Chapter 1434: The Prince Reis

Chapter 1434: The Prince Reis

In a room with dark walls, Northern sat across his brother with a cold, impassive look on his face. He was leaning back with his arms spread over the black sofa that seemed to have been carved out of shadows rather than wood.

While Prince Reis sat on another cushion, his legs crossed and hands gently poised over his crossed legs. An irksome, perpetual smile was on his face, and he stared at Northern with warmth. At the same time it was difficult to discern if that was truly warmth, or pity.

"You must be good at pretending..."

"Oh?"

The Prince looked at Northern, his eyes squinting in amusement.

"And on what grounds would you conclude that?"

Northern waved his hand.

"You said you had a deal for me. Please kindly drive yourself straight to the point."

Reis gave Northern a disheartening look.

"You’re not going to ask me questions, how I knew you were my brother, what exactly happened, why it took so long for me to find you? You’re not gonna get mad like people usually do? Or hug me and sob?"

Northern shot a glare at him.

"It’s not like you showed up with gifts either, you destroyed a dear person’s home and killed over a hundred people, you think I’m not going to get you for that?"

Reis tilted his head, looked confused, then he pointed to Northern.

"Do you know how many of my homeless friends died during your war at Fhugal. You’re not only a greedy fellow, you’re a hypocrite too huh?"

"Yea, no shit."

Northern kept glaring at him, the prince returned his hard look with a soft, warm smile.

After a few whole minutes, Northern spoke in an irritated tone.

"Please can you go straight to the point."

It was then that Prince Reis leaned forward, his crimson gaze hardening.

"First let’s talk about your older brother. Make sure you bring no harm to him. Father is scary, but he’s your father, but remember, our mother is just as scary... and she’s not your mother. Please don’t let all you have worked so hard for because of a silly mistake. Instead take this time to have a brotherly bond with him, okay?"

Northern didn’t respond. However, the Prince unceremoniously continued.

"Have you ever asked yourself why you think world domination is a must for the Reinhard Empire?"

"Because they’re an insatiable, selfish, power grubbers."

Reis laughed.

"Correct answer! But not correct enough. At the depth of it all, that lies true but it’s not as easy as you make it seem. I mean you’re eventually bound to find out. But I suppose that will take years from now."

He spaced out for a bit but continued talking.

"Since you’re just seventeen and you are already a Paragon, give it three, four years, you’ll successfully become a Luminary. After that you’ll have to go through this annoying task of becoming a Transcendent, then even after that becoming a Genesis..."

He paused and sighed.

At that point, Northern would not deny that he had developed interest, but his damned brother just had to stop.

Prince Reis looked at him with a cunning smile.

Meanwhile Northern cursed internally, knowing very well his half brother was baiting him with information.

But he was ready to fall for it. At this point nothing really threatened him anymore.

"You’re going to say that much and stop? How about we start this deal by actually going straight to the freaking point."

Reis spread a grin.

"Ah, don’t be so annoying, I just wanted to see if you’re with me."

He spoke with his hands moving.

"You see, becoming a Zenith of humanity you see, means ruling over the entirety of humanity. We don’t know what passes for the entirety as far as we have discovered, but my father fairly seems to be convinced that it has to do with your perception as entirety. Becoming a Zenith is more about self saturation. Strange, isn’t it?"

His grin grew wider.

"Want me to tell you something even stranger?"

The air settled in a tense silence.

Then his cold voice came.

"No two Zeniths can exist at the same time."

Northern’s brows furrowed slightly.

"Strange, isn’t it? It’s like the world is trying to mock us. The good thing is, unknown ranks exist beyond Zenith, many within this world don’t know about this, in fact, I suspect that most of the inhabitants of the Underworld are either Luminaries, Transcendents or Zenith. Perhaps stuck between Zeniths and Origins."

He thought about his words carefully before adding firmly.

"Yea, the weakest are Luminaries."

He fixed a stern gaze on Northern and gave him a long look.

"You know what that means, brother? It means that if father, the strongest being in our world today should go to the Underworld, he would not survive. He cannot survive an encounter with an Origin."

Northern scoffed.

"I guess your father still has ways to go before catching up to me."

Reis laughed shortly, looking at Northern with amusement.

"See, see, I know where that arrogance is coming from. I heard all about it, you defeated Koll and then also defeated Kryos, that’s a kind of big deal as far as big deals go... that is."

Northern grimaced as he watched the impassive look that settled on Prince Reis.

"It’s rather mid. Kryos was a fool, a strong fool no less, but he ran away with a stupid excuse, willing to be a scapegoat, to consume all of humanity and then have a chance at facing his antagonists. Such a man is cowardly in nature, the easiest of people to defeat are cowards, Northern, don’t let it get to your head."

Northern lowered his head, and gritted his teeth harshly within a preposterous smile.

"Should I drop him on you and see how well you fare yourself? I’m sure it’ll be interesting, no?"

Prince Reis chuckled.

"Don’t we have important matters than that? You want to know who is after your life, and I... I want you to help me kill father."

Northern raised a brow.

"What?"

Prince Reis sighed and sat back.

"You see brother, I’ve been trying to become a Transcendent for a long time now."
