Chapter 2866: Investigation Results
Chapter 2866: Chapter 2866: Investigation Results
"But the problem is, even if you give them the ore, they wouldn’t want it," Lin Yi said:
"My dad told me before, organizations like theirs have no research capabilities. Even if they get something, they would choose to cooperate with some powerful countries or research institutes, so other organizations probably wouldn’t do such a thing. Offending the Central Guards Brigade isn’t worth it."
After a pause, Lin Yi continued:
"But the Gongyuan Association and Mammon are different. They have massive funding and research equipment, with a research system of their own. They don’t need to rely on any organization or force; they can conduct independent research and development. So, the ore we brought back from the island has immense allure to them. It’s not surprising they would do something like this."
Hearing Lin Yi’s analysis, Ning Che contemplated for a while.
Lin Yi’s analysis indeed made sense.
"Considering these reasons, I think the likelihood of it being the Gongyuan Association is quite high."
"Tell me your thoughts."
"Based on your report, there are four other participants in this affair besides us: the Storm Team, Gongyuan Association, Skull Squad, and Special Service Team Three. Although Tiger Group 707 also got involved, they only clashed with you and probably didn’t know about the ore."
"So, the ones who know about this are just these few organizations. Even if the secret gets out, it couldn’t have reached Mammon’s ears in just a month’s time."
"Although their intelligence capabilities are formidable, it’s unlikely they could discover such things in such a short period and then take action against the Central Guards Brigade. The timeline is too tight."
After listening to Ning Che’s analysis, Lin Yi pondered silently for a while.
"I understand what you mean. The Gongyuan Association is the most likely suspect in this matter," Lin Yi said:
"Moreover, what we did before proves the importance of that piece of ore. Now the Storm people are still in our hands. It’s only logical for them to stir up trouble at this time."
"So we should focus our investigation on the Gongyuan Association," Ning Che said:
"But the problem is that no matter who’s behind this, catching the mastermind is extremely challenging."
Lin Yi squinted, exuding a murderous aura.
"Even if it’s difficult, we must do it. If they dare to cause trouble openly here, we can’t give them any chance!"
"What do you plan to do next?" Ning Che asked:
"Are you really going to let them investigate this matter?"
"I originally didn’t intend to, but since they came, and Elder Liang sent them, it would be disrespectful to handle everything ourselves," Lin Yi said:
"Besides, just reviewing surveillance footage shouldn’t cause any issues given their capabilities."
"But will this approach work?"
"It should. No crime is perfect in this world. Where there’s a person, there’s evidence. If they did it, there will be clues left behind."
"Are you so sure about that? Their counter-surveillance skills are world-class."
"Even if they’re at a cosmic level," Lin Yi said:
"My initial assumption was that after we got the ore and captured Storm and Special Service Team Three, the Gongyuan Association would act on the island to save face and try to intimidate us into handing over the ore."
"But it’s been so long, and there’s been no movement from them. They must be preparing for this matter."
"If your assumption is correct, they might have been preparing as soon as we got the ore."
"Exactly, so I guess some of their people might have arrived here early and staked out places Brother Chen frequently visited. Otherwise, even if an immortal came, they couldn’t have taken him so cleanly."
"The base side can’t be overlooked. They’ll likely stake it out as well," Ning Che said.
"We can handle the base investigations."
"But one thing I’ve long been puzzled by is the somewhat overly close connection between Gongyuan Association and Storm."
"I noticed it too. There were signs since Gerard."
Ning Che said:
"I’ll bring it up with Boss Liu, see what he thinks."
Lin Yi nodded, believing it’s better to be cautious about such sensitive matters.
After their meal, the two returned to the brigade to brief Liang Xianghe and Liu Hong on the key points of the situation.
"Proceed with the investigation in the direction you suggested. I’ve already notified air, rail, and sea transport sectors. If necessary, they’ll fully cooperate," Liang Xianghe said.
"Understood."
After addressing the matter, Liang Xianghe and Liu Hong left, leaving the rest of the investigation to Lin Yi and Ning Che.
"If only Yuluo were here, this is her specialty."
"Don’t think about her now. Let’s focus on the task at hand; Brother Chen’s situation is still uncertain."
"Alright."
Afterward, the two scoured surveillance footage from the vicinity of the base over nearly a month’s period, working late into the night, yet they found no useful leads.
"Just as I expected; even with several more guts, they wouldn’t dare stake out the base," Ning Che remarked.
"It only means they kept away from the base’s surveillance but doesn’t prove they didn’t come."
"Within 200 meters of the base, surveillance is operational. If they move beyond this range, there’s little point in staking out."
"So I focused on the school and his home," Lin Yi checked the time, "We’ll likely have results by tomorrow. Let’s wait a bit longer."
"And if there aren’t any?"
"Then it’s time we had a talk with them. The efficiency is too low," Lin Yi chuckled.
Ning Che turned halfway around, resting her chin on one hand, smiling at Lin Yi:
"Now that the serious tasks are done, shouldn’t we handle some personal matters?"
"What personal matters?"
"Me."
...
The next morning, around ten, Lin Yi was woken by the phone ringing but rolled over and fell back asleep.
"Hello..."
Ning Che groggily got up to answer the phone.
"This is Li Zheng. The surveillance analysis results are out. We identified two suspicious vehicles. We’d like to meet with you to discuss this."
"Alright, where are you?"
"We’re at the bureau."
"We’re heading over now."
"Okay, call us when you get here."
Ending the call, Ning Che woke Lin Yi up.
"Get up quickly; the surveillance investigation has yielded results. We’ll have to skip the morning exercise."
Hearing the news, Lin Yi sat up in bed immediately.
"We’ll head over now."
The two hurriedly got up, skipping not only morning exercise but also their morning wash, heading straight to the police station.
