Chapter 495 495: A Princess
Chapter 495 495: A Princess
For a brief moment, Sophie just sat there without speaking. The room was quiet, the only sound was the faint rustling of paper on the table and the soft sound of the guard breathing while waiting for her response. The light from the lamps was warm, but her fingers felt slightly cold as they rested on the table.
She slowly stood up from her chair and walked toward the window. From her office, she could see part of the camp and the large gate in the distance.
The royal crest.
That crest only appeared when the royal family was involved directly. Not nobles. Not officials. The royal family.
Sophie's hand slowly tightened behind her back as she stared outside.
If the royal crest was here, then that meant one thing. Her identity might have been discovered. Or at the very least, the royal family had found her location.
And if that was the case, then this was no longer just her problem. This could become Gabriel's and New Dawn's problem.
She exhaled slowly, then spoke without turning around.
"Did they say what they want?" she asked calmly.
"They said they want to meet the person in charge," the guard replied carefully. "They did not give more details."
Sophie nodded slightly and waved her hand. "I understand. Tell them I will be there shortly."
"Yes, Lady Sophie." The guard bowed and left the room, closing the door quietly behind him.
The moment the door closed, the calm expression on Sophie's face slowly disappeared. Her fingers pressed lightly against the window frame as she looked at the vehicles outside the gate. Her breathing became slightly heavier, but she quickly controlled it.
If the royal family really found her here, then things would become complicated very quickly. The royal family would never ignore her existence. And if they pushed too hard, it might drag Gabriel and New Dawn into royal affairs, something Gabriel clearly wanted to avoid.
She lowered her gaze slightly and muttered softly, "I might have caused trouble for him."
Right at that moment, the door suddenly opened again and Cassie rushed inside. Her face was pale, and she quickly closed the door behind her before walking toward Sophie.
"Sophie," Cassie said, her voice slightly tense. "I just confirmed it. The vehicles outside… they belong to the royal family."
Sophie closed her eyes briefly, then opened them again. The hesitation in her eyes was gone, replaced by a calm but serious look.
"What should we do?" Cassie frowned. "If they are here for you and people find out who you really are, it could cause a lot of problems here. For Gabriel too."
Sophie did not reply immediately. She walked back to the table and looked at the documents spread across it. Supply reports, patrol routes, camp development plans. All of these were things she was managing while Gabriel was away.
Cassie watched her quietly, waiting for an answer. She clasped her hands together in front of her apron.
After a few seconds, Sophie slowly straightened her back and pushed the chair back under the table.
"We cannot avoid them," Sophie said calmly. "If they came with the royal crest, then avoiding them will only make things worse."
Cassie bit her lower lip. "So… you are going to meet them?"
Sophie nodded once. "Yes."
She walked toward the door, her posture straight and her steps steady. The hesitation from earlier was gone, and her expression returned to the same calm and elegant look she always had.
"Prepare a few guards," Sophie said as she reached the door. "But tell them to stay back unless I call for them."
"Yes, Lady Sophie," Cassie replied quickly and followed after her.
...
On the tall walls of New Dawn, Seraphina in her Sarah form stood quietly with one hand resting on the cold stone wall. The afternoon sun was bright, and a light wind passed over the walls from time to time, causing a few loose strands of her short crimson hair to move slightly.
From where she stood, she could clearly see the vehicles outside the gate and the people standing beside them. Her sharp eyes focused on the man standing in front of the vehicles. He was wearing a neat suit with golden details, and even from this distance, his posture looked straight and confident.
"Royal crest…" Sarah muttered under her breath.
She had already heard the report from the guards. That alone was enough to catch her interest, so she came up to the walls to see things for herself.
Her red eyes narrowed slightly as she observed the man below.
"That guy… he is not weak," she said quietly.
At that moment, the gate slowly opened.
Sarah's gaze shifted, and she saw Sophie walking out with Cassie and a few guards behind them. Sophie walked in front, her back straight and her steps calm and steady as if she was not facing the royal family but just another group of visitors.
Sarah tilted her head slightly, her eyes showing interest.
She watched as Sophie and Cassie walked several meters away from the gate and stopped in front of the vehicles. The tall man in the suit stepped forward slowly. As he got closer, the guards behind Sophie looked slightly tense, but Sophie herself did not move.
Sarah's eyes narrowed slightly again as she focused on the man.
Down below, the tall man stopped a few meters away from Sophie. For a brief moment, the two of them just looked at each other. The air felt quiet, and even the guards behind Sophie did not speak.
Then, to everyone's surprise, the tall man placed one hand on his chest and bowed slightly toward Sophie.
"It has been a long time, Your Highness," the man said respectfully. "I hope the Princess has been well."
Behind Sophie, a few guards widened their eyes slightly at the way the man addressed her, but no one dared to speak.
Sophie's expression did not change much, but her fingers behind her back tightened slightly.
"I did not expect the royal family to send an envoy all the way here," Sophie replied calmly. "You must have come for an important reason."
The man straightened his back and smiled politely. "Her Majesty has been worried. The Princess left without a word, and it caused quite a bit of concern in the palace. When we finally discovered your location, we were ordered to come and confirm your safety and… invite you back."
On the wall, Sarah's eyes flickered slightly when she heard the word.
"Princess."
She slowly straightened her back and stared at Sophie again. Her eyes narrowed slightly as realization appeared in them.
"So that is what this is about…"
