Chapter 1893 Primal Terror

Chapter 1893 Primal Terror

Despite Darren's many flaws, one had to admit he was a good fighter.

The moment he realized there was no running away from this predicament, he planted his feet on the ground and fought alongside the rest of the adventurers with everything on the line.

That gave him the most chances to survive this battle.

Eight wolves — five now — whose strength was equal to Cavalier Paladins, and the rest of the wolves had strength equivalent to Squires.

Despite Adam killing two and taking the strongest of the pack away, Darren and the rest were still outnumbered.

But if there was a silver lining, it was that Adam's opening attack had momentarily incapacitated the weaker wolves.

"Genevieve!" Darren roared. "The lesser wolves! Take as many of them out as possible!"

The auburn-haired woman didn't need to be reminded of that opening. Before the Paladin had even begun screaming, she had already woven a set of hand seals and activated an artifact to boost her spell.

[Magic Missile Barrage]

Half a dozen orbs of pure mana materialized around her, brimming with potent power. With a flick of her hand, Genevieve guided the spell to attack the weaker wolves who had been swept off earlier.

With a sickening sound of bones shattering and flesh rending, three weaker wolves instantly met their death. One of them was grievously injured, while the rest had managed to somehow evade her attack.

Before the two sides collided, the wolf's numbers were once again chipped away. Now, only four Rank 0 wolves remained.

And yet, they were still outnumbered.

But this was already the best outcome given the dire situation they were in.

If there was a weak link in their party, then it was Koby. Genveive knew that. And that was why, after clearing as many weaker wolves as she could, she focused entirely on the defence. She also made sure to provide extra protection to the porter.

Finally, the two sides clashed.

The ominous sounds of howls and blood-curdling roars and clash of steel rang in the air.

Michael sidestepped, swiftly evading a wolf's claw swipe. Then, in one fluid motion, he reversed the grip and swung his sword in an upward motion, leaving a gaping wound to the beast's flank.

His instincts kicked in, and he felt a terrifying killing intent lock onto him. The moment he turned, he found another wolf with its fangs bared and eyes bloodshot, pouncing onto him.

But before the wolf could even lay a finger on him…

[Mana Barrier]

A shimmering shield of resplendent blue appeared before him like a protective wall — courtesy of Genevieve Saint Laurent.

The wolf smashed against the shield, momentarily debilitated. It had, after all, crashed head-first into the barrier. And that brief moment was all that was needed.

Michael noticed a shadow zoom past him and deliver two quick slashes to the wolf's front limbs.

Kara delivered precise cuts to the wolf's limbs, then swiftly retreated and took her position.

From the other side, Darren swooped in, spiked mace lifted high above his shoulders and—

Bam!

The Paladin smashed the wolf into the ground, its skull cracking as blood and brain matter splattered everywhere.

Michael glanced at Darren for a brief moment and offered a faint nod. Then he resumed fighting.

At the center of the formation, Koby was panicking and sweating profusely as he was beset by two Rank 0 wolves. If it weren't for Genevieve constantly shielding him from the more dire attacks, he would have long since died.

He cursed inwardly for being so pathetic and weak. Blade in one hand and shield in another, he continued to defend. He stuck with his sword, but the blade couldn't get past the wolf's thick hide.

A gray light flashed past his eyes, and the next moment, the wolf that had been prestering him suddenly found its throat ripped off.

Koby's eyes slightly widened when he noticed Valerian prowling through the battlefield, half his face plastered with the blood of wolves. No matter where he went, the panther would make sure to butcher the weaker wolves.

In less than a minute, Valerian had already dealt with all the Rank 0 wolves, his topaz eyes brimming with excitement.

"Focus, Koby!" Genevieve's cry snapped the porter out of his daze.

"Y-Yes!" He stuttered, gripping his sword and shield tighter.

He looked around and noticed that the weaker wolves had already been dealt with by Valerian. So… what was he going to do now? Just stand? He did like that idea, but thought better than to breathe voice to it.

Thankfully, he didn't have to.

Genvieve placed a gentle hand on his shoulder and pulled him back. Then he saw earthen walls rise around him and enclose him in a protective tomb.

Everything around him went dark. Everything except the sound of battle.

In a matter of minutes, the battlefield had changed completely.

The adventurers began the fight heavily outnumbered. Now, however, the odds had evened. In fact, with Valerian fighting alongside them, they outnumbered the remaining wolves by one.

Genevieve turned to the grey panther with mild surprise in her light blue eyes. She had witnessed how he had plowed through the wolves. His movement and prowess were honed, and that could only be a result of experience borne from bloody battles.

Valerian, sensing her gaze, turned to her and flashed his blood-stained fangs. He said mischievously:

"Cat got your tongue?"

Genevieve snapped out of her daze, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. She turned her attention back to the battle.

With the battlefield even now, Darren, Michael, and Kara had begun fighting individual battles. That left only one remaining Rank 1 wolf.

The remaining wolf warily stared at Genevieve and the grey panther. By all accounts, the human should have been the greater danger. She was, after all, a Magus.

Yet the wolf's instincts screamed otherwise.

Everything inside of it warned that the panther was not to be taken lightly. Something about its aura filled the beast with primal terror. Its tail slowly lowered before tucking itself between its legs as it cautiously retreated.

Genevieve frowned slightly, but didn't think much of it. She and Valerian slowly began to circle the wolf. Her artifact was activated and ready to strike.

"Shall we?" she asked.

Valerian grinned. His deep, gruff voice rumbled with a predator's delight.

"Oh, we shall!"
