Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Chapter 1894 Swift Conclusion

Chapter 1894 Swift Conclusion

The alpha was the strongest of the pack.

But it posed little threat to Adam. The only thing worthwhile was its animalistic instincts that allowed the beast to evade a few initial attacks. However, the outcome had long since been decided.

It took more than just a powerful beast to take down Adam Constantine.

And so, only a dozen seconds into the fight, the alpha motionlessly lay on the ground with a gaping wound running vertically down its skull.

Wind and fire magic were the most potent forms of offensive magic, but the latter was too flashy. There were also many trees nearby. So Adam used mostly wind magic to deal with his opponent.

It was a pity he couldn't summon the serpents and have them feast on the wolf's corpse.

After what happened during the Great World War back on Tron, Adam had been informed that some of the elder snakes from the Coil were dissatisfied with his actions. They resented the fact that he had sacrificed thousands of their kin in the war.

Adam, however, had never lost a moment's sleep over it. The war had demanded impossible choices, and he had made them without hesitation. If forced to decide again, he knew he would reach the same conclusion.

Even so, he couldn't dismiss the possibility that some of the more powerful serpents — probably relatives of those that had died on Tron — harbored a grudge.

But Adam had a vague feeling that Lord White, in particular, still harbored some resentment toward him.

After all, it was Adam who had, with great difficulty and even greater reluctance, informed the ancient serpent that the Staff of Calamity had been destroyed.

Needless to say, the ancient serpent was livid.

He had forcefully reverse-summoned Adam to the Coil and subjected him to a lengthy reprimand. In the end, the ancient serpent declared that Adam failed to appreciate the value of the artifact entrusted to him before banishing him back to the material world.

The relationship between Adam and Lord White had been a bit little… rocky ever since.

But that was a story for another time.

Adam turned and quietly observed the battle from the cover of the woods. He had intended to quickly deal with the alpha before returning to assist his fellow adventurers.

It seemed that wouldn't be necessary.

His expression grew solemn, and he thought:

I've underestimated them.

And he had.

Severely.

The party didn't need his help at all.

Michael displayed swift, disciplined swordmanship. It wasn't that eye-catching, but his foundation was decent, and his footwork allowed him to weave through the wolves with ease.

Kara moved across the battlefield like a shadow, striking only when opportunities presented themselves and never committing to unnecessary risks. Her battle style was mainly support.

And Darren…

Adam's eyes narrowed.

It seemed that when the towering Paladin wasn't cowering before him, he was actually a capable fighter. Adam had planned to arrange an 'accident' and take care of Darren, but it seemed that would be a little trickier than he expected.

Genevieve was composed throughout the battle, providing defence to her teammates when necessary and never fully committing to an attack even when she had the opportunity to.

She's still a little rough around the edges, Adam made a mental judgment.

But the more battles she participates in, the more she will bloom. I don't know what training she went through, but her basics of spellcasting are very solid.

All she needs is experience.

And Valerian…

The corner of Adam's lips curled into a smile.

He always knew that his little brother was a capable hunter. Valerian was a dragon, after all. Moreover, he had fought alongside Adam in countless battles back on Tron.

Dealing with a few wolves — even the stronger ones — was nothing to the young dragon.

It was simply Adam's fierce protectiveness that had shielded Valerian from the world's dangers for so long.

In truth, Valerian was more than capable of fighting against a Cavalier Paladin or a Mana Core Magus.

The battle concluded in minutes.

Valerian, Genevieve, Michael, Kara, and Darren were surrounded by bloody corpses.

The panther had transformed back into an adorable little cat and jumped on Genevieve's shoulder.

She glanced at him, slightly speechless. Had she not seen him engage in slaughter just now, she would have never thought that the cute little cat was actually capable of something so violent.

"You did well," she said gently.

"Hmph!" The little fellow raised his chin and replied matter-of-factly.

"Of course, I did! I am Valerian the Strong!"

The rest of the party members were a little more exhausted than them. But they were also surprised at the swift conclusion.

"That… went better than I expected," Kara murmured, glancing at the lifeless beasts around them.

"Right?" Even Michael was surprised.

When the battle began, he truly didn't think the outcome would be this clean and… easy. He believed that they would have to fight with everything on the line. But not for a moment did he think that their opponents had been weak.

No. The beasts were strong.

It was the party's positioning and surprisingly smooth teamwork that allowed them to gain the upper hand.

Darren observed everything and everyone around him with a light frown. Needless to say, he was also a little surprised. However, he didn't say anything. He wiped the blood off his weapon and once again slipped into silence.

The sound of earth crumbling echoed behind the party. The earthen walls came down, and Koby emerged, looking a little flustered.

"Uhm, I'm sorry, I wasn't able to—"

His words were abruptly cut off when Michael appeared before him and clasped his shoulders. "Koby, thank goodness you're okay!"

Kara appeared beside him and nodded.

Darren cast the porter a derisive glance and sneered, but said nothing.

"Sorry to ruin the moment, but we need to move," Adam said as he emerged from the woods.

Everyone turned to him. There was no need to exchange any words, for they knew he was right.

The stench of blood and the sound of their battle was sure to draw even more beasts in the vicinity.

They needed to leave quickly!
