Chapter 2070: Dissing Lin Yi

Han Zhongyu’s expression froze, his facial muscles twitching in an almost comical way as he processed the shocking news.

Instinctively, he turned to Liu Chunjiang.

He was in charge of this operation and had assured him.

Ling Han would be the team leader.

But now, with the position unexpectedly given to Lin Yi, Han Zhongyu found this hard to accept.

Liu Chunjiang simply shook his head, indicating that he had no idea what had happened.

The people from Songjiang Sub-bureau were equally stunned.

They had been led to believe by Han Zhongyu that Ling Han was a shoo-in for the team leader position.

The fact that it had been awarded to Lin Yi, a newcomer from Xinsan precinct, left them in disbelief.

Even the members of Xinsan precinct were taken aback.

By all expectations, the leader should have been either Li Xianghui or Ling Han.

They both held captain positions within their respective precincts.

No one thought that the role would go to Lin Yi.

Lin Yi subtly glanced at Liang Ruoxu.

It was clear as day that she was behind this decision—there was no way Chen Bingqiang would have made such a call without her approval.

“Officer Lin, as the team leader for this operation, would you care to share your thoughts?” Liang Ruoxu asked in a deliberately neutral tone.

“Um…”

Caught off guard, Lin Yi reluctantly stood up, realizing that Liang Ruoxu was intentionally putting him on the spot. With no other choice, he forced himself to give a brief speech.

“I don’t have much to say. We’ll catch the target, so rest assured, leaders.”

He kept it short, then quickly sat back down.

The room filled with a mixture of reactions, each person interpreting his brief remarks in their own way.

“Alright, that’s all for today. Let’s all work with Team Leader Lin to organize the arrest operation. The meeting is adjourned.”

After the meeting, everyone began to leave, though the members of Songjiang precinct were clearly displeased.

Their eyes filled with hostility as they looked at Lin Yi.

However, they knew better than to openly question a decision made by Chen Bingqiang and silently departed.

Li Xianghui patted Lin Yi on the shoulder with a grin.

“Looks like you’ve made it big this time. Now I’m supposed to take orders from you!”

“Come on, Brother Li, don’t tease me.”

“I’m not kidding,” Li Xianghui chuckled.

“Chen Bingqiang probably chose you because of your role in capturing Bai Yongshou. This is a big opportunity, so make sure you give it your best shot.”

“I will.”

Lin Yi responded simply, then added,

“You guys head back first. I have something else to take care of and will join you later at the precinct.”

“Alright, but don’t take too long. We have a lot to get done, so stay focused.”

“Got it.”

As the others left, Lin Yi quietly made his way to the parking lot and got into Liang Ruoxu’s Audi A6.

“Lin Yi, I’m going to strangle you!”

Liang Ruoxu exclaimed the moment he sat down, pinching his side hard.

“You became a police officer and didn’t even tell me,” she said, glaring at him.

“I didn’t want to worry you,” Lin Yi replied, dodging her pinch.

“How long has it been?”

“A few months, but I don’t remember the exact date.”

“I should really strangle you!”

Liang Ruoxu scolded, giving him a fierce look like an angry tigress.

“It’s not that big of a deal. If I had done anything else, I wouldn’t have kept it from you. I just didn’t want you to treat me differently.”

“This is the first and last time you’ll keep something like this from me. If it happens again, you’ll be sorry,” Liang Ruoxu warned.

“Don’t worry. I’ll tell you everything from now on.”

“That’s more like it,” Liang Ruoxu said.

“I’m hungry. Take me out for lunch.”

“Sure thing.”

They found a northeastern Huaxian restaurant and had lunch together before parting ways.

Over the next three days, Lin Yi managed to get some real work done, spending most of his time in meetings.

Though he found them largely pointless, he knew that as team leader, he had to take things seriously.

For the most part, Li Xianghui did the talking since Lin Yi had no concrete plan.

However, with members of the Songjiang precinct present, they had to put on a show, and Li Xianghui took care of that.

By the third day, everything was set. The teams from Xinsan and Songjiang precincts, totaling twenty people, embarked on their journey to Yanjing.

That evening, upon their arrival in Yanjing, they were greeted by a man and a woman from the Yanjing Police Department.

The man was named Hao Songbai and the lady was named Zhang Yuling, and they were both in their thirties.

They would be assisting Lin Yi and his team in the operation.

“Little Han, you’re here!”

Seeing several people coming out of the airport, the two immediately went to greet them.

Because they knew Zhang Yuling and Ling Han, they walked up to her immediately.

“Our flight was delayed. Sorry to keep you waiting,” Ling Han said with a smile.

“No worries. We’re here to pick you up, so early or late, it doesn’t matter.” Zhang Yuling replied.

Meanwhile, Hao Songbai walked up to Lin Yi and extended his hand.

“Team Leader Lin, welcome to Yanjing. Looking forward to working with you.”

“Thank you. I appreciate it.”

“No need to mention it. We’re all in this together.”

Hao Songbai said warmly. “We’ve arranged accommodations for you. Let’s grab some dinner first, and we can discuss the details over the meal.”

“Sounds good.”

They all got into their vehicles and headed to the guesthouse arranged by the Yanjing Police Department.

“Little Han, what’s the deal with this Team Leader Lin? How did he end up leading the operation instead of you?”

Zhang Yuling asked on the way.

“He got the position because of his role in a previous operation,” Ling Han replied nonchalantly.

“One successful operation, and he gets to lead? Your superiors are a bit hasty, don’t you think?” Zhang Yuling joked.

“But I have to say, he’s really handsome. Even someone like me, who doesn’t care about looks, wouldn’t mind a second glance.”

“What’s the point of being handsome? It doesn’t put food on the table,” Ling Han retorted.

“And he doesn’t seem very serious about his work,” Zhao Su, who was also in the car, chimed in.

“How so?”

“He doesn’t take the operation seriously at all. Every time we have a meeting, he jokes around. I’m really worried he might botch the whole thing.”

“Come on, no one would joke around about something this important.”

“Exactly,” Zhao Su agreed.

“But every time we meet, he acts like it’s no big deal, saying we’ll definitely catch the target. I have no idea where his confidence comes from.”

“If that’s the case, then he really does seem a bit irresponsible. I just hope his attitude doesn’t jeopardize the mission.”
