Chapter 537: Sparing with VV
Chapter 537: Sparing with VV
Gabriel did not waste much time after waking up.
The memory fragment had not given him the answer he wanted, but it had given him something useful. The developer was moving in the background, and IceQueen was still one of the few paths that could bring him closer to that man.
Later that day, Gabriel returned to ChaosKnight’s tower in his White Phantom identity. IceQueen was already waiting inside her office, sitting behind her desk with ChaosCleric and Vv standing nearby.
"I’ll go with you," Gabriel said calmly.
IceQueen’s eyes shifted slightly, though her face remained composed. She was clearly pleased, but she hid it well.
"Good," she replied. "Prepare what you need. We leave for Tianlan in two days."
Gabriel gave a small nod. "Fine."
IceQueen leaned back slightly in her chair and added, "This mission will not be simple. Only ten invitation slots exist, and every group going there will have someone dangerous. Fortunately, we have you now. Hopefully, you will be able to carry the team."
"That shouldn’t be an issue," Gabriel replied.
ChaosCleric glanced at him but said nothing. After seeing what happened to Black Star, he no longer doubted White Phantom’s confidence the same way he had before.
Far away, inside New Dawn, the same news had already been settled.
The core members had gathered again, and the room was quieter than usual. Sophie stood at the front, while Sarah sat to one side with her usual relaxed posture. Ragnarok99, Arnold, Cassie, Bunny, Sniperbowlegend, Samantha, and the others listened carefully as Sophie finished explaining the situation.
"So Gabriel will not return before the mission?" Arnold asked.
Sophie turned toward Sarah. "How did your search go?"
Sarah smiled faintly and crossed one leg over the other. "He said he will meet us there."
A few people exchanged looks after hearing that.
Ragnarok99 rubbed his chin and muttered, "So he already knows."
Cassie folded her arms. "Of course he does. That man always finds out about important things before everyone else."
Sophie held the token in her hand and spoke calmly. "Then we proceed. We prepare the team, organize supplies, and leave for Tianlan according to the route Martial Palace provides. Gabriel will join us there."
The next two days passed quickly.
Preparations moved on both sides. New Dawn selected those who would represent the guild. ChaosKnight did the same, keeping White Phantom’s involvement hidden from anyone outside the core group. By the time the journey began, news of the Buried God’s Tomb had still not reached the public forum, which made the mission feel even more restricted.
The train to Tianlan moved through the wide wilderness, crossing long tracks that passed through forests, rocky plains, and old ruined areas where monsters sometimes wandered too close. The train itself was built for dangerous travel. Its outer body was reinforced, and separate rooms were arranged for stronger guests who needed privacy.
Gabriel was given a special room because he requested it.
ChaosCleric had grumbled about the cost for a few seconds, but IceQueen approved it without hesitation. After everything she had seen, giving White Phantom a private room was nothing.
If anything, he needed proper rest before arriving in Tianlan.
Inside the train, Vv, ChaosCleric, and several core members of ChaosKnight occupied the same section. Most kept their distance from Gabriel. Some did it out of caution. Others simply did not know how to speak to him.
The journey was not peaceful either.
Several times, monsters blocked the tracks or rushed from the wilderness toward the train. Each time, the teams took turns going outside to clear them. Sometimes ChaosKnight handled it. Sometimes another group from a different train moved first. The fights were short, but they kept everyone alert.
One night, when most of the train had finally gone quiet, Gabriel left his room. It was his turn to watch the train path and deal with monsters.
Usually, more than one person handled this duty, but Gabriel was an exception. ChaosKnight was confident he could deal with whatever the wilderness threw at him.
The hallway was cool, with low lamps fixed along the wall. The sound of the train moving over the tracks continued beneath everything, steady and dull.
Gabriel walked without making much noise, a habit he had developed after his recent growth in power.
He had only intended to stretch his body and check the surroundings, but as he passed one of the empty practice compartments, he heard movement inside.
Soft footsteps. Metal shifting. A quiet breath.
He stopped outside the half-open door and looked inside.
A familiar armored figure stood there.
The figure moved alone in the empty room, practicing with a blade under the faint ceiling light. Each movement was clean and direct. The armor looked heavy, yet Vv moved with surprising ease, adjusting footwork, shifting angles, and cutting through the air without wasting motion.
Gabriel watched silently for a while.
The longer he observed, the more interested he became. The movements were not flashy, but they were efficient. The balance was solid. The timing was even better. Whoever stood inside that armor had trained seriously.
After another clean slash, Gabriel finally clapped once.
The sound echoed lightly through the room.
Vv stopped instantly and turned toward the door, looking slightly startled.
Because Gabriel had perfectly concealed his aura, Vv had not sensed him at all.
Gabriel stepped inside with his hands relaxed at his sides. "Not bad."
Vv faced him without lowering the blade. "How long have you been there?"
Gabriel’s expression remained calm as he replied, "Long enough."
The air between them went still for a second.
Vv did not speak again immediately. The helmet hid the face, but Gabriel could tell the armored figure was watching him carefully now, likely trying to judge his intentions.
Meanwhile, Gabriel glanced at the blade in Vv’s hand and tilted his head slightly.
"Want to spar?"
