Chapter 492: Meeting White Phantom [Edited]
Chapter 492: Meeting White Phantom [Edited]
Gabriel deliberately stayed low for the next couple of days. He had already sent a message to New Dawn Camp, so they were not really worried about his whereabouts.
Xman had also held back from logging into the game for some time, and when he finally did, he spawned inside his room, which was now being occupied by another guest.
He had snuck out while the couple were asleep. From there, he easily escaped into the long hallway.
Unfortunately, he had not been very sneaky, because just as he stepped out of the hotel, there was a group of familiar faces waiting for him.
’Fuck, how did these bozos know I was here.’
The players waiting for him were none other than the same party he had ignored and embarrassed the other day when he was with White Phantom.
Naturally, the first thought that came to his mind was to turn on his heels and run. However, these people had already surrounded him.
"We camped here for days and almost gave up when we did not see you," said the broad shouldered swordsman.
"It seems White Phantom is nowhere in sight. What are you going to do now?" another smirked, making the others laugh at him mockingly.
Xman moved from side to side. This was inside the central part of Stellar City. From his position, he could see guards around the corner keeping a watchful eye on the surroundings.
’No fighting is allowed within the city. Perhaps I could use that to my advantage,’ Xman thought, a confident smile slowly appearing on his face.
"If you think the guards would help you, I need you to take a closer look again," came the voice of the party leader.
With a frown on his face, he looked around again, and then he saw it.
The guards were purposely avoiding looking in this direction. Not one or two, but all of them.
He knew that the NPCs of Realm of Ascendency could be bribed. However, to bribe all the guards in this district to turn a blind eye...
’These guys, even though they are mediocre at best, should not have that much influence.’ Xman’s frown deepened as sweat glistened on his temple.
The leader of the party, who looked as calm as always, stepped forward, covering the small distance between him and Xman, who gulped a mouthful of saliva.
"Alright, if you want to make life easier for yourself both in real life and in the game world, you have to cooperate," the handsome man whispered into Xman’s ear.
"That’s enough."
The voice came from behind them, calm yet firm and authoritative.
Everyone turned at the same time.
Scarlet Voss was standing a short distance away, her hands behind her back and her expression calm as usual. The moment the group saw her, their faces changed instantly. In Realm of Ascendency, powerful NPCs were not people players wanted to offend, especially someone like Scarlet, who was known for being both powerful and strict.
The broad shouldered swordsman forced a smile. "Vice Guild Leader Scarlet. This is just a small misunderstanding between players."
Scarlet looked at him, then at Xman, then back at the group.
"In the middle of the city?" she asked calmly.
The group of players swallowed a mouthful of saliva. Scarlet stepped forward slowly, her expression slightly cold. "The guards in this district were bribed to ignore this area for a few minutes. Do you think I would not notice that?"
That single sentence made the group tense up. The handsome leader was the first to react. He bowed quickly. "We did not mean to cause trouble. We were just leaving."
Scarlet did not reply, but her eyes stayed on them.
The group quickly turned and left without saying another word. None of them dared to argue with her. Picking a fight with the Adventurer Guild inside Stellar City was the fastest way to get banned from the city.
Later that day, the same group reported back inside a tall building where ChaosCleric and VV were waiting.
The handsome leader spoke first. "We found him, but the Adventurer Guild Vice Leader showed up and interrupted."
ChaosCleric frowned slightly. "Scarlet Voss?"
"Yes."
"So the Adventurer Guild is involved now."
The handsome leader nodded. "We recruited that guy before. He did not have any of these connections before. But now, after coming into contact with White Phantom, the Adventurer Guild is suddenly protecting him."
ChaosCleric looked thoughtful. "That is strange. Why would the Adventurer Guild take interest in something like this?"
No one answered immediately, and ChaosCleric answered his earlier question himself. "Either White Phantom did something we do not know about, or the Adventurer Guild knows something we do not."
"Keep watching. Do not move carelessly for now," he gave one final order to the players before he walked out, gesturing for VV to follow him.
As they walked off, he could not help but subconsciously think to himself in annoyance, ’This is getting annoying. Why are they always so quiet?’
Meanwhile, back in the city, Xman stood in front of Scarlet, still looking a bit shaken from what just happened.
"Thank you," Xman said. "If you did not show up, they would have definitely beaten me up."
Scarlet waved it off slightly. "They were not supposed to be there in the first place."
She then turned toward the guards nearby. "You three. You are dismissed from duty starting today."
The guards’ faces changed instantly. "Vice Leader, please—"
"You accepted a bribe and ignored activity in your district," Scarlet said calmly. "You are no longer fit to guard this area."
None of the guards dared argue again and could only walk off with their heads held low.
Scarlet turned back to Xman. "Be more careful. Not everyone in this city is patient."
After that, she left without saying anything else.
Xman stood there for a moment, then let out a long breath before leaving the area. After moving through several streets and making sure no one was following him, he finally arrived at a deserted looking hotel that looked old and rundown from the outside.
This was the place White Phantom told him to come...
