Chapter 2028 Spell-Casting Speed
Chapter 2028 Spell-Casting Speed
Watching the dome cover the woods and completely seal this place off, Echo was surprised. But soon, her surprise gave way to blatant amusement.
"You…" She pointed at Adam, unable to hold back her laughter. "Are you stupid? Why would you do such a thing? Do you have no intention to live?"
Janet, however, did not find it amusing like her twin sister. In fact, her expression grew dark and solemn.
For Adam to trap himself along with the rest of the vampires and monsters could only mean two things — either he was confident in his skills, or he was completely crazy!
A foreboding feeling gripped her heart. She didn't waste any more time. She turned and pounced on Adam without warning. Her claws swirled with dark mana as she intended to pierce Adam's heart.
Clang!
A sound akin to metal striking metal thundered in the air.
Janet's expression turned even darker when she saw a [Mana Shield] abruptly appear before Adam, protecting him from her attack.
Such high spell-casting speed, she thought in alarm.
He is not an ordinary Magus!
"Echo!" she roared. "Assist me, quick!"
Sensing the solemnity in her sister's voice, Echo's amused expression quickly faded away. She no longer took Adam lightly.
After all, she had just witnessed Adam using a single hand seal to cast a warding spell in the blink of an eye. Such a feat could only be achieved through exceptional mana control.
The two sisters moved at the same time.
Janet raised both hands. A crimson magic circle rapidly formed before her. In the next moment, she unleashed a barrage of blood-red projectiles toward Adam.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The ground underneath exploded. Trees were torn apart as the projectiles crashed through the forest with terrifying force.
But Adam calmly erected one [Mana Shield] after another, overlapping them to form a near-impenetrable defense.
Suddenly, Echo appeared behind him. A large amount of dark mana gathered around her claws as they shot forward toward the back of his neck.
The [Mana Shields] had taken heavy damage from Janet's attack, and there were countless cracks on them. Echo's follow-up claw strike destroyed the shield behind him.
Adam did not even look around. He weaved yet another single-hand seal and cast [Haste].
A burst of wind erupted from his feet, and he disappeared from the spot, resulting in Echo's claws piercing through nothing but empty air.
But only a split second later, the vampire sisters were on his tail again.
Adam's lips curled into a wide grin.
The twins were coordinating their attacks remarkably well. Janet controlled the battlefield from a distance, forcing him to constantly defend against her spells, while Echo used her speed to attack from Adam's blind spots.
One moment, Echo appeared from behind. The next, she came from above. Then from the side. Her movements were so fast that several afterimages appeared throughout the forest.
Adam's hands blurred into rapid hand seals. Then he swiped his hands forward.
[Wind Blades]
Dozens of compressed blades of air shot forward. The forest erupted into chaos. Trees were sliced apart as the wind blades tore through the darkness. Echo narrowly avoided them, her body twisting through the air before disappearing once again.
The vampire twins could see these flashy wind magic spells coming from kilometers away.
At the same time, Janet launched another attack. A giant crimson spear materialized above her.
[Blood Spear]
Adam glanced upward, the grin still etched on his face. Just as the crimson spear descended, he disappeared.
BOOOOM!
The earth shattered, and a massive crater appeared where Adam had been standing only moments before.
Janet's eyes narrowed.
"Where—"
"Behind you."
Janet froze for a brief moment before quickly spinning around. Adam stood several meters away, waving at her with a teasing smile.
But the moment she saw him, something felt wrong.
"JANET!"
Echo's voice struck Janet like lightning as she suddenly felt a spike of killing intent coming from beside her.
The Adam that waved at her had been nothing but an illusion. The real Adam appeared a few meters beside her and clapped his hands, pointing the tips of his fingers at her.
[Wind Cannon]
A concentrated blast of air crashed toward her.
Janet's eyes widened, and she quickly dodged the incoming attack. However, due to a subtle illusion woven by Adam that slowed her reaction, the spell managed to graze past her abdomen, destroying a good chunk of her cold flesh.
The [Wind Cannon] flew forward, its momentum undeterred. It blasted through several trees in its path and obliterated any vampire, ghoul, or other monsters unlucky enough to stand in its way.
Meanwhile, Janet lay on the ground, blood gushing out of the side of her stomach.
Before Adam could follow up, Echo appeared beside him with her claws glowing crimson.
He turned toward her as he rapidly weaved another set of hand seals and stomped on the ground.
[Earthen Armor]
Solidified earth rose from the ground, traveled across his leg and torso, before coalescing around his arm in less than a blink of an eye.
CLANG!
Echo's claws struck Adam's armored arm. The force of the collision created a violent shockwave that swept through the forest.
Several monsters were thrown off their feet, but Adam paid them no mind.
Echo's eyes widened in shock. She hadn't expected Adam to be able to withstand her strike. His body was far more resilient and sturdy than she had expected.
She didn't have any more time to dwell on her thoughts when she noticed Adam weave a single-hand seal with his free hand.
The wind around him suddenly changed. It became violent. Wind currents began spiraling around his hand.
Echo instinctively jumped backward, and a moment later, half a dozen [Wind Blades] shot in her direction.
Excelling in speed and agility, she narrowly dodged the [Wind Blades].
But the trees in her surroundings were cut apart. The weaker creatures standing nearby did not even understand what had happened. Their bodies were suddenly torn apart by blades of compressed wind.
Blood sprayed across the forest. Several ghouls collapsed, while others screamed in agony.
Echo did not even pay attention to them. She thought to herself with a dark look on her face, Those wind blades seem to be his main attack spells. But they're too conspicuous. As long as I can see them, no matter how fast they are, I can dodge them!
But Janet…
She didn't even have time to catch a glimpse of her sister's current state when she suddenly saw Adam swipe his hands once again.
Her body quickly reacted, and she dodged to the side. However, she couldn't see any compressed blades of wind in her vision.
Echo couldn't help but fiercely frown.
A fake? Where are the—
Her consciousness was snuffed out in a fraction of a second.
A thin crimson line appeared across her face, running diagonally from her left lower jaw, across the bridge of her nose, and to the right side of her head.
In the next heartbeat, half of her face slid down and fell to the ground.
[Blade of Emanation]
Echo Leroux had been so fixated on looking out for the clearly visible blades of wind that she completely missed the invisible ones until it was too late.
