Chapter 88

Chapter 88

An astonishing proposition from Liz

“……..and that’s all for my report.”

That night, on the day I was solicited by Oscar, me, Liz received our report from Anne in regards to Wilhelm’s true motives.

However, since it was impossible for Anne to observe him while he was attending classes, she could only gather info from when he was at his dorms.

“hmm………surprisingly, Wilhelm and Oscar don’t seem to be acting together right now huh.”

“uh, Yes. Prince Oscar is of course outside my jurisdiction so I can’t say for sure but, as far as Wilhelm is concerned, he simply sent his entire day together with the noble girls of his class, and after that hasn’t left his room even once.”

That might also be because of the injury to his left leg but, knowing that he’s cooped up inside his room made me feel a little uneasy.

Although, even I didn’t know why I felt that way.

“The incident this time also made it very clear, but he’s clearly coordinating things with Prince Oscar which is why he came back to school so quickly. Then, there has to be a common point, a point of contact, that they use to do that.”

“It’s as Liz says. That’s why I also think that he must be using an unconventional method to talk in secret.”

Even without meeting directly, they could still talk with letters and such.

If we could pin that down, we’d very quickly find out what Wilhelm and Oscar were planning but……

“Anne,……..now’s the time to reclaim your honour. You must find how Wilhelm and Prince Oscar are contacting each other.”

Maya, quietly yet strongly, urged to Anne.

Honour and all that aside, it was clear that Anne was our key.

“Understood! I, Anne, will show my worth to both Prince Rudolf and Lady Lizbeth for sure!!”

Anne knelt, and showed us her eagerness.

“Anne, I’m counting on you.”

“Yes!”

Now, we will certainly catch Wilhelm’s movements with this.

But.

“Maya.”

“……..yes.”

When I called her name, Maya simply nodded, with a meek and obedient expression.

From the next day, the criticisms and pressure against me inside the Academy became a lot harsher.

The cause? Of course it was thanks to me making an enemy out of Oscar.

And to accompany all that.

“Thanks to Lord Wilhelm’s help, the student council has become a lot more lively.”

“I even hear that Prince Oscar himself said that [Wilhelm is like my right hand now] as well!”

And like that, Wilhelm had become the target of such praiseworthy rumours inside the class as well.

“Haha………well, I am also an Imperial after all. As a fellow Imperial, I intend to work hard to support the great Prince Oscar, so he can become the next heir as well.”

“Ooh!”

“As expected of Lord Wilhelm!”

The young girls all hyped him up, putting the cocky Wilhelm on a pedestal.

That said.

“””………………………………….”””

A part of the class………especially the girls who were from families belonging to Fredrik’s faction were staring at Wilhelm coldly.

Until now, Wilhelm didn’t align himself to any faction so there were quite a few girls trying to woo him but, now that he was very clearly an enemy, they had distance themselves from him.

But, in regards to Christel, it wasn’t just a matter of factions, as she was staring at Wilhelm with eyes as cold as Liz herself.

Perhaps Liz’s feelings did indeed reach through to her it seemed. Which made me quite happy.

And so.

“Lady Christel, I believe I’m not wrong in assuming that your family is thoroughly part of Brother Fredrik’s faction, yes?”

I, Liz, and Sheila, were currently having our lunch with Christel also joining us today.

Liz had personally invited her, seeing Christel sitting alone in the class.

That said, while I do think that she’s part of Fredrik’s faction considering the distance she’s put between herself and Wilhelm, normally she should have had other noble girls from the same faction still around to sit with.

And yet, she had distanced herself from everyone instead.

“No, the Svensson family is currently allied with none of the factions.”

“Currently eh………..meaning, you were part of one or the other in the past?”

“That’s……….we were, with that Prince Robin’s actually………”

“Aah…………..”

I see. It was only a couple days ago that Robin had been cornered and sentenced to imprisonment, thus completely destroying his faction.

And the families that were part of his faction were now desperately scrambling to become a part of either Fredrik’s or Oscar’s camp.

Now if they had the same kind of authority and power as Sheila’s Andersen family, they’d be more than welcome in both camps and they wouldn’t need to be frantically trying to join either side.

On the other hand, for nobles that didn’t have that much influence or power, joining a faction was basically vital to make sure that they could maintain their current status.

And yet, even if they managed to get into either of these factions now, they wouldn’t exactly gain a very favourable position within said faction anyway, thus their current distress.

And not to mention, while Fredrik’s camp was originally at an advantage, thanks to Oscar’s camp absorbing parts of Robin’s camp earlier as well as a few households leaving Fredrik’s camp, that powerbalance was now at a completely even level. Which side to choose, was now truly a tough decision to make.

Now if only either of the camps were to send any kind of positive indication, at least they could hope to get a high position there, but alas.

It was then.

“fufu………in that case, why not join Lord Rudy’s faction instead?”

“Liz!?!”

Hearing Liz’s sudden proposition, I couldn’t help but exclaim loudly.
