Chapter 85

Chapter 85

Reporting is important, isn’t it?

“M-my most deepest apologies!”

After the classes were over, we returned to the dorms and instantly called Anne to question her only to be faced with her apologizing with a full  kowtowing.

“……….Anne. You are in charge of observing Wilhelm, so it should be your job to report me on anything that happens with him, no?”

“I-I just didn’t think that he would return to the academy so soon after that kind of an injury so it just completely caught me off guard……….”

“haah………”

Maya rebuked her, and then sighed with an exasperated look.

As you’d expect, this was most certainly a failing grade for a spy.

“Prince Rudolf, Lady Lizbeth, this is my failure as well as the person in-charge of Anne’s training. Please forgive me.”

“Now now, no need for you to apologize Maya.”

Seeing Maya earnestly bow to apologize, I quickly urged her to raise her head.

“I’m not going to interrogate Anne any further either, and Maya most certainly didn’t do anything wrong. Anyway, just be careful from here onwards okay?”

“Yes………My utmost thanks for your generosity your highness.”

“Tr-truly, my deepest apologies for this failure!”

Both Maya and Anne bowed once again.

“So Anne, is there anything else that you wish to report to us?”

“uh, Yes! There is nothing else to report!”

Faced with Liz’s cold gaze, Anne went into full attention as she replied.

Well, Liz was also her master, so it was natural for her to be a little more strict than me.

Even a single piece of information alone could be the difference between danger and having things under control for us after all.

“Then Anne, pay extra attention towards any movement Wilhelm might make in the future. Especially in regards to who he contacts, even if they are his family or servants, you must report each and every one of them, okay?”

“U-Understood!………but, why is that, may I ask…….?”

“Anne!!”

The moment Anne asked that, Maya roared angrily, a very rare occurrence.

“B-but, Sister Maya, I havebeen observing this Wilhelm for some time but, I really don’t see any reason to be so wary of a man like that………if anything, I find it strange just how much everyone here is so overly cautious about him……”

It would seem Anne was not satisfied with how we were dealing with Wilhelm.

I suppose from her point of view who doesn’t know anything, it must seem strange why I see Wilhelm as this big threat.

“haah……..Did I not explain in detail what all that man did………”

“Of-of course I understood all that. However, all he did was try and deceive Lady Lizbeth through words and nothing more. He’s basically a small fry……..”

“And yet. Your master is still wary of him. Can you not even understand the significance of that fact?”

Maya’s pointing it out was indeed correct.

We………no, even I, was not so cautious of him for some petty reason.

After all, that man was still the hero of the [War Records of Wilhelm] after all.

“Anne, I understand why you are not convinced. But, do understand that every piece of information you bring can greatly affect both mine and Liz’s destinies. That’s why……”

Me and Liz were now engaged like this but, that was only because Maya noticed the gold coin I had on me allowing Liz to catch Wilhelm’s lies.

Such a small little thing alone had changed everything. Both me, Liz and Maya too understand that.

“u-understood. I, Anne Orson, will be sure to bring any evidence I can find on Wilhelm!”

“Good, I’m counting on you.”

As Anne knelt on one knee, I smiled.

“Now then………it’s time for us to go do our daily training.”

“Allow me to accompany you as well.”

“Sure. Then, let’s get changed and then head to the training area.”

“Yes!”

And so, me and Liz switched to our training gear, and then headed to the training area to work off a sweat……..but.

“………..Lord Rudy, I feel you were a tad too generous.”

“About Anne, you mean…….?”

Liz slowly nodded.

It’s true, like she said, I went a little too easy on her.

But.

“Liz……..do you mind for a moment?”

“!?! Lo-Lord Rudy, what are you!?!”

I pulled Liz into my embrace, and at distance so close she could feel my breath, I whispered something into her ears.

“Ah……………”

“And, that’s how it is.”

Once I was done talking, I stepped away from Liz yet again.

Liz seemed a little reluctant to part it seemed, but I didn’t embrace her with those kind of intentions, so forgive me this time.

“I’m planning to let Maya know this afterwards as well but……..”

“You should, but……..”

“But?”

“Well………”

Liz seemed to falter a little before she continued speaking with a darkened expression.

Before they were recruited as spies for the Fahlcrantz family, Maya and Anne had been living in the slums of the capital apparently.

Since they came from very similar circumstances, Maya tends to dote on Anne like she was a little sister to her.

“……….that’s why Maya was quite happy that Anne had also been brought in as our personal attendant on the occasion of our entrance to the academy.”

“Is that so…………”

Seriously Maya, that’s not right.

Even though we had built such a friendly and relaxed master and servant relationship, you never thought of telling me any of this?

But.

“It’s quite sad, isn’t it……….”

“……….yes.”

Thinking of the what was about to occur, both me and Liz dropped our shoulders feeling slightly dejected.
