For most of the following day, Gabriel and Sophie continued moving through the depths of the mountain range.
They did not return along the road they had previously taken. Instead, they advanced in a more remote direction.
Relying on the experience from his previous life, as well as the observations he had made of the Alverion Mountains’ terrain during this journey, Gabriel constantly avoided routes leading toward human settlements or areas frequented by adventurers.
What the Purpleback Ant Colony needed was not a place completely free of danger.
Their race had always grown through battle, devouring prey, and relentless expansion. An environment that was too safe would instead hinder them from rebuilding their colony.
What they truly needed was a place far from human territory that also possessed enough space, food, and underground regions.
Only when the sky gradually began to darken did Gabriel finally stop.
Before them stood an enormous valley completely surrounded by steep mountain walls.
The entrance to the valley was extremely narrow.
From the outside, only an inconspicuous crack between two mountain walls could be seen. However, after passing through that crack, the space inside was far wider than expected.
There was a water source inside the valley.
Large numbers of low level monsters also lived in the surrounding area.
Deeper within the valley was a natural cave leading underground, although it was impossible to tell just how far it extended.
This place was not completely safe.
However, the Purpleback Ant Colony was a race skilled at surviving and expanding underground.
As long as the first royal ants to hatch could survive their weakest stage, they could use the natural cave to establish a new nest and rely on the nearby low level monsters to obtain the resources necessary for their growth.
More importantly, the valley was sufficiently far from the regions commonly visited by humans.
Even if the Purpleback Ant Colony developed again in the future, as long as they did not actively expand outward, they would not come into contact with humans anytime soon.
“This place will do,” Gabriel said.
He then led Sophie into the natural cave.
The interior was even more spacious than the entrance. There was no obvious accumulation of water on the ground, and the surrounding rock walls were strong enough that they would not easily collapse from ordinary battles.
Although the air carried a damp scent, there were no obvious toxins, nor were there any traces of other powerful monsters having lived there.
After traveling some distance into the cave, Gabriel stopped.
With a movement of his will, a golden royal egg appeared from his system space and was gently placed on a relatively flat area of ground.
One golden royal egg after another, each almost the size of a fully grown adult, appeared in succession. Before long, they had been neatly arranged across the spacious cave.
When the final royal egg was removed, the originally empty and dark cavern was immediately illuminated by a faint golden glow.
Weak vibrations could faintly be heard from within the royal eggs that were close to hatching.
Extremely fine cracks had even appeared on the surfaces of some of them.
Sophie remained standing nearby, watching.
She already knew that Gabriel possessed an abnormal space far surpassing ordinary storage equipment, and she had personally witnessed him storing these royal eggs inside it.
Therefore, she did not display the shock she had shown when first discovering his secret.
She merely looked at the gently trembling golden royal eggs before asking after a moment of silence,
“Will they be able to survive here?”
“Whether they survive will depend on themselves,” Gabriel answered calmly.
“There is water here, along with enough low level monsters to sustain them through their earliest stage.”
“As long as the first group of royal ants to hatch can establish a nest, the rest will no longer require our interference.”
He would not remain here indefinitely to protect these royal eggs.
Nor could he waste all his time caring for a race that had only just begun anew.
What he had promised the Purpleback Ant King was merely to give them a chance to continue existing.
Whether they could seize that chance would depend entirely on themselves.
Gabriel stood before the more than one hundred golden royal eggs and silently observed them for a while.
“Your king is dead,” he said firmly. “But I promised him that I would not allow you to be exterminated before you were even born.”
“This place is far from human territory and contains enough resources for your earliest survival. From this day onward, the conflict between the Purpleback Ant King and humanity is over.”
“As long as you do not leave the Alverion Mountains of your own accord or launch attacks against human territory, no one will come to destroy you under my command.”
After saying this, he did not remain any longer.
The lives within the golden royal eggs were currently incapable of understanding his words.
But those words had never truly been meant for them.
They were Gabriel’s final explanation to the dead Purpleback Ant King.
The royal eggs had been rescued.
A new habitat had also been found.
From this moment onward, the promise he had made to the Purpleback Ant King had been fulfilled.
Gabriel turned around and left the cave.
Sophie took one final look at the royal eggs before following him.
After passing through the valley’s narrow entrance, the two returned to the Alverion Mountains.
By then, the sky had completely darkened.
Gabriel did not continue traveling. Instead, he found a suitable place nearby to rest.
The two lit a campfire and prepared a simple meal.
Sophie sat beside the fire, occasionally looking toward the darkness in the distance.
Ever since leaving the royal tomb, she had become even quieter than before.
Gabriel naturally noticed this.
“Has the connection grown stronger?”
