Chapter 3951: Chapter 3939: This Person Is Terrifying
"If they win, can we give them a day off?" Mo Hongshan looked at Feng Chunxing and said.
"No problem."
A group of people came to the training base, which was built to resemble an abandoned building. The bullets had all been replaced with blanks, and the so‑called hostages were just mannequins.
"Comrade Journalist, what weapon do you need?" Feng Chunxing asked.
"I don’t need anything."
"Huh? You sure? This isn’t something to joke about."
"Yeah."
Answering with a sound, Lin Yi walked into the training base, but was stopped by Feng Chunxing.
"Hold on, you haven’t put on your gear yet."
"No need to make it that troublesome, it’s not like we’re using real blades and live rounds."
The training base had three floors. The first floor was shabby and broken, cluttered with all kinds of stuff, reproducing the real condition of an abandoned residence.
Directly ahead was the staircase leading to the second floor, but the whole first floor was deathly quiet, not the slightest movement.
Lin Yi could guess that at the corner between the first and second floors there had to be several people waiting for him. The moment he showed his head he’d be hit by concentrated fire, and then he’d be on the back foot.
He stopped, looked toward the window on the right, then picked up a stone. Accelerating, he moved to the window, stepped on the lower ledge, and calculated the distance to the second‑floor window. With his jumping ability, it wasn’t much of a problem.
But Lin Yi didn’t move immediately. Instead, he tossed the pebble into the first‑floor hallway.
Just as he expected, the sudden noise drew more than ten gunshots.
Using this opportunity, Lin Yi pushed off hard and leapt upward, grabbing the lower edge of the second‑floor window with both hands. His core tightened, his body snapped up, and he smoothly climbed into the second floor.
Lin Yi slowed his steps, keeping the noise to a minimum, and quietly walked up behind one man, clamping a hand over his mouth.
The man’s expression turned to panic; he hadn’t expected Lin Yi to appear from behind him.
In his mind, this was completely impossible.
Lin Yi made a shushing gesture, which also meant he was "killed."
Then Lin Yi rushed at the next person, silently taking out both men guarding the second floor.
That done, Lin Yi looked toward the staircase to the third floor.
There were still four people upstairs. Not a big problem.
The two sitting on the floor said nothing. They watched Lin Yi’s back and sank into thought.
They hadn’t done a thing and had been taken out without a sound. It was downright humiliating.
At the same time it proved this man was stronger than they’d imagined.
But the question was, how could someone like this be a Journalist?
Lin Yi picked up a gun from the floor and fired a few shots at the landing between the first and second floors.
The two who’d been taken down by Lin Yi didn’t understand what he meant at first, but could only watch, unable to ask.
After about half a minute, Lin Yi fired two shots toward the window on the left, then at the window on the right...
This left the two even more confused; this kind of operation was way outside the norm.
They had absolutely no idea what Lin Yi was up to.
After several such moves, Lin Yi tossed the gun aside and patted one of them on the shoulder.
"Do me a favor and be a hostage. Come upstairs with me for a walk."
The man couldn’t speak, and could only cooperate with Lin Yi, trailing along step for step as they headed to the third floor.
At that moment on the third floor, Ma Tiezhu and three others were guarding a mannequin.
Ma Tiezhu and one other man were watching the staircase entrance, while the other two watched the windows on both sides.
"You all heard those gunshots just now," team leader Zhao Dongdong said. "He should have tried to push in but got stopped."
"There were three shots, and the sounds weren’t quite the same. They should’ve come from the stairway and the two side windows. That is to say, he tried to come up from three directions but was blocked." Ma Tiezhu said.
"It’s already been five minutes. I’m guessing he still hasn’t made it to the second floor. Wanting to come up and rescue the hostage within ten minutes is nothing but daydreaming." Zhao Dongdong said with a smile.
"I don’t think we need to be this tense. Old Zhang and Old Wang alone can hold him off. Once ten minutes are up, we get our day off."
Everyone laughed, already thinking about what they’d do with their leave tomorrow.
"But seriously, judging him like this is really unfair. He doesn’t even have a weapon on him. There’s no way he can rescue the hostage." Zhao Dongdong said.
"True, but he really is impressive. In our brigade you probably won’t find anyone stronger than him." Ma Tiezhu said.
"Which is why I’m curious—how does a guy like that end up as a Journalist? It makes no sense."
"Could it be he got injured and had to leave the service?" Ma Tiezhu said.
"Injured and still this fierce? What would he be like uninjured? With the skills he’s showing now, he’s fully capable of staying. It doesn’t really add up that he’d retire."
Zhao Dongdong’s analysis was the same question the others had. For the moment they couldn’t figure it out.
Bang bang!
Just then, gunshots rang out, and colorful smoke began pouring from Zhao Dongdong and Ma Tiezhu’s bodies, which meant the two of them were "dead."
Seeing the two hit, the other two reacted instantly, raising their guns to aim at the stairway entrance, only to find their own teammate appearing in front of them. As they froze for a heartbeat, their rhythm slipped.
And right then gunshots sounded again, smoke burst from their bodies as well, and Lin Yi walked out from behind them.
"Not bad. Took seven minutes in total."
Looking at the smoke curling off their bodies, the four were still completely dumbfounded. They couldn’t process what had happened; it felt like they were dreaming.
"It’s over. Let’s head downstairs."
Handing the gun back, Lin Yi was the first to walk down.
Zhao Dongdong and the other three exchanged glances, then all turned to look at Zhang Zhengcai.
"How’d he get up here? You didn’t stop him?"
"He came up from the side window. Really fast. Old Wang and I were out before we even processed what was going on."
"Didn’t you say you’d blocked him? How could this happen?"
"What blocking? After the two of us were out, he fired those shots himself to create a false impression for you." Zhang Zhengcai said:
"And we’d already come up a while ago. Everything you said upstairs, he heard. He just waited till you relaxed and hit you with a surprise attack. If you’d stayed on edge, this probably wouldn’t have happened."
Hearing that, the four of them were dumbstruck. They hadn’t thought it could be played like this.
"He’s got us figured out inside and out. This guy is terrifying. We’re no match for him at all."
"Enough, drop it. Get ready to go back and get chewed out."
Following Lin Yi’s steps, the few of them slouched as they walked out.
Outside the training base, seeing Lin Yi come out safe and sound, Feng Chunxing said with a smile:
"Looks like he got stopped outside and never made it in. It’s already been eight minutes. Rescuing the hostage within ten minutes should be impossible now."
