past his cheek, almost grazing him and drawing blood.

The arrow struck the ground and exploded on the spot, releasing green toxin into the air.

In that split second, the first assassin had regained their bearings and moved out of the way. They jumped through the broken window and tried to flee.

Gabriel clicked his tongue in dissatisfaction. Naturally, he did not stay there. He needed to know who his attackers were and why they had chosen to attack him.

Like a shadow, Gabriel leaped out through the broken glass. The building was over twenty floors high, and as he descended, a strong gust of wind almost blew his mask off.

Bang!

He crashed onto the concrete rooftop with a loud bang, but his body remained straight as he stood up immediately as if the fall meant nothing.

Fwoosh! Fwoosh!

The air whistled sharply as a series of arrows came raining down on the spot where Gabriel had just landed.

Bang!

With a stomp that contained his two hundred plus strength stat, and with Bull Rush subtly activated, he shot forward, escaping the arrows easily and landing on another building as he gave relentless pursuit to the assassins who were now running out of breath.

That archer would be the most troublesome one. As he ran, Gabriel thought, lifting his gaze slightly to scan his surroundings.

He did not know if the archer was using a concealment skill or something else, but it was quite difficult to find them.

As for the assassin in front, they were slowly running out of breath, their face growing paler with each passing moment.

"Damnit, he does not seem like he would give up anytime soon." The assassin’s face scrunched up as though they had swallowed a bitter pill. Their legs were trembling and slowly becoming numb.

As they pushed off for another jump, a loud crack suddenly echoed. Their leg bent the wrong way, and their balance collapsed instantly.

"Fuck!"

Their eyes went wide with horror as their body tilted forward.

Eyes closed, they waited for death. From that height, they knew there was no way they would survive if they hit the ground like that.

But the impact never came. A hand grabbed them just as their body went over the edge.

The assassin’s eyes snapped open in shock. They were hanging in the air, their arm caught by a firm grip. They looked up and saw the white mask staring down at them.

Gabriel had caught them just as they fell.

For a split second, the assassin looked confused, then their expression twisted into something strange. They looked both relieved and frustrated at the same time.

Gabriel did not say anything. With one arm, he yanked the assassin up with force and threw them back onto the rooftop. The assassin rolled across the concrete and slammed hard before stopping near the edge.

They coughed and tried to push themselves up, but their legs were already shaking too much to support them.

Gabriel walked toward them slowly. "Are you ready to talk now?"

The assassin looked up at him, breathing heavily. Then, to Gabriel’s surprise, the assassin suddenly started laughing.

"You... you saved me," the assassin said, still breathing hard. "I thought I was dead."

Gabriel said nothing and just looked at them.

The assassin shook their head slowly as they continued. "Funny. Really funny. I am happy I am alive... but I am also unlucky."

"Unlucky?" Gabriel asked.

The assassin gave a tired smile. "Yeah. Because who would have thought. You would be the one to catch me."

Gabriel’s eyes narrowed slightly behind the mask. "I obviously did that because I want to ask questions. I honestly do not care about your worthless life."

The assassin looked at him for a few seconds, then laughed again weakly. "You really are as scary as they say."

"Who sent you?" Gabriel asked, going straight to the point.

The assassin opened their mouth to speak, but the words never came.

Everything happened at once, so fast that even Gabriel could not react.

Fwoooosh!

A sharp sound cut through the air.

Before the assassin could say a word, an arrow shot across the rooftop and pierced straight through their head, pinning them to the ground instantly.

Blood spread across the concrete as the assassin’s body went limp.

For a moment, everything went quiet.

Gabriel slowly turned his head toward the direction the arrow came from. His expression was neutral.

Gabriel’s grip on the Twin Dragonfangs tightened slightly. He was clearly angry now. Not because he failed to catch the assassin, but because someone had just erased a piece of information right in front of him.

They never intended for the assassin to survive if they got caught. The archer was there to act as both support and to finish the assassin if they failed. Very efficient.

He stepped toward the edge of the building and looked into the distance.

On a distant rooftop, a shadow landed, rolled once, then jumped across another building without stopping. In just a few seconds, the figure disappeared into the night.

Gabriel watched the direction for a few more seconds before he turned his attention back to the corpse. The archer was already gone, but what was left was the corpse of the assassin.

Perhaps he could find something valuable that could lead him to who his attackers were.
