Chapter 745: Armies Collide Part VIII
Chapter 745: Armies Collide Part VIII
Mira opened another portal directly in front of a wind-affinity dragon, her body already in motion as she emerged.
Dark fire erupted from her palms in a controlled stream rather than explosive bursts, a torrent of black flame that consumed light itself, leaving only darkness in its wake, burning with such intensity that it seemed to devour the very concept of illumination.
The dragon turned to flee, its wind-affinity allowing it to generate acceleration that should have carried it to safety.
The speed it achieved was extraordinary, a velocity that would have allowed escape from most opponents. But another portal opened in its path, existing directly in the line of flight, and Mira was there waiting.
Her fist moved with grace, an attack delivered with perfect timing and precise targeting. This time, the Supernova Palm connected with the dragon’s spine, striking at the exact location where maximum damage could be achieved with minimal effort.
The necrosis spread with terrifying efficiency, moving outward from the impact point and consuming the dragon’s nervous system.
The dragon’s ability to move was eliminated in the same moment that its body began to fail. It dropped from the sky like a stone, its consciousness still active but trapped in a body that could no longer respond to commands or move.
Portal after portal opened across the battlefield in rapid succession. Each one disgorged either Mira or a minotaur, and each appearance resulted in instantaneous devastation that was methodical and precise rather than chaotic or wild.
The Herald’s assembled force, which had numbered in the thousands just moments before, began to collapse under the coordinated assault with the inevitability of a structure designed to fail in exactly this manner.
Mira stood in the center of a clearing created by the devastation, her breathing controlled and even despite the exertion.
Her dark fire had consumed dozens of dragons in the span of minutes. Her Supernova Palm had spread necrosis among creatures that should have been able to resist conventional attacks. She had transformed the battlefield into a graveyard.
A wind-affinity dragon attempted to approach her position, its wings beating frantically in an attempt to create distance while simultaneously maintaining offensive positioning.
Mira’s eyes tracked its movement with absolute precision. She moved without haste and the calm certainty of someone executing a predetermined pattern.
A portal directly in front of the dragon, and she stepped through.
The dragon’s eyes widened as it registered her appearance, registered the fact that she had somehow moved from one location to another instantly.
Its mouth opened to roar a warning to the remaining dragons that this creature was not something that could be defeated through conventional means.
Mira’s fist connected with its jaw.
The punch was not delivered with maximum force. It was delivered with controlled precision, with the intention of causing maximum psychological damage combined with physical devastation.
The dragon’s jaw shattered. Teeth scattered through the air like rain. Blood poured from the creature’s mouth in a torrent that painted the ground beneath it.
The dragon crashed, its body unable to maintain flight. It struck the barren wasteland hard enough to create a secondary crater, adding to the landscape of devastation that was accumulating across the battlefield.
Mira turned toward Sapphira, her expression utterly devoid of emotion. Her face was blank, her eyes empty of anything resembling feeling or doubt.
She looked like something that had been carved from stone and given the barest animation necessary to function.
“It is finished,” Mira said, her voice carrying a monotone quality that made the statement transcend words and become a simple fact being stated. “The Herald has lost. Your forces have fallen. Resistance is no longer a viable option for you or for any creature remaining on this battlefield. You will surrender, or you will die. These are your only options.”
Sapphira’s chest tightened as she processed the words. Her eyes darted across the battlefield, taking in the reality of the carnage that surrounded her.
Thousands of dragons. Reduced to corpses in the span of minutes, killed by infiltrators working in perfect coordination.
But then something changed in the pattern of destruction.
A roar erupted from within the draconic formations, a sound that contained something beyond normal draconic communication.
It was a command delivered with absolute authority, a summons that cut through the chaos of combat and seemed to reach into the very essence of every dragon hearing it. The sound resonated through bone and blood, a clarion call that transcended normal auditory perception.
The roar came from dragons that had been hiding in plain sight within the formations.
They emerged now, their true allegiance revealed as they turned on their erstwhile allies with devastating efficiency, a plan clearly prepared for this exact moment.
The fire-affinity dragons breathed torrents of flame that incinerated their neighbors in seconds, the heat so intense that it melted scales and vaporized internal organs.
The earth-affinity dragons erupted from the ground in sudden ambushes, their massive bodies crushing other dragons beneath them with impacts that liquefied everything within the blast radius.
The wind-affinity dragons created vortices of cutting force that moved through the assembled army with predatory intent, their blades of pressurized air tearing through scaled flesh as if it were parchment.
The water-affinity dragons created pressure spikes so intense that they liquefied organs and turned bone to powder, leaving nothing but empty husks of creatures that had moments before possessed full vitality.
The light-affinity dragons generated focused beams of intense luminescence that burned through both flesh and bone simultaneously, leaving trails of cauterized devastation across the landscape.
The dark-affinity dragons conjured shadow constructs that materialized from nothing and tore creatures apart with inhuman violence, their manifestations moving with speeds that defied conventional physics.
Jack’s bound dragons, 713 of them operating in perfect synchronization as though they were extensions of a single consciousness, had transformed the battlefield into a slaughterhouse of exponential destruction.
Sapphira’s blue eyes widened as she watched creatures that had been fighting alongside her moments before suddenly turn predatory.
The comprehension crashed through her consciousness like a guillotine brought down on her head. She had been fighting a war that was already lost. The enemy had infiltrated her ranks at every level. The very creatures she had been coordinating with had been working against her the entire time.
Her talons clenched against the stone beneath her feet, the claws pressing so hard that the rock cracked and splintered.
Her breathing became shallow and rapid, the intake of air accelerating as her body recognized absolute defeat.
She turned her head toward the Herald.
The Herald was no longer advancing toward Jack. The Herald was no longer positioning for tactical advantage or attempting to overwhelm the Soul Warden through force of numbers.
The Herald was on its knees, its massive frame forced into a position of supplication by chains forged from red energy that pierced its body with such constriction that blood was beginning to seep from beneath the restraints.
The chains pulled taut with absolute rigidity, anchoring the Herald in place, preventing any movement or escape. The creature intended to be unstoppable was now restrained like a dog on a leash, its will entirely subsumed by another’s dominion.
