Chapter 474: Dreamspawn
Chapter 474: Chapter 474: Dreamspawn
Chapter 474 – Dreamspawn
"The Dreamspawn?" Soleil echoed, frowning so heavily his face twisted like a wrinkled brain. "How did they enter the universe? They were the least likely ones to succeed."
"Yet they did." Law said. "Still, they did it in a way that felt too convenient for it to be by themselves alone."
"You mean," Soleil said, "that there are traitors inside the universe?"
"Does it surprise you? It shouldn’t, Bearer of Sun. If even your mother could betray her own brother for power..."
Law smiled with her only facial features — her eyes.
"...what would stop the other beings of the universe from doing the same? Nothing, Bearer of Sun. Nothing at all."
Soleil’s sun-like eyes were fixed on Law impassively.
Since the beginning of this meeting, the Light-Touched had been furiously trying to get him out of his zone; to make him wrathful by constantly attacking his mother.
It was strange.
It was not the first time he was attacked by her, but it was certainly the first time she did it so openly.
What had changed? Soleil mused internally, keeping his outward expression quiet and steady despite his internal turmoil.
The answer to this question was easy and obvious.
It was the liberation of Apollo, his uncle.
’Uncle Apollo and the Light-Touched... could it be?’ He deduced, but his attention was brought back to the current situation by Law’s voice.
"Focus here, Bearer of Sun." She said. "We have traitors within our home. Traitors who helped those Dreamspawn enter the universe more easily."
"Do you have any idea who?" Soleil asked, deciding to think about his deduction later.
"It’s not an easy matter." Law rhythmically tapped her finger on her light-made armchair. "We cannot accuse anyone. If we do, we will only breed more annoying situations that could serve the traitors. We are already divided enough. We cannot worsen the wounds. That’s not our goal."
"And that’s also not quite your goal either, Bearer of Sun." Law pointed her slender index finger at him.
"Your goal is to kill those Dreamspawn and protect the low east side of the universe. If you can gather information about traitors, do so. But only as a secondary task."
She paused, eyes transfixed on Soleil.
"Are my words clear to you, Bearer of Sun?"
"They are." He nodded simply.
"Good." Law said. "And I must also add that you will go with Horus, the Falcon of the Falconer, from the Divine Beast faction."
Soleil arched an eyebrow. "Horus? Wasn’t he—!"
His words were swallowed inside his mouth as he remembered a recent event.
Law confirmed his thoughts.
"His Stolen Records of Sky, Kingship, and Vision have returned with the First Abomination’s death. He has regained his power and wishes nothing more than to reclaim his lost glory."
Law smiled, paused once more, letting Soleil follow her fast speech.
"I believe he will be a good companion for this endeavor. And it’s a good opportunity to smoothen our relationship. No matter how solitary we are, it’s no time for things like this."
"When shall I depart?" Soleil asked directly, unwilling to stay there any longer.
"As soon as possible." Law said. "In fact, I dare say you must go immediately. We cannot allow the situation to deteriorate."
"Fine." Soleil whispered. "I will depart after a stop in my world."
He decided and completely disappeared without another word, leaving Law sitting there alone.
The woman smiled, then a voice whispered through her ears, deep inside her mind.
"Are you sure about this decision? Why were you so open this time?" The voice whispered. It sounded like a broken record.
Law only grinned, closing her eyes.
"What did I do? I just discussed with him like any other person."
"You are getting too bold." The voice said. "Such a shift in comportment will be seen as suspicious."
"And so?" Law grinned. "Let them think that."
The voice fell silent, then retreated back into her mind.
Law laughed.
...
Back in Sunny World, Rue began to slowly regain his consciousness.
He woke up groggily, his body creaking and snapping loudly in the process.
"What... what happened?" he muttered painfully, voice raspy and dry, feeling a terrible headache slamming into his skull.
He groaned painfully.
Looking around, Rue Octave saw the makeshift house he had created completely destroyed, increasing his puzzlement.
He pivoted his body, his eyes settling on Premier, still in the process of dying. Rue’s eyes lowered and saw a runic formation glowing with golden light underneath Premier.
The runes were responsible for not only killing but also reviving the Firstborn of Noah nonstop.
He coughed, spilling out spit mixed with golden-tainted liquid.
Rue was completely lost, his mind jumbling so much that the world seemed to tilt before his eyes.
He slowly got up, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. Gradually, his mind was coming back to normal, the headache melting away.
Sighing, Rue looked back at the dying Premier, seeing him more and more broken as time passed.
He took a step toward him, feeling the urge to do something. Something like...
’Water?’ Rue mused internally. ’Yes, he can drink wat—!’
RIIIIIIIPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!
Rue jerked in absolute shock as, above, the sky of Sunny World ripped apart like a gorydamn sheet of paper.
The sound reverberated like a loudspeaker, making the very world tremble and quake like a mortal man trapped in the depths of Antarctica.
Immediately, the Will of the World began to bellow in both anger and pain,
"WHO DARES!!!!"
Fire erupted, molten earth shredded, then rose skyward.
In one instant, the world seemed to end.
That was when Rue’s eyes noticed something. And what he saw made his mind feel as if it were about to crack and splinter like wood.
There, at the edge of the shattered sky, beings began to pour down.
Gray-skinned, with no other facial features except their wide, jagged mouths.
Rue had never seen them with his own eyes, but he had heard enough to know that these beings were...
"The Dreamspawn!!!" Rue cried out erratically as he fell to the ground on his back, the earth beneath him twisting.
In the process, his eyes met an odd sight within the rain of Dreamspawn falling upon this world.
There, an ash-like silver-haired woman with foxy features was falling among the Dreamspawn, protected as if she were a worshipped queen.
Strangely, seeing the woman invoked within him the same feeling he had when looking at Premier. One of love and a searing desire to protect.
Everything that happened when those beings entered Sunny occurred so quickly that Rue barely perceived it.
The woman’s eyes immediately settled on Premier, and seeing how he was dying and reviving nonstop, her eyes widened so much one would believe they might burst from their sockets.
Then her eyes shifted, becoming pure purple, Dream and illusions of catastrophic events bleeding through reality.
Rue shivered.
Her voice boomed out,
"BROTHER!!!!"
Premier’s mind snapped into eerie clarity at the sound of her voice. He lifted his bleeding eyes and head upward just before his next death, managing a few broken words at the sight of his sister falling from the shattered heavens,
"...F-Foxy?"
