Chapter 513 Sister
Chapter 513 Sister
"How eloquent of you," Laeh sneered openly. "You said such beautiful things about Love as if you know it."
Noah laughed. "Darling, I am called the Primordial Husband. Mind you, it's a title I didn't choose."
"So what?"
"Do I need to spell it out for you? I never knew my sister was so stupid." Noah said with a grin. Laeh's eye twitched heavily, but before she could complain, Noah already continued.
"But aren't I the best brother? So let me explain it to you. If I, the Primordial Husband, do not know about love, then no one does."
He shook his head, continuing his braiding. "Are you maybe forgetting who you have in front of you?"
"And how could I not?" Laeh shrugged simply, shifting her head slightly in a way that made Noah's hands miss, his lips twitching.
She continued smoothly, "You are never here. You are always out, as if there is something, somewhere, better to be than here, your home. Your-!"
"Sister." Noah completed her sentence, smiling apologetically.
The surrounding air slowly became encased in silence.
After the talk with his children and the start of their transformation into the new bloodline, Noah had immediately gone to his sister to pass some time with her.
He had missed her dearly and expected a warm reception after his prodigal return. Ah well, wasn't it always how it was?
The Hero returned from his journey and found the whole 'village' waiting for him, waiting for the boons he had obtained and would
eventually share.
The 'village' was always happy, its folk looking upon his great self in open awe. Of course, Noah didn't expect that much reverence from Laeh. He didn't want it, even.
But he hadn't expected her to give him the cold shoulder and rudely order him to braid her hair.
Noah accepted without question.
Your wants are my command, my dear, he had said as he began.
So here he was, at the very heavens of his world, sitting on a drifting crimson cloud with Laeh's back facing him.
His hands moved gracefully through her hair, combing, twisting, and shaping it into a beautiful set of braids. With her new pale hair, the sight was a sight for sore eyes.
It was like a complex web of paths zigzagging across her head, forming a beautiful tapestry made for gods to admire.
'Amazing!' Laeh thought.
She was mad at her brother. But even so, she could no longer keep the words from leaving her mouth:
"How and when did you learn to braid?" she asked.
"Me?" Noah tilted his head, inwardly glad for the change of subject. "I didn't learn it consciously. I just remembered that there were people on Earth who braided their hair. So I tried to do the same."
"Really?" Her voice grew a little more excited. "Why do they braid their hair? I mean, I do it just to bother you."
"That's honest, girl, Noah added inwardly.
"I'm not entirely sure," he said. "Maybe it's a cultural matter, or style, or even to protect their hair - or all of the above."
"What are they called?"
"It's more complicated than that. Many cultures from different eras and countries did it. But the memories I'm drawing from are rooted in black people's culture."
"Why them?"
"Personal preference. And they are an interesting people."
"Interesting?" Laeh's voice was probing.
"I am no history teacher, dear sister." Noah said with a chuckle. "Just know that. Maybe when I am free, I will take you on a tour of Earth to meet them. I will check in on Evadam too, while I'm at it. It's been a
while."
"So even now you are not free?" Laeh frowned.
She had thought she would have much more time with her brother after so long apart.
She wanted to complain, but Laeh knew that Noah needed to keep moving for staying still in a Universe on the brink of destruction was
folly.
She sighed inwardly, wondering why she was acting so childish today. But she couldn't help it, for only with her brother could she be this
way.
To anyone else, she was the Will of the World, a powerful and distant being whose control over the World was surpassed only by Noah. Some of the inhabitants of Laeh even worshipped her, calling her {Mother}.
She didn't care much for it. She only cared about evolving - not only for herself, but for her brother too.
The brother who, despite his busy schedule, still took care of her. As best he could.
And sometimes - most of the time - it was not enough. And that had taught Laeh something real:
A person could love you and still not be there at your lowest. Not out of hatred, but because life was made that way.
People have responsibilities, but more than that they have feelings and so breaking points. And sometimes those very things become a stone on the path of keeping their word.
Not because they were disloyal or uncaring. But because they were living beings. Imperfect living beings.
So knowing all of that, and accepting that they would soon have to part again, Laeh spoke. She had nothing particular to say, so she said the first thing that came to mind, only to keep the conversation going
and savour the moment a little longer.
"Then why not do like them?"
"Huh?" Noah's eyebrows arched upward. "Do what?"
"Create something of your own. Something people will see and directly associate with you or our family." She smiled. "Something so fundamental that even the lowest of mortals could possess it, or use
it, or simply be it."
"Don't you find it more interesting? Our new hair - crimson-gold- it's flashy and beautiful. But it mainly represents us, the Main members. What about the lowest of the low?"
"That's interesting." Noah chuckled, briefly holding his chin with a
pensive expression. "That's truly interesting."
"I know, right."
"Yes. And since you are the one who gave this idea," Noah nodded,
"then you choose what that thing will be."
"As if you were going to do it yourself." Laeh snickered. "You barely
know your own people."
"All because I need to protect them. And most of the time, that
requires me to not be present."
"I don't blame you."
"Yes, of course you don't." Noah rolled his eyes.
Laeh smiled sheepishly. "We don't need anything complicated. Just something universal enough. Like a small bracelet made of our special ore, Toucouleur. A bracelet that every child aged one or two and older will wear. The bracelet will have their name inscribed on it."
She grinned. "That will be our custom. Our own tradition. Let's call it
Laam."
"Ohoho!" Noah's eyes lit up. "I like that! We might as well go further and deepen it. Why not add something to it? Once someone has it
and their name has been etched onto the bracelet, they could
perform a ritual."
"A ritual?"
"Yes, a ritual." He nodded. "A ritual where they call out to us, the gods of this world, and we can either bless the bracelet or not." "That will surely motivate them to embrace this new custom quickly."
Laeh nodded, pleased that her idea had been so readily accepted. "Indeed. However, I will need to settle on a proper ritual for something like this." He paused briefly. "And ritualistic matters were never really my domain."
"You can look to those who are more advanced in it."
"Who?"
Laeh took two heartbeats to think before answering. "From what I
remember, the beastmen are very advanced in that area," she said. "Even after many of them chose to become Elysiari, some refused to
change their race for the sole reason that their rituals would be incomplete without it."
Noah's eyes lit up suddenly. "Oh, really?"
"Of course." Laeh said. "And you know what's better? You can learn
directly from where they got their rituals in the first place."
"The Divine Beast faction."
"Bingo, brother!"
Noah grinned. "And isn't it a coincidence? I have exactly the right
person to teach me more about it."
Lach slowly turned her head to look at him from the corner of her eye. "Who?"
Noah didn't answer. He simply willed his personal realm open, and something someone - appeared out of thin air and landed flat before them with a soft thud.
Laeh and Noah watched the beautiful white cat in front of them, her
celestial eyes stirring in them an instinctive urge to reach out and pet
her.
"Well," Noah began, finally done with Laeh's braids, "how about a
lovely talk, mother-in-law?" -End of Chapter 513-
