Chapter 415 – Return Trip
Then, over the course of about three days, Grande and I were joined by the royal family and their blood-related nobles―or should I say patriarchs? Chiefs?―They were all over us.
Although we didn’t do much but practice with the sons and daughters, we were invited to a tea party and asked about life in the Merinard Kingdom. We talked about the Grand Dragon’s nest in the deepest part of the Black Forest, Grande’s home, and we had a party where Grande was fed the food of the Dragonis Mountain Kingdom. I was asked to show my power as a visitor… In other words, as His Majesty Hoskat said, the nobles of the Dragonis Mountain Kingdom did their best to establish a connection and bond between me and Grande, two people who share the same relationship as in the story of their ancestors.
By the way, Isla and the mages spent their time exchanging information with the mages and alchemists of the Dragonis Mountain Kingdom, while Driada and the officials had great discussions with the officials of the Dragonis Mountain Kingdom about trade and other matters. Ted, Darko, and the riflemen were told to take turns resting and were given some pocket money. They went down to Drad, the capital of the Dragonis Mountain Kingdom, and rested their bodies and minds to their hearts’ content.
“Finally.
“Though they were not yet satisfied. We can’t stay with them forever.”
I was on the bridge of the magic airship, and Grande was buried in the pillows and answered with a sigh.
“On the other hand, Kosuke, was that a good idea? Couldn’t you have taken one or two of them home with you?”
“Give me a break… I can’t afford to take care of someone else’s life more than that…”
As a matter of fact, during the three days of exchange, His Majesty Hoskat suggested that I take one or two daughters of his bloodline, the noble blood relatives of the Dragonis Mountain Kingdom, to my side of the family. No, no, no, I am still over capacity and cannot go any further. I refused the offer, saying that many of the daughters would be unwilling to marry me, no matter how much the king ordered it.
I was obliged to attend the meeting, but in the end, I did not take the princess home. It is the trump card: “Because I have Grande.” When I told them that, the people of that country had no choice but to back down.
In fact, Isla’s attitude seemed to be that it would be fine if there were more people, but I already have wives in the country waiting for my return, and I just recently had beast maids to take care of. I’m not sure how to deal with them, but I don’t have time for new potential wives.
“Kosuke, we are ready to sail.”
“Roger. Then let’s get out of here.”
We had already said goodbye to the people of Dragonis Mountain Kingdom when we boarded the ship. The hold of the ship was filled with gifts in return for the goods we had brought to the Dragonis Mountain Kingdom.
It seems that they are aware that this is not enough to return the gifts, but we refrained from bringing more as we could not fit more on the ship. The value of the mithril armor I gave them on a whim was too high.
“Hmm, we’ll leave the harbor then.”
“Yes, Chief.”
At Isla’s silent command, the mages launched the magic airship. The large-diameter wind-magic ascent propulsion system, with its powerful output, roared out and lifted the hull, while the activated fall-control system immediately stabilized the hull. It is only for this brief moment that the wind magic ascent propulsion system operates at maximum output. Once the fall control system is in operation, gravity on the huge body of the magic airship is almost cut off from the laws of this world and is close to zero.
With an ease that seems to ignore gravity, the magic airship begins to rise and turn. The bow of the airship points almost due east, toward the Merinard Kingdom.
“The airship begins to move forward. Cruise speed.”
“Aye-aye ma’am, we are starting to move forward at cruising speed.”
I felt my body being pulled slightly backward. As declared by the mages, the magic airship seems to have started moving forward. From the bridge, it’s basically the sky as far as the eye can see, so it’s hard to tell if the ship is moving or not.
It takes a little over three hours to get from the Dragonis Mountain Kingdom to Windes, the westernmost point of the Merinard Kingdom. From Windes to Merinesburg it takes about six hours. The ship left the harbor around eight in the morning, so if we keep flying at cruising speed from the morning, we should reach Merinesburg by sunset.
“You look happy.”
“I am. Sylphy and the kids will be waiting for me when we get back. I’m glad it didn’t take too long this time.”
Driada says this with a slightly annoyed look on her face, and when I say it, I can’t help but laugh.
I was away for a whole winter when we repelled the invasion from the two northern lands before. But this time, there was no need to stay so long. If it were possible, would I be stranded in the Dragonis Mountain Kingdom because the magic airship broke down and I couldn’t use my ability for some reason? I don’t want to imagine that too much.
“I’m very disappointed that I couldn’t make out with Kosuke-kun even though we went on a trip together.”
“It can’t be helped. This time, I had a very full schedule and it was at someone else’s house… or castle.”
“I don’t think we made out that much.”
“Not like that, but more like… please don’t make me say it?”
“Ah yes.”
Driada blushes and stares at me. In other words, more physical involvement like this and that. Actually, it’s not that we didn’t do it… but we couldn’t be too aggressive, considering what would happen the next day. If we were to binge every night, it would be questionable in terms of our character.
“We would be at a disadvantage for a while. The only way is to use alchemy to split Kosuke.”
“It’s scary, so don’t do it, okay?”
I really don’t want you to do that, because I don’t know what kind of strange effect Isla’s alchemy might have. I think she could make a potion that would temporarily split me in two. It would be a big problem if it became irreversible.
As we talked like this, the airship continued to fly towards the east in the endless sky.
